Great VHS ripping, great editing options, great dvd burning tools. Reviews that reflect poor quality reflect the quality and condition that the VHS tapes and VHS players are in. I tried three VHS players from Goodwill stores and the third one played the best. TIP: shop Goodwill and look for DVD/VHS combo players. These are the most recently produced VHS players and worked the best for me.

At first I gave this product a very bad review that it didnt deserve. I was frustrated because I couldnt get the software to load, but after disabling my antivirus software it loaded with out any difficulty. So you might keep this in mind. After that it works fine.

This met a need for a fraction of the price sending it out to a service for conversion would have. The bad thing is you HAVE to have a VHS machine to convert VHS movies (this is a duh for many of you, but I had no idea how this worked). My in-laws asked me to convert their VHS movies of my husband and his brother to DVD. We borrowed his grandmothers VHS machine. This kit consists of two main things: a conversion box and software. The conversion box connects to your line out on your VHS machine and there is a USB cable that goes from the box to your laptop or computer. The software installed easily. I like that you can see the movie playing on a little box in the software. I thought I would just be licking my finger and sticking it in the air to see when I thought it was time to stop the VHS so this is really handy. The quality of the video is just OK and be careful about the volume you choose. I really wish I had just kept it at 0. I put it to 1 and I think it created some white noise that is minorly annoying. Not sure if that noise was already on the VHS, though, honestly. My father in law had a movie he was in as an extra and wanted me to make a DVD of the VHS he taped from TV. The sound didnt have the white noise which makes me think maybe it was just the amateur video of my husbands Eagle Court of Honor that caused it. At any rate, the quality is ok and good enough for preserving memories. Not HD by any stretch, but our kids can now see daddy with a full head of hair and can hear him. Its pretty neat for me as I had never seen any videos of my husband that young. Mission accomplished. I only took off a star because the quality is just so-so, but that isnt fair since VHS quality is just so-so. I would rate this a 4.5. We used this on our laptop running Windows 7 with no issues. I am not even close to an A/V professional. I am a homeschooling mom with an engineering degree, but I dont think that degree gave me any leg up on anyone else in hooking this thing up. I am glad we bought it. I guess the only bad thing is you pay $60 and then copy your 5 DVDs from VHS and just have this useless device and software :). But, $60 is much cheaper than the quote I got from one of those services!

While it functions, this is impressive software with several clever features that make converting old VHS or 8mm tapes to DVD format. But users should be patient, as the program will lock up without warning during the capture phase and youll have to close it out with task manager and start over again. The phone-access customer support staff were friendly and offered suggestions to fix the glitch, but to no avail. Now out $60, Ill be looking for other software options as I dont have time to attempt capturing videos 2 or 3 times.

Pretty easy set up and use for a novice. Exactly what I was looking for. I was able to set it up and capture a video the I got it in the mail. I bought this to digitize a fairly large collection of home footage that has varying quality (some grainier, darker, lighter, etc.). Ive had it for about a month now and captured approx. 6 hrs worth of footage. I did end up scraping about 4 hrs worth because Im still playing around with the settings. Thats more my bad though, I should have waited until I had the software figured out. The only real problems Ive had thus far was shipping from the seller, an operator error on my part, and time to capture the footage.

Easy to use. Good transfer. Sometimes takes long time 6-10 hrs to save edit if hr or longer video.

Although it shows and input for DVD Player, in dubbing DVDs there is dropout of the sound occasionally. I talked to their tech and he told me it has problems dubbing digital media. Otherwise AOK.

I bought this to replace a VCR/DVD combo recorder that I bought ten years ago because the VCR does no longer work. The VCR/DVD combo worked well and made good copies of my family tapes before the VCR died. I decided to try this Vidbox because it was 1/4 the cost of a VCR/DVD combo recorder. This Vidbox was easy to set up, simple software, and easy to record. The problem I have with it is that the quality of the video is poor. I tried 3 different VCRs and really good quality RCA cables with no better results. Pixels in the video as well as no video at times. It has a setting to correct this problem, however I could not tell any difference with it on or off. It might convert better if you are trying to copy store bought videos. That was not my reason for purchasing this. I have personal videos that I wanted to preserve and it just did not cut the mustard.

Works pretty well. Since you have to transfer the tapes in real-time, its nice to be able to set a record timer on the software and walk away from the PC. Makes transferring several tapes pretty easy. DVD authoring feature is pretty good, but its not for noobs. Youll turn several DVD-Rs into coasters and frisbees before you finally get the hang of it.

We love this product. We had dozens of cassette recordings, years of family stuff, all had been loaded in a dusty cardboard box... for who ever looks at cassettes anymore??? This product saved our family memories, converted them to DVD, where we now burn copies onto DVDs and share those family adventures with our grown kids. Example, our kids were little at their ballgames or birthday parties or talent shows or... and we got them on those old cassette videos. Problem is though we taped a lot of the game/party... way too much. Using this product, we found it easy to clip our old videos, cutting out the parts that no one will ever want to watch, then we merged our clips into a smooth DVD file, titling and dating each one simply by naming each file uniquely. This project is time consuming, dont think this job is going to be done in one day or two shifts. If you have a 45 minute VHS cassette, itll take 45 minutes to convert it to DVD, then, depending on how many clips you cut, add another 45 minutes to realizing your finished DVD product. The few questions I had were quickly answered when I called Honestech for help. Wife, kids and I love it.
