I’m in an apartment, in a tiny town, with only a window unit in the front room and no way to get air to the back (down a hall) where my bedroom is. It is often much cooler outside than in my apartment, all night. This fan was meant to help me sleep at night, bringing in the cool air when there is zero breeze outside. First night, it was so quiet and the room cooled off so well, I got one of the best nights of rest in over a month. By day 2 it seemed louder, but I thought no way…by day 7 I couldn’t leave it on while I tried to sleep. And now a month later, I can only turn it on in the hours before I go to bed, with the door almost shut because it’s almost louder than i can reasonably put my tv. I am quite disappointed, and grateful for winter(my least favorite time to live in colorado) I’m a student in an intense program, I’m stressed and tired anyways, but this fan caused a couple sleepless nights that I just can’t afford mentally or physically. I’d return if I could, as it is, it’ll go in the trash in 7months when I graduate and go back home.

I had been looking for a replacement for the Lakewood LPRW03 for about 10 years now. Lakewood had been bought out by Honeywell and then the fan was discontinued. The TRANSOM appears to be a modernized model of the LPRW03. The TRANSOM performs very similarly to the LPRW03 as far as noise to air movement ratio. This is very good, being completely below the noise floor of my area at 1, whisper quiet at 2, audible at 3 and somewhat loud at 4. Enough air is moved at speed 2 for me, so this is very appealing. The foam blocks work with my window extremely well. I installed the left foam block first, put the fan in, then slid the right foam block in from above the fan on the right side. The fit was a little on the tight side, but for sealing, thats a good thing. The temperature control leaves a lot to be desired. It is significantly impacted by the outside atmosphere, so you cannot really use it reliably to control the interior temperature. The remote is also oddly short range, which I didnt expect for an IR device. I have to be within about 10 feet for it to work.

I really like this fan overall, but there are a couple of questionable design choices. The Good: - This thing is quiet. Even at the highest setting, it doesnt sounds like a typical fan on high. - Moves a surprising amount of air. Its basically a really long scroll fan. - The fan only moves in one direction. There is a physical diverter that rotates inside to switch between intake and exhaust. The best part is that this diverter closes when you turn the fan off, which somewhat seals off the outdoors. - For a fan, this thing is pretty stylish and low-profile. It doesnt take a lot of vertical space up in your window so a lot of light can still flow through. The Bad: - The foam blocks to seal off the sides are just stupid. I couldnt get them to fit around the fan in my 27 window, which is an exceedingly common window width. I had to buy separate weather stripping to seal it off (pictured in attached photos). I again want to stress that the foam blocks didnt work in my brand new, modern window. - In auto mode (where it blows until you reach a set temperature) the fan tends to cycle on and off a lot, as in every 30 seconds. It seems like this could be easily solved by reprogramming the fan to allow slightly more temperature swing - The thermostat seems somewhat inaccurate, because it senses the temperature in the windowsill and not the room itself. Overall, I still like this fan a lot. If you just want to use it in dumb mode where it blows and blows and blows, its a great fan. If you want to use the Auto feature to try and set an exact temperature in the room, it could be a little better.

Fast delivery, however, it came in damaged packaging. I was concerned with the content but it looked ok. So, I ran a quick test to make sure and it seems no internal damage. Will install it and see if it fits the window using the form blocks provided. Will update the review sometime later.

For starters, I never received the instructions in the box. Although, I think the unit was brand new, and never used. I think it was probably a return, and was being resold as new. Just my thoughts, because of the lack of instructions and the ability to send in a warranty card. I hope this last long time and it remains safe. Also, the remote is not working. How would I ever contact customer service? This bothers me a lot but I love the concept and it is working for me right now. I would like to have a new remote , that works.

This is our second fan purchased. Love to bring the fresh night air in as long as possible and this product does a great job with several settings and a remote.

Contrary to what some reviewers claim, this fan absolutely works with screened windows. It is super easy to install and works well - we have one in our master bedroom and it pulls a nice breeze through. I only wish it offered a higher volume of air (more CFM), and were Alexa-compatible. I see that there was a smart variant of this fan available from Vornado and I hope they bring it back. However it isnt perfect; the power cable comes out of the chassis at the bottom of the unit and interferes with the mounting pad, so you need to resort to crushing the cable. I suspect that after a sufficiently large number of install/removal cycles this does present a risk of short and possible fire hazard. The exit point for the power cord really should be moved completely away from the mounting pad. I am deducting two stars for this because there will inevitably be some person who will not notice this issue and will sever the cord causing a short in their house. This is a design and manufacturing flaw which should by all rights result in a recall of this fan. Since I am aware of the issue and take care to hold the cord out of the way and will drill a new hole and reroute the cord if/when the insulation starts to show signs of fatigue/wear, I am comfortable using the fan, but many people would never even notice the cord is being stressed at the mounting pad on the sash, and run into problems.

Put this fan in our bedroom a week ago and LOVE IT. Whisper quiet on low and moves plenty of air. Thermostat seems to work pretty well. Fan was off on the cold mornings and kicked back on when the outside temps warmed up. Since we have a first floor bedroom we wanted a fan you couldnt see through and this one is perfect. Highly Recommend.

I was afraid of getting this unit and having to return it based on other reviews, but my fears were unfounded. Installation was so smooth, quick and easy. The unit works silently, and uses so little power that I have it running 24 hours a day. Its been raining a lot in CA, but my unit fits behind the screen, and there is no evidence of any water coming in while still running all day and night. The only problem may be that the thermostat does not go below 60 degrees and it has been a lot colder that that, so I just leave it on manual so it runs all the time. I am very pleased and happy with this unit.

This is idiotic. Ive purchased many items that work with alexa or work with google home but they always, ALWAYS have an option to use their own app (iHealths bp app, LG Thinq, etc). So why do I have to use stupid Alexa? Also where the hell is the remote control? Are you seriously not including a remote because Alexa takes care of that instead ? Holy cow what a joke! It seems to work just fine. Doesnt go as far as most Vornado fans (usually like a spotlight or an air cannon), but it s strong enough to pull bathroom, food, and other smells out of the apartment. The foam rubber pieces are a nice change from the usual window fan plastic plates and accordions (which I usually have to modify with cardboard and packing tape anyway). Touch controls are neat looking, but they disappear as soon as youre done with them, and you have to tap them back on, then use them. Why? To save 0.00004 watts of electricity? The whole reason I bought this was to install it at the TOP (not the bottom) of the window, as to pull the bad smells up and away, as well as to avoid pulling the cold air conditioner air right outside seconds after its created. I was HOPING to use some remote software THAT ISNT ALEXA to turn it back on if theres a power failure. However to install this up there, Id have to use alexa, or keep a ladder handy. If I knew the remote was NOT INCLUDED, I would have just bought the regular remote one. If you dont like alexa, DO NOT BUY THIS.

Transom is the result of a complete re-imagining of what a window fan should be. The air chamber abundantly draws fresh air from the outside in — or reverses electronically to exhaust stale air out. Powerful airflow circulation and comfort at half the height of conventional window fans, Transom is easy to install, blends elegantly into the space and preserves your view. Transom seals off windows 26” to 40” wide with the patented Soft-fit System that provides a sleek, satisfying and snug fit from end to end, without having to remove your screen. Transom – a new kind of window fan.
