When the company youth digit owned and produced the product it worked wonderfully and was an awesome homeschooling tool. When youth digital was sold to APEX LEARNING it became part of a curriculum that they offer and the boxed software packaged by youth digital no longer works... DO NOT SPEND ANY MONEY ON THIS PRODUCT AS IT NO LONGER FUNCTIONS AND SHOULD NO LONGER BE SOLD BY ANY COMPANY WITH A CONSCIENCE.

Great program - Justin the teacher is perfect for this. Entertaining and engaging for kids. Does a great job taking it super slow and explaining everything in detail.

I cant say enough about this course and about all the Youth Digital courses - they are awesome and I highly recommend them! The instructors are wonderful with the kids and available for help with questions and my son has learned so much about coding and programming through the courses he has taken. Mod Design I is just one of the courses he has taken with YD and we have nothing but positive to say. If you are waffling on buying this for your child, just do it! You wont regret it!

Mod Design 1 is a fantastic program for mine craft enthusiasts! I recommend this to kids 8-14. My 11 year old was a bit skeptical at first because his Christmas gift was a online class, however, once he got started, he couldnt get enough! I am excited to give this review as STEM teacher-this is a must have for your brainiac! This took mine craft to a whole other level. The program is excellent and easy to follow. The instructors are only an e-mail away and are always great about personalizing their responses. Thank you Youth Digital!;)

My 8 year old son cant wait to watch the videos and create and design the mods. I program for a living and was excited to see this course, Ive been looking for ways to engage my son in programming, but found things too basic or too much click and drag in other programs for his age. With this course he is learning real programming concepts, how to work within packages, instantiate classes, call methods, read source code, debug and much more all in a fun an non-intimidating way. There is also a creative aspect to the course where you are taught to navigate Gimp, and open-source graphics editor.

I bought this for my 8 year old grandson. He loves Minecraft and all things computer related. I thought this might help him learn to do something more useful than playing games. It is wonderful! My son and grandson work together on this and he is really learning to code using Java. It is not an easy program to use, but they have wonderul support available. I would recommend this for older children also, my 8 yo is probably the exception in his ability to master the concepts (no, that is not just proud grandma talk - this kid is AMAZING with computers and games). Overall, well worth the money and I plan to buy more of their products.

8 year old loves it!

I rarely bother to review anything, but we bought this for our 9 year old son for Christmas and he immediately became obsessed. I cant comment on the quality of the content, because my son really did all of the components independently (and my Minecraft and coding knowledge is limited). But I will say thank you to Youth Digital for putting together a program that was easy enough for him to move through independently and engaging enough to keep him involved to the end. He emailed questions to Youth Digital along the way, and always got quick and helpful responses. After submitting his final project he got a thoughtful and thorough review of his mod. A staff member had clearly taken the time to play through his design and note what worked and what didnt. That meant a lot to him.

If you are contemplating on buying this for your young programmers, dont think too much. This course will get them into the mood of programming. My son is a big fan of minecraft and when I saw this course through Amazon local, I knew that he would like this course. Up to this point he has completed all of the course work and he has learned some programming skills along the way. He can manipulate the code to make his weapons stronger and also can change the world design. The teacher on this course walk them through the basics of making a sword to changing the way that the world looks on the game. The only downside is that the course last 1 year, so I might have to buy it again so he can keep programming. Great course for the young programmers in the family, get them started young. This keeps them entertained for hours. If you like to relax and not worry about kids running around the house, this will make your day a lot easier. This course has a help option where they can ask the teachers for help directly.

I do not write many reviews except when I come across a truly exceptional product. I purchased this SW training package for my 10 year old son for Christmas. He has been a minecraft builder for many years. I wanted to get him engaged in the details and learn about SW programming in the process. The fact that these training modules have grabbed his attention and he spends time using the SW by his own choice speaks a lot about how great it is. However, that is not what motivated me to write the review. As the parent I receive a CC to all emails he exchanges with support with questions. I have been absolutely blown away by the level of support they have provided. They are working with a 10 year old and they exhibit an amazing amount of patience helping my son debug problems in his code. The support is very responsive to his emails. They look through is code and help he understand what he has overlooked or forgotten with his program. They are helpful, courteous and most importantly they know how to communicate with a 10 year old such that they learn and avoid frustrations.
