When Im traveling down lifes highway on a dark and stormy night, I dont want to worry about if my radio will work or not. I chose this radio because I wanted a cheaper option that would be reliable and last for years. So far, after about a year of use -- its still working great! Uniden has always been a great brand in the CB community, with performance probably a tad bit higher than the Cobras, etc. Although this model DOES NOT have an SWF meter, its small size was my main requirement -- so I used a portable SWF meter (also purchased from Amazon) to tune the radio and my Firestik antenna. No issues at all, and the truckers tell me they can hear me loud and clear when Im traveling down lifes highway!

Hi I recently purchased for 4 Uniden 510XL CB radios for our 4WD Off-road Club as prizes for our summer raffle. My decision was based on my 4 year personal experience of owning a Pro510XL in my Jeep on Steroids and using it under real world off-road field conditions with no problems what so ever. My fellow club members also always comment how clear my radio transmissions sound to them. FYI I use a tuneable 1/4 wavelength antenna (i.e. firestick). We use CB radio to coomunicate between our vehicles while on the trail, often out of sight of each other and rely on them for safety reasons and emergency communication. With 55+ CB radio equipped off-road vehicles I can unequivocally say that Cobra radios are the worst and often dont last two years. We have about 11 vehicles equipped with various models of Uniden CB radios and I have never heard anyone complaining about theirs. They seem to work all of the time. In my opinion you cant go wrong with a Uniden 510ProXL.Its fool proof and easy to operate without taking your eyes off the trail. Its small size makes it easy to install. I also see that the Radioshack CBs seem to work ok too. Deadbear

I needed a CB radio in my work truck for yard communication, so I went with this. Ive been a truck driver for 24 years, so of course I have a big radio that has been modded, but those require fiddling to get them to work correctly. Now that Im doing local work, I just dont have time to mess around with it. This radio, with an 18 foot coax cable, and a basic Francis fiberglass whip antenna is simple, cheap, and works every time. No hassle at all.

Cheap, good quality, and works flawlessly. If you do some weekend offroading, then this is plenty for what youll need it for. There isnt a significant amount of range with this radio, but for the price you really cannot beat the quality that you get. I would highly recommend this product (and have to other fellow Jeep drivers already).

Don’t judge a radio by its size. This one works just as well as my buddies Cobra. Paired with a good tuned antenna, this radio will get the job done.

I hate to write a bed review, but when the thing doesnt work right out of the box, what can I do. The 520 arrived with a bad mic. As soon as I plugged it in, the transmit light came on. I could wiggle the cable going into the mic and the light would go on and off. Now I have to box it up, take it to the post office and wait on a replacement. You would think Uniden would at least do a simple test on these radios before they send them out. I happened to have an old mic from a 510 and the radio worked fine with it. If the repair/warranty place in Texas send me a new (WORKING) mic in a timely manner, I will change my rating from one star.
