Zoo Med Floating Turtle Log

> 24 hourThis is a great product for my turtle. I started with the zoo med floating turtle dock but then wanted to give this log a try to go with it. Had to buy it used cuz it was too expensive but I’m pretty sure he likes it. I heard some negative reviews about “your turtle will drown” but wanted to take my chances but it’s fine cuz he’s too big to fit inside. Mostly bought it for turtle and cuz it looks realistic and good detail. It actually does float and doesn’t sink to the bottom… Turtle enjoys it a lot I’d say 10 stars and 100% satisfied. Highly recommend for turtle owners. EDIT: about 2 months later, he got stuck inside. 10 minutes after i fed him, I heard him banging on the glass, and i knew something was wrong. i looked and he was stuck inside all the way. apparently, a shrimp got in there. of course, he went after it, and thats what happened... at that point, we were both thinking the same thing: what do I do now? Had to take log out of turtle tank and put it in the bath tub. i tried to gently pull him out from behind, but i couldnt from the front or he couldve bitten me. He was totally stuck inside and i was about to break the log open with my bare hands, hopefully without hurting him. But thankfully i didnt have to cuz he got out, eventually, with my help. The problem was is that when he knew he was stuck, he tried to escape through the way he was facing. thats how he got really stuck cuz for some reason, that side of the log had a smaller opening. so then he tried going out the way he came in, (which wouldve been a good idea) but i dont blame him cuz he just a turtle. I was about to pull him gently from behind, but he was halfway out and I chose not to cuz i didnt know if i was hurting him, i just let him do it himself, cuz he knows what hurts him, but I dont. He got out, thank god. i dont think he was hurt but he looked really stressed, as i was. I was just relieved he was ok. he got nothing to bask on now cuz i threw out the basking dock cuz it broke a while ago. got to buy another dock now i guess. i think what Im trying to say is that this log almost DROWNED my soulmate. I noticed the original review, I said he was too big to fit inside... but that was True though cuz i contacted the seller for questions I had. Well, what i didnt know was that he still COULD get stuck inside. Now i know. its not always what it seems... READERS BEWARE.

> 24 hourWe have a fully grown painted turtle in a 120 gallon tank and the log is buoyant enough for his shell to be entirely out of the water with only his back legs submerged.

> 24 hourso the claim that this log will “never sink” is simply false. i got one of these for my eastern painted turtle years ago, and after maybe 2ish years, it began to sink and is now to the point that it doesn’t float at all. in addition to that, the paint comes off over time, especially if you clean it with a toothbrush like i do (which is kind of necessary in my opinion as it collects algae in all the little crevices). so, i decided it was finally time to replace it. my turtle really likes the log and often prefers it to his basking dock. sometimes he’ll even sleep on the log. i’d give it 5 stars if it truly never sunk but considering that it takes multiple years to lose its buoyancy, it still gets 4 stars.

> 24 hourI bought this for my baby map turtle. He has quickly grown to 4”-5” from top of shell to bottom. The log itself is really stable and floats above water nice. The problem itself seems to be large turtles and the logs floatation. My log lost buoyancy after a few months and took in water. I already added the plastic packaging styrofoam type of material inside the log to raise it higher in the water. To lift it higher I added a thicker layer of some packing foam I had saved prior and conveniently black in color. I also solved the problem of the log floating around by adding a zoo-med magnet with line tied around one of its holes to the inside magnet clip. This works perfect. My set up is actually under my YouTube channel: JJLTX

> 24 hourIt floats. Looks like a log for being artificial. So no perfect since synthetic.

> 24 hourThe log sat in the tank for a few days, my turtles didnt seem to pay attention to it. Then today I saw one of my turtles halfway inside, except he was barely moving. I noticed he was stuck, underwater! When I lifted the log out of the water, I could literally hear him gasping for air. I then had to dislodge him from the log, and that further confirmed my suspicion that he was indeed stuck, when it even took me some time to get me out of the log. DO NOT PURCHASE! I AM LUCKY I NOTICED MY TURTLE OR HE WOULD HAVE DROWNED.

> 24 hourI have an RES hatchling and he has finally begun to use this log. In the beginning, I was worried that it was too steep for him to climb up... but thats not the case at all. He slowly started to warm up to me and started begging for food at every single opportunity he got... so I got sneaky. I started putting the food pellets on top of this log. When I came home from work, I noticed them to be mysteriously gone. Was he actually basking during the day? Had I been worried for nothing? Gradually, he started to feel comfortable going on his log even when I was in the same room. He now regularly perches on top of his log and extends his cute little head out for some UVA/UVB lights :-) Mine is a baby, less than an inch, and is faring well. The log is bottom heavy so it will NOT tip over. I plunk it in the water upside down and it immediately rights itself over. It is not sharp so when he slides off it to go back in the water I am not worried about his shell getting scratched. It is aesthetically pleasing and natural looking. Definite buy!
