This is half an inch too wide for my windows which I realize is not a flaw exactly but... why? Even 12,000 BTU air conditioners usually top out at 24” wide but this little fan is 26. Many pre-war homes have smaller windows so theyre leaving out a lot of potential customers. I ended up buying the Sharper Image one but their newer model is also 26” so I guess Im out of luck if and when it breaks.

Effective fan even though it is quiet. Remote control takes some getting used to, but its small size is appreciated. Only concern was the quick on/off cycling when the set temperature is reached.

*This is a temporary review that I will update if my opinion changes. This fan is a niche product, let us make this clear. Its a fan designed for semi-permanent (spring/summer) installation into the window of a room that has ventilation issues. In my case, my upstairs bedroom becomes an oven because heat rises and smart thermostats think we all live on the ground floor. I set the fan to exhaust and set the temp to 72 degrees, so when the temp in the room gets above 72 it kicks on pushes the hot air out and draws cool air from the rest of the house. So far this seems to be working well and it was cheaper and more power efficient option than the window AC I was considering for the job. Installation was easy enough with a second set of hands: Install a block on one side, press fan body against said block to compress it, arrange blocks for other side, release fan body, fiddle with blocks to make sure a snug fit, time for a soda pop. The block-spacers make for a snug fit in my windows and they likely have a much higher insulation value that the design alternatives, they look better too. I think I actually spent more time figuring out the remote than I did with the installation into the window. As much as I appreciate recyclable low-waste packaging including a manual or at least a scan code for a .pdf version would have been much appreciated. I googled the manual of course, easily, but I shouldnt have been forced to do so. The noise levels in a real world terms: Low is barely noticeable, Medium is noticeable but you can have a conversation next to it without shouting, High is loud enough that you may want to take a few steps away from it before starting a conversation. In sum, satisfactory for my purposes. Update 1: It is now 77 deg F outside and its habitable upstairs thanks to this fan pulling air up from downstairs. The only tip I have is that youd be best served by putting some type of insulation between the top and bottom window panes, as my fan was blowing hot air back in through the gap. A plastic amazon mailing envelope worked for me but ymmv.

1st off, a warning that this fan is designed for a window with a low lower lip (.25 to .50). I have double hung windows with a 1.25 inside lower lip and I ended up having to build a bracket to properly install the unit. That said, once installed, it works great. Its quiet, even on its highest setting. I installed the unit on window for a combined living room open walk thru to kitchen; 28 from window to end wall of kitchen. At its top setting, I can feel air movement at 20 from the window and was able to lower the temp in the two combined rooms several degrees F° in about 1.5 hrs. The remote is simple and easy to use, but is tiny and could be lost easy; put it somewhere you know you can find it. It was worth the cost and I do recommend it if you need something to vent a full room. Just check your window sills carefully before buying to avoid frustration.

I grabbed this after being interested in the smaller design and good reviews, as my Holmes dual window fan was old and falling apart, literally. However.. I am not that impressed with this. It was a pain to install, and I am waiting for it to eventually fall out of the window.. but DISCLAIMER... I live in a historic building in San Francisco, so I have old windows... is no slot for the fan to fit in., is just the wooden window ledge, and thats it.. drops right down to the exterior concrete ledge, Also, the bottom of the window isnt flat, it is angled for some reason, so it doesnt clamp down. I assume anyone with modern windows wont have an issue at all with this. It is a bit louder than I had expected, especially while on exhaust, it is actually a bit louder than my Holmes dual-window fan, as it makes like a rubbing type of sound when running, though it might go away...it is quiet, but enough to annoy me. I do voice-over and narration, so one of the selling points of this was being able to run it while recording, which I cant do with my current fan. I dont know if it will get picked up or not by my mic yet. The lowest fan speed also seems too strong. However, this is most likely from being used to the dual-fan, but the lowest setting on this fan is equal to the high setting on my holmes, so getting hit with a lot more air than used to.. which I am sure will be great in summer, but right now, I wish I could just turn the speed down a bit more. WHile exhaust is an option, it is a lot louder, and I assume that is from air blowing off the window ledge, as I have very long ledges. The temperature control is very accurate. As far as Alexa, it wouldnt sync via the barcode, had to hold down the power button until the light flashed, then it found it and connected, but since, it just says device unresponsive. I reset the fan (power and fan direction for 6 seconds) and connected it back to Alexa, which worked again, but then it right away went back to device unresponsive...

Huge upgrade over the Holmes window fan. Heres why. 1. Doesnt block the view out the window as much. 2. The noise is much lower than the Holmes. Actually has a pleasant white noise effect. 3. The built-in Alexa feature is incredibly convenient. Love that. Sure it costs more, but you get what you pay for. If you use the fan regularly,it is so worth the price difference. I have had the fan for several months and I dont regret buying it at all. By the way the extended warranty is junk. Bought it for the Holmes utilizing it was ridiculous. This is a quality product. Definitely recommend it.

Wound up giving this to my sister. She says she is very happy with it, especially that it is quiet and has a low profile. It can also used with a screen to keep bugs out; this is a good feature. On the whole we are happy, but do have some complaints. It doesnt isolate the outside air as well as expected and is best removed from the window on cold nights. The foam blocks they include to seal air gaps are barely useable. We received a unit with a nonworking remote, however the manufacturer was great about helping us get a working replacement.

Yes, the motor can run the fan blade in revese, except the unit functions very poorly in reverse. If it were easy to remove the squirrel cage fan blade, flip it left to right & reinstall it; it could provide reverse and function optimally. Except doing this would likely damage the bearings and ruin the quiet opperation. A beutiful fan, but does not function as advertized.

Minor design or manufacturing issue which appears to be somewhat common based on the reviews... I received mine and I thought it was going to be perfect. Typical vertical vinyl window and this would fit perfectly in the opening. Anyway, I got it and turned it on to test before installing. One direction, it worked perfectly. Tried reversing the flow and TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK. This wasnt what I wanted. But because it seemed like the best option based on the window fans I found, I wanted to investigate a bit further. Upon disassembly and inspection, there is a bar (picture #1) on the rotating cage that hits the squirrel cage fan and makes the noise. For mine, it only does it in one direction. So to fix, I did the following: 1. Unplug the unit. Remove the 8 rubber caps and screws from the end caps. Remove the two end caps. 2. Remove the 6 screws on the bottom of the glossy white front panel and gently lift off the panel. 3. Remove the 6 exposed screws at the bottom of the unit and the 6 screws at the top (between the fins) 4. Gently separate the front and back. 5. Find the bar with a screw on both sides, you may need to rotate the fan assembly to bring it into view. 6. That bar is what is hitting, so I added a small washer on both sides to give it a bit more clearance. (Picture #2) 7. Spin the fan to make sure its not hitting. Rotate the assembly and test again. Make sure you dont hear anything hit when spinning the fan by hand or rotating the assembly. 8. Reassemble and it should stop ticking. Power on and test both directions (in and out) Other thoughts: 1. The foam on the bottom was too wide for my window where I wanted to position it with the screen still installed. I sliced it so that it fit the vinyl frame of the window. (Picture #3) That allowed it to fit snugly into the window instead of being raised against it. Also, this bottom foam should extend the full width of the fan, not stopping an inch short of each side. While this wasnt much of an issue after slicing the foam so itd fit into the window, it still leaves a bit of a gap. 2. The foam blocks are not ideal, but adding some double-stick tape between the blocks (once I figured out exactly how many to use) in order to keep them together seemed to help. 3. This doesnt NOT cut off the air when off. On a hot day, youll feel hot air coming in and on a cool day, youll find cool air coming in. I did make an insulation cover that attaches with velcro to help with this issue, but now its starting to sound like I need a new hobby... Anyway, I liked the fan and it works well for me, but they should probably fix their manufacturing issue. The plastic bar tolerance should be improved so you dont have the clicking issue. Mine seemed slightly warped, but if the bar was prone to warping, additional clearance should have been added so it doesnt click during normal usage out of the box. Maybe it was just mine, but I saw this comment in other reviews. With some work, I got it fitting perfectly, but it has to be removed due to air leakage at certain times of the year. Remote was great and everything else seems fine. Understand that there are a limited number of blocks included, so itll only fit windows of a certain width. There is NO screen on it, so I left my screen in, thus the installation issue. I fixed that by cutting the foam at the bottom (Picture #3) so that itd sit in the window without taking out the screen. Good luck! Its been removed for the winter as it just lets in way too much cold air. It may not be as simple as advertised, but its definitely workable if you want to spend the time fitting it and hopefully you dont have the clicking issue I did.
