I hesitated to write a review because there were already over 1000 5-star reviews (because it is great) but I thought I would address some of the 1-star complaints. Its not good for horse-hooves. Seriously? Its not a very good rice-cooker either. It wasnt delivered. Thats unfortunate but it does not make it a bad tool. It bends too much. I dont know what youre doing but I can definitely say that you are doing it wrong. It rusts. It is made of carbon steel like a ton of other quality knives & tools and, like them, it will rust if you dont take care of it. Try not leaving it out in the rain and drying it off if you get it wet. I have used this thing for years and it is awesome for rasping off wood and not clogging up while doing it. It has a coarse side and a fine side but it is for roughing out work, not fine finishing.

I purchased this rasp for my husband and he loves it! Excellent quality and durable, and it removes a lot of material very easily. Can be used for shaping and smoothing as well. You just have to be careful about what you use it on; there is no way to clean the rasp reliably if something gets stuck to it. Apparently its also a little difficult if you need to put pressure on the tip to guide it because it then pushes uncomfortably into the hand, but it doesnt seem to be designed for two-handed use. Excellent product for the price.

Works well for shaping wood. The coarse side removes material quickly, and the finer side smooths out the surface reasonably well afterwards, although you will need to sand or use a scrapper for the final smoothing. Quality of the tools finish is high. I have only started using it, so I cant speak to durability.

very suprised, i needed a rasp and all the high end, very expensive ones where on back order, the virus i suppose, so i ordered this one. Man this thing is a wood hog it will move wood like now!! But it is rough i then use a single cut smoothing file to dress the rasps marks up i highely reccomend it, and it wont break the bank to get one!!!

Im not a woodworker, but rather an artisan blacksmith; however, I frequently combine wood components with my iron sculptures After frustration with standard wood rasps because of slow material removal, I discovered the Shinto Saw Rasp. It is much superior to other rasps. Highly recommend it.

Very aggressive and leaves a smooth finish just like the reviews said. How they found a perfect balance I dont know but I wish I wouldve bought this years ago. If you shape wood alot, do you self a favor and buy yourself one of these...

This is the best darned saw Ive ever had! Ive been a woodworker for 40 years and Ive never had a saw that cut so easily and well. Im building a wooden boat now and this saw is indispensable.

This is an extremely handy tool for rough shaping furniture legs, guitar neck blanks and so much more. Works fast and is completely controllable. I started carving with the coarse side to rough shape, then switched to fine to clean up the surface – with better than anticipated results! Finished up with 180- and 220-grit sandpaper, in record time vs. using a spoke shave. May have to order the planing version now...

The good. Firstly I make furniture and archery bows. I bought this for making bows. This thing is AMAZING! From floor tillering to 6 through 24 inches of draw I used the course side from 24 to 27 I used the fine side. Finishing the last inch with a card scraper. Never have I had such a high quality rasp for this price. It never clogged up like a traditional rasp. I used a scrap piece of red oak and pine respectively in an attempt to make it clog. Not happening, the wood will fill the open areas and just slowly fall out the other side. Wanna fill the center then flip it over for a different cut go ahead, wont clog. All in all I love it will purchase again if its ever dulled and or damaged. The bad. Handle is kinda slippery from the lacquer. I will be sanding that off later. The tip has no comfy place to hold onto when making a cut. Shout out to Shinto make a model or option for a small wooden knob on the tip. Id pay more for it. The area about the metal bolster when the rasp meets the handle could be better reinforced. If you push incorrectly there is a possibility you could bend it and possibly ruin or break the rasp.
