This fan is very quiet. Probably the quietest fan I have had. The fan is not very powerful, but it is exactly what I was looking for. I wanted a fan that was more on the quiet side that provided sufficient air flow and this does. If you are looking for a fan to blow you away with air, this is not for you.

Purchased this to replace an old Honeywell two fan unit. Pleasantly surprised, moves a decent amount of air and is fairly quiet, the LEDs arent blinding at night and the buttons dont make any stupid beeps. I only wish the width adjustment was better, I liked the expandable accordian type things my old fan had better than the goofy foam blocks this came with.

I bought this about 2 years ago and its still going strong. My upstairs neighbors would always smoke cigarettes, marijuana, and other chemicals that would seep into and stink up my small apartment and make me nauseous. I would try opening all my windows, sealing vents, and running fans, but it never helped. After researching net airflow, it seemed that my apartment always had a negative airflow and was more likey to attract air. I figured that maybe I need a good intake fan to create a positive airflow. I bought this without checking dimensions carefully, but it wedges perfectly in a vertical orientation one of my windows (after modifying the adhesive foam strip location). I know the vertical orientation is supposedly not supported, but all the windows here slide horizontally. After two years, the intake mode is still able to create a strong positive air flow that completely keeps the smelly neighbor fumes out.

This window AC is awesome. It cools without needing to exhaust hot air (dont ask me how). Ive used it in my outdoor patio by placing it on a mini-shelf thats on a wooden fence. The back of the AC was pretty much covered by the fence. Yet, it cooled the area around a table with four chairs. This may not sound like much, but I live in Miami. My patio is 20X40, enclosed by a wooden fence, and a roof I created with 2X4s, a heavy duty black tarp on the outside and silky Bohemian tapestry inside (to cover the wood and tarp). In this area theres a central AC compressor dishing out nothing but heat. So, when I brag about this AC cooling off a 10X10 area, trust me, it means a-lot! I have also placed it in my bedroom on top of a wardrobe unit facing the bed. This has allowed me to run my AC at 75 degrees, whereas it used to be set at 67. It is SUPER quiet and very versatile. It can be placed vertical, which I have also done while working (placing it on the corner of my desk). I purchased a similar model from Sharper Image ($20 cheaper) at the same time to compare them (Sharper Image is, well, SHARPER IMAGE; you cant go wrong, right?). Dont even waste your time. Total disappointment. It looks like an old motels over the door fan (not pretty to look at). Aesthetics aside, it is super loud and does not have the same power to reach across my bedroom. I gave it three stars on temp control because it is totally useless. It turns on with the current temperature. With the VERY EASY to use remote, the temperature can be dropped to 60 degrees. Regardless of how long it stays on, it never comes close to 60. The lowest it has gone is 72. But then again, I am not using it as instructed (with the exhaust outside; but dont see how that would help the temp go down, in fact, it would probably increase). My goal was just to cool off very specific areas at a given time. This AC most definitely accomplishes that goal.

I always sleep with a fan on but wanted one that would blow air across the bed. This fan checked a lot of boxes for me including low noise, fit in the window, blowing air right across the bed at the right level and the remote at 3 am is nice. The unit is a little pricey and if there is any one thing going against it, it is the price. Function-wise, I’m happy with the purchase. It is super easy to install. Just sit it in the window frame, lower the window onto the unit, plug it in and you’re done. They also provide some insulated spacers to give a secure fit. The noise level from the fan is not bad. I havent had any problem sleeping because of the noise but its not super quiet either. Overall, its a good fan if you are looking for a window fan but it is not worth the price in my opinion.

My number one priority, in purchasing a window fan, was to get something QUIET. I had spent more money than I would have liked purchasing the traditional two fan window units that are so common today. Based on the promise and supporting reviews that they were very quiet fans, I purchased both a popular Bionaire and a Holmes fan. They were ok, but not nearly good enough. I wanted a fan as quiet as my ceiling fan on low and those two weren’t even in the ballpark. So through more searching, I eventually landed on the Vornado Transom. It’s not a traditional fan by any stretch of the imagination, but a few people said it was extremely quiet. Desperate to find something quieter than the others, I placed my bet. This fan is ACTUALLY quiet! On it’s lowest setting, it is a whisper compared to the other two. No, it’s not ceiling fan quiet, but I would compare it to the sound I’d hear coming through the vent when my central air is running. That’s pretty quiet! On high, yes the fan is much more noisy, but it moves a lot more air when on high. To be clear, low speed moves plenty of air, and high speed is not more noisy than the other models on high. Another difference between the Vornado and the other models, is the the fan speeds are SIGNIFICANTLY different. The difference between low and high on the other models is marginal at best. With the Vornado, low is ACTUALLY low… and high is ACTUALLY high. So you can choose between a quiet fan that gives you a nice breeze, or a noisy fan that moves air with quite a bit of force. Again, this unit on high was about as noisy as the other fans on high. On low, there is no contest. Do you get what I’m saying yet? THIS FAN IS VERY QUIET… MUCH quieter than any other window fan I’ve tried. So that’s the big sell for me. Other good features: The temperature selection works well. I set it up for 70 degrees, and it effectively turned on and off as necessary to bring in the cooler outside air. Since I keep the fan on low, I barely noticed when it turned on and off at all. This fan also gives you great privacy because you can’t see through it whether it’s on or off. A couple of not so great things about it... First, the foam blocks are not great. I needed an additional block that was 1/4 inch wide… I either had to try and squish a 1 inch block in that space (nope) or use something else to seal it. Vornado should rethink this strategy or include 1/2 and 1/4 inch blocks too. Considering the high quality construction of the unit, and the steeper price tag, Vornado should come up with something more eloquent. Secondly, the remote isn’t wonderful. You have to aim it DIRECTLY at the unit while you are DIRECTLY in front of it. And the range of the remote seems to be a pitiful 15 feet or so. I don’t know if that’s typical of this unit, but it’s definitely not great. Despite those two shortcomings, I still give the unit 5 stars based on its EXTREMELY LOW noise level given the decent amount of air it moves. If I ever need an additional window fan, this is the one I’ll get.

I have a second story bedroom in a reasonably well insulated house. On bright sunshiny days the upstairs gets warm, later in the day. When the sun goes down, the bedroom remains warm for the first part of the night. This fan can exhaust the hot air, or bring in the significantly cooler air, making the room much more comfortable faster. The fan is very quiet and aesthetically it blends with the window. It Allows my motorized room darkening shade to operate automatically and keep the road dark and cool for the evening. It was a wonderful investment.

I had been looking for a replacement for the Lakewood LPRW03 for about 10 years now. Lakewood had been bought out by Honeywell and then the fan was discontinued. The TRANSOM appears to be a modernized model of the LPRW03. The TRANSOM performs very similarly to the LPRW03 as far as noise to air movement ratio. This is very good, being completely below the noise floor of my area at 1, whisper quiet at 2, audible at 3 and somewhat loud at 4. Enough air is moved at speed 2 for me, so this is very appealing. The foam blocks work with my window extremely well. I installed the left foam block first, put the fan in, then slid the right foam block in from above the fan on the right side. The fit was a little on the tight side, but for sealing, thats a good thing. The temperature control leaves a lot to be desired. It is significantly impacted by the outside atmosphere, so you cannot really use it reliably to control the interior temperature. The remote is also oddly short range, which I didnt expect for an IR device. I have to be within about 10 feet for it to work.
