Youth Digital Mod Design 1 - Online Course for MAC/PC

This program is well worth the cost, 11 year old loves it. He had some beginning experience with python but is new to Java. The lessons are well put together and her is picking things up great. Great support as well, they are very quick to respond to his questions.

I will re-review after my son has had a couple of months experience with this. First impression, though, is not overly positive. This course is for an old (1.6.4) version of Minecraft, and a very old (JRE 1.6) version of Java. This caused hours of confusion and problems on my sons first attempt to start the course. You need to download Eclipse (a heavyweight Java development environment), which is slow, and when he started Eclipse per the video instructions (provided by a happy/chatty guy that my son seems to like but I find insufferable) was greeted with a blizzard of errors.

This course does not work on Macs--if you are running a Mac, do not buy this. They say in their advertising that it works on Macs, but it doesnt, and they do not provide adequate support to address the issues. Once they figure out that you are on a Mac, they simply stop responding to your Tech Support inquiries. We bought this for my 11 year old son for his main Christmas gift. We also bought a new iMac computer from the Apple Store so we could do the Youth Digital course. Despite working with the Youth Digital Tech Support for nearly two months, the course would not even install correctly enough to do the course. After multiple chats with tech support as well as live screen shares, they said my computer was too unique and they did not have a quick fix. By. It was a stock purchase from Apple -- nothing unique and I had not installed any other software. We also tried the course on our older iMac, which was running the Lion operating system. It didnt work on that one either. It is really disappointing and my son is crushed.

We had to struggle to register the product as the instructions included did not match the reality. Also downloading the product was hassle, as it has a huge download and fail several times over wireless. ... i had to finally hard wire and download.

Great presentation and organization of learning modules, and the kids laughed all the way through.

My son loves this course. Hes made significant and steady progress in learning Java, and by extension, fundamental programming concepts.

My seven-year-old son was so excited by this product. Dad and son have spent hours together modding Minecraft with it. His first mod was to create his own custom sword and he was ecstatic. Dad liked the fact that he and his son had something we could do together that was a significant bonding experience. Well thought-out, and easy to work with, this is a product I HIGHLY recommend if you have a child who is a fan of Minecraft. Cant say enough good things about this software. (Works with Mac OSX too!)

In order to use this you also have to buy the minecraft pc download for another $30. And then log in your credit card. Not happy!

Bought this for our sons 9th birthday and it was his favorite gift ever - he was so sad when the course was over! Excellent method of editing Minecraft java code that is very engaging, productive and educational. Codecademy et al. didnt connect with the simple coding results, this integration with making a mod kept him incredibly engaged. The videos are very well done and had him laughing out loud. EXCELLENT support response - very fast, very personal and very well tailored for kids. Hardest part now is waiting for Mod Design 2 !
