so the claim that this log will “never sink” is simply false. i got one of these for my eastern painted turtle years ago, and after maybe 2ish years, it began to sink and is now to the point that it doesn’t float at all. in addition to that, the paint comes off over time, especially if you clean it with a toothbrush like i do (which is kind of necessary in my opinion as it collects algae in all the little crevices). so, i decided it was finally time to replace it. my turtle really likes the log and often prefers it to his basking dock. sometimes he’ll even sleep on the log. i’d give it 5 stars if it truly never sunk but considering that it takes multiple years to lose its buoyancy, it still gets 4 stars.

Its a perfect resting spot for your turtle of any size and age...I have the small log for my hatchling penelope..She is a red ear slider the size of a 50cent coin and she loves it...its not meant to be a basking platform....its very natural looking and easy to clean. Your pet turtle needs a sturdy basking spot...not a piece of material meant for them to drift on...

My turtles love this. Wished I had bought this when I first got them. I wished they would make a bigger one for when they outgrow this.

This is a great product for my turtle. I started with the zoo med floating turtle dock but then wanted to give this log a try to go with it. Had to buy it used cuz it was too expensive but I’m pretty sure he likes it. I heard some negative reviews about “your turtle will drown” but wanted to take my chances but it’s fine cuz he’s too big to fit inside. Mostly bought it for turtle and cuz it looks realistic and good detail. It actually does float and doesn’t sink to the bottom… Turtle enjoys it a lot I’d say 10 stars and 100% satisfied. Highly recommend for turtle owners. EDIT: about 2 months later, he got stuck inside. 10 minutes after i fed him, I heard him banging on the glass, and i knew something was wrong. i looked and he was stuck inside all the way. apparently, a shrimp got in there. of course, he went after it, and thats what happened... at that point, we were both thinking the same thing: what do I do now? Had to take log out of turtle tank and put it in the bath tub. i tried to gently pull him out from behind, but i couldnt from the front or he couldve bitten me. He was totally stuck inside and i was about to break the log open with my bare hands, hopefully without hurting him. But thankfully i didnt have to cuz he got out, eventually, with my help. The problem was is that when he knew he was stuck, he tried to escape through the way he was facing. thats how he got really stuck cuz for some reason, that side of the log had a smaller opening. so then he tried going out the way he came in, (which wouldve been a good idea) but i dont blame him cuz he just a turtle. I was about to pull him gently from behind, but he was halfway out and I chose not to cuz i didnt know if i was hurting him, i just let him do it himself, cuz he knows what hurts him, but I dont. He got out, thank god. i dont think he was hurt but he looked really stressed, as i was. I was just relieved he was ok. he got nothing to bask on now cuz i threw out the basking dock cuz it broke a while ago. got to buy another dock now i guess. i think what Im trying to say is that this log almost DROWNED my soulmate. I noticed the original review, I said he was too big to fit inside... but that was True though cuz i contacted the seller for questions I had. Well, what i didnt know was that he still COULD get stuck inside. Now i know. its not always what it seems... READERS BEWARE.

I have two of them tied together to make an island for my water turtle, he loves it. He can enjoy the sunshine without being bothered by any other animals.

I don’t have a turtle, but I bought this for my garter snakes. They love it! It serves as a hide and a basking spot under their lamp. I see them curled up on it all the time.

I have this in my 65 gallon tank and it’s great. It is free floating and so it moves around a lot but I think my turtle enjoys that, his filter kind of keep the log in one corner. It’s definitely his favorite thing to sun bathe on. I had to get another platform in addition to this one to feed him ok because this one rocks so much when he climbs on that he will dump all his food in the water. But overall it’s definitely his favorite spot to be either inside it or on top of it.

I have had this log in my turtle tank for a few years. First we thought it was great but as our turtle has grown he gets stuck inside the log. This log is great for small turtles but not for one bigger then the palm of your hand.

Great product, but kind of large for my 29 gallon tank. Id suggest using it in something larger. It has a very realistic, bark-like texture, which is great, but thats also the reason I didnt give it five stars -- those grooves are a great habitat for algae, and good luck cleaning that off once it starts accumulating. Overall, though, I really like it and would still recommend this item.

The new natural looking Floating Turtle Log provides security, comfort, and stress reduction for aquatic turtles, newts, frogs, mudskippers, and tropical fish. The hollow resin log floats just at the surface so that turtles can bask on top of it or hide submerged inside. Its Bottom-weighted design prevents the log from rolling over, even with two 4 (10cm) turtles on top."
