Greater than one weekI use this fan as a sort of economizer to cool during sping/fall months when outside air is low enough. I have attached FEIT smart plug and use automation to kill power when outside air rises above 75 F. It would be nice if settings were kept when power is killed and fan could return on, even better would be built in app / schedule functionality like a smart thermostat that could be programmed to turn off / on. Would be nice if fan sealed better when turned off. Outside air gets a little cool and even off with damper closed, it is leaking through. Appearance is good. Also some sort of insulated cover would be great, so fan doesnt have to be removed for winter / summer

> 3 dayI really like the slim design. But I was disappointed with how little air this fan moves compared to the more typical (and uglier) window units with two round fans—even at the max speed setting (4). I use it at night to cool down the room when the outside temperature drops, but its not working very well ... not surprising given how little air it pushes. It is also louder than I was expecting, with a bit of a clicking/whirring sound—even at the lowest speed setting (1). Once again, louder and more annoying than the white noise from the typical 2-round fan models. In summary: + great looks/design - does not move much air, not great for cooling even a small room - noisier than traditional window fans I am quite disappointed because I really wanted to like this product ... perhaps I received a faulty unit.

> 3 daySo this fan is great nothing bad to say about the actual fan. The foam blocks however is a different story. As you can see from other reviews the foam blocks do not create a tight seal on the tops. In fact it probably would but there’s a half inch piece of foam on the fan that’s taller than all the blocks. So my main suggestion would be to remove the thick foam with a thinner piece.

> 3 dayOn really hot days this will push around hot air, and will not cool down the room by itself. However, you can raise your AC by a few degrees to get cool air in and exhaust out hot air. Vice versa on normal and cooler days its a great way to circulate cool air in the room. By no means is it a standalone AC unit, but Vornado is the best in regards to a whole-room breeze and does great at bringing in fresh air. On a few occasions, it made a weird noise high pitched spinning not even a week old but it seems to have stopped. Note that the temperature sensor is also strange. It does not gauge the temperature to your preferred indoor setting. Its basically At what point is the air outside too cold to bring in? It does not try to get the room to the level you specify, and the temperature controls on Amazon are vague in that regard for what it actually did.

Greater than one weekMy number one priority, in purchasing a window fan, was to get something QUIET. I had spent more money than I would have liked purchasing the traditional two fan window units that are so common today. Based on the promise and supporting reviews that they were very quiet fans, I purchased both a popular Bionaire and a Holmes fan. They were ok, but not nearly good enough. I wanted a fan as quiet as my ceiling fan on low and those two weren’t even in the ballpark. So through more searching, I eventually landed on the Vornado Transom. It’s not a traditional fan by any stretch of the imagination, but a few people said it was extremely quiet. Desperate to find something quieter than the others, I placed my bet. This fan is ACTUALLY quiet! On it’s lowest setting, it is a whisper compared to the other two. No, it’s not ceiling fan quiet, but I would compare it to the sound I’d hear coming through the vent when my central air is running. That’s pretty quiet! On high, yes the fan is much more noisy, but it moves a lot more air when on high. To be clear, low speed moves plenty of air, and high speed is not more noisy than the other models on high. Another difference between the Vornado and the other models, is the the fan speeds are SIGNIFICANTLY different. The difference between low and high on the other models is marginal at best. With the Vornado, low is ACTUALLY low… and high is ACTUALLY high. So you can choose between a quiet fan that gives you a nice breeze, or a noisy fan that moves air with quite a bit of force. Again, this unit on high was about as noisy as the other fans on high. On low, there is no contest. Do you get what I’m saying yet? THIS FAN IS VERY QUIET… MUCH quieter than any other window fan I’ve tried. So that’s the big sell for me. Other good features: The temperature selection works well. I set it up for 70 degrees, and it effectively turned on and off as necessary to bring in the cooler outside air. Since I keep the fan on low, I barely noticed when it turned on and off at all. This fan also gives you great privacy because you can’t see through it whether it’s on or off. A couple of not so great things about it... First, the foam blocks are not great. I needed an additional block that was 1/4 inch wide… I either had to try and squish a 1 inch block in that space (nope) or use something else to seal it. Vornado should rethink this strategy or include 1/2 and 1/4 inch blocks too. Considering the high quality construction of the unit, and the steeper price tag, Vornado should come up with something more eloquent. Secondly, the remote isn’t wonderful. You have to aim it DIRECTLY at the unit while you are DIRECTLY in front of it. And the range of the remote seems to be a pitiful 15 feet or so. I don’t know if that’s typical of this unit, but it’s definitely not great. Despite those two shortcomings, I still give the unit 5 stars based on its EXTREMELY LOW noise level given the decent amount of air it moves. If I ever need an additional window fan, this is the one I’ll get.

> 3 day*This is a temporary review that I will update if my opinion changes. This fan is a niche product, let us make this clear. Its a fan designed for semi-permanent (spring/summer) installation into the window of a room that has ventilation issues. In my case, my upstairs bedroom becomes an oven because heat rises and smart thermostats think we all live on the ground floor. I set the fan to exhaust and set the temp to 72 degrees, so when the temp in the room gets above 72 it kicks on pushes the hot air out and draws cool air from the rest of the house. So far this seems to be working well and it was cheaper and more power efficient option than the window AC I was considering for the job. Installation was easy enough with a second set of hands: Install a block on one side, press fan body against said block to compress it, arrange blocks for other side, release fan body, fiddle with blocks to make sure a snug fit, time for a soda pop. The block-spacers make for a snug fit in my windows and they likely have a much higher insulation value that the design alternatives, they look better too. I think I actually spent more time figuring out the remote than I did with the installation into the window. As much as I appreciate recyclable low-waste packaging including a manual or at least a scan code for a .pdf version would have been much appreciated. I googled the manual of course, easily, but I shouldnt have been forced to do so. The noise levels in a real world terms: Low is barely noticeable, Medium is noticeable but you can have a conversation next to it without shouting, High is loud enough that you may want to take a few steps away from it before starting a conversation. In sum, satisfactory for my purposes. Update 1: It is now 77 deg F outside and its habitable upstairs thanks to this fan pulling air up from downstairs. The only tip I have is that youd be best served by putting some type of insulation between the top and bottom window panes, as my fan was blowing hot air back in through the gap. A plastic amazon mailing envelope worked for me but ymmv.

> 3 dayLet me preface this by saying that I have 3 different Vornado fans that I LOVE. And Ive had 2 of them for 3 years and 1 of them for 2 years. This brand is to be trusted — with fans. This product unfortunately missed the mark for me. It is sleek, and the design is beautiful — by far the most beautiful transom fan on the market. However, this product in actual use is just . . . not there. 1) The amount of air it moves is not that much. You can barely feel any air moving unless your hand is within 20 inches or so of the vent. 2) The thermostat is quite useless. This fan was in the window of my bedroom RIGHT by my head. I wanted it in my bedroom, because I like to sleep very cold, and for some reason my apartment TRAPS heat like nowhere Ive ever lived. So one of the first nights I have this transom fan, it was a very cold, and I set it to 60. The room was probably 72-74 or so. Well after a few minutes, it turned off, saying it was 60 in the room. I asked my echo (also in the same room) what the temperature of the room was, and it said it was 71.6 . . . and it felt like it. I knew it wasnt anywhere near 60, but Vornado did. So I had to turn it down to 45 to get it to stay on. So the auto-on and auto-off features are really useless. 3) The lights on the front of the unit do dim as it says they do, except for the power light which is basically a beacon in a very dark room. I found that really annoying. I put a piece of black gaffers tape over it to fix it — still something I dont think I should have had to do. 4) The worst thing about this unit was that after less than a week of use, it began emitting a constant, high-pitched squeal. Even though it wasnt super loud, it was absolutely unbearable being so close to my head at night. Im sure it just needs some grease or WD-40, but I wasnt about to start haphazardly spraying WD-40 around the inside and probably voiding my warranty — also I shouldnt need to do that after a week. Come on, Vornado. So I decided to return the unit because of the noise plus the other minor annoyances. Again — I just want to reiterate that there are no other fans that I recommend more than Vornado! But this particular unit is a miss. Im actually going to spending my long weekend this weekend making my own transom fan using server cooling fans between two pieces of thin plywood — should be nearly silent and move about twice the air on high as the Vornado.

> 3 dayI bought a regular 2 fan window fan last week and didnt like it a ton, so decided to give this one a try. Very happy I did. I have this in a 38 window, but theres enough blocks to go to 42 and have it be secure. What I like: 1. Temperature sensor for the room and the temp you want it to shut off at. 2. Doesnt feel like its on the verge of falling out of the window at all. 3. Didnt see this described on the product description, but one button press and the blades readjust to vent out air instead of draw in. This one is huge for me as turning the whole window unit around every time is a pain in the butt. 4. Its powerful on full blast but it is noisy. Typical of a tower style room fan noise level. 5. It barely vibrates. I have older windows, and the two fan style window fan would cause a glass panel to vibrate and produce a ton of annoying sound. Cons: 1. Not sure what type of window ledge it was designed for to create a perfect seal. Not a huge deal as I can just cut up some black window foam to push in the couple gaps. 2. Remote battery was DOA. Not a huge deal as well as its a common size thats pretty cheap as far as disc batteries go. This is a cool little fan and plan to grab one for another room soon. I have a vornado tower fan in a room for the last year that Ive been very pleased with as well.

> 3 dayI like the way this fan looks in the window. I like that it takes up less space than a typical window fan, by about 50%. Airflow is excellent, reversibility is convenient, and when it’s off, it closes the airflow to reduce draft. And the remote control is a must-have. Slick. The built-in thermostat appears to function well. The fan is not especially quiet. On the lowest setting, it’s loud enough to be distracting while trying to sleep, at ~4-5’ away. More than just “white noise“ but not super loud either. The controls are good, though not as intuitive as they could be. For example: - The up-and-down arrows are on the left and right side of the remote control ring. Placing them at the top and bottom would be more intuitive, particularly while you’re laying in bed in the dark. - Because the controls go into hibernation automatically, the first press of any button just reawakens the controls. So you need to press twice for any function.
