> 3 dayIm building a small boat and needed a way to even the sides and the chines to be able to attach the bottom. Im terrible at sharpening plane irons, so I needed some sort of rasp better than the 4-in-1 file/rasp that I already had. I decided to give this one a try, and it was perfect for the job. And now Im finding it great for rounding the bottom edges in preparation for fiberglass and epoxy.

> 3 dayAwesome tool. Perfect, read the other reviews... This thing could clear a forest! OK, maybe not, but a great tool for the price.

20-04-2025This rasp is one of those items one wishes he would have had years ago. I have used cabinet-makers rasps and although they cannot be replaced, this Shinto comes close to causing one to at least think about it. First, its lightweight and firm. The quality is there while not being so bulky that one gets tired using it. Second, it cuts like a dream. Even the course side leaves most woods with little finishing to do. Use the fine side and you will likely move to whatever finish you use from there. If you want to remove a lot of wood in short order this tool is a great guy.

> 3 dayGreat tool!!! Can really rasp off some wood pretty quickly!!! Built sturdy, would definitely recommend this item to others that work with wood.

20-04-2025It’s hack saw blades reconfigured in a criss-cross pattern to attack wood without leaving huge directional gouges. Simple but smart. Tears away wood in a hurry but leaves the surface even enough to minimalize sanding time. It’s has a rough and smooth side. The smooth side usually works good enough for me. It is for flat surfaces mainly like all other flat rasp. It’s a bar room brawler with tuxedo manners. One of my better wood working purchases in that it digs away wood in a hurry but gives me a better sense of control. Like other comments before, I wish it had a handle on both ends as it only cuts one way like most Japanese blades but it’s a great tool I am happy to recommend. Another good thing is it doesn’t clog up as much as my old, bigger toothed rasps.

19-04-2025I had this tasp saw in my wishlist for several months. I just never pulled the trigger. I make hiking sticks and other wood projects, have thought about the rasp saw but figured my old rasps, knives and files were fine. Out of the blue I just ordered it. The day it arrived I had to give it a try. Needless to say, my old rasps and files are put away. This thing is freaking awesome. Sharp as.......the fine side does really good work without removing too much material. The course side is killer, removes a great amount of material without leaving big ruts in the wood. You can play with the amount of pressure you use and take more or less material. Its really an amazing tool. Ive had bark buildup in between the blade but a quick slap against my hand and it cleans pretty easily.

> 3 dayThis thing is a BEAST. It removes more material in a shorter amount of time than any other rasp by a long shot. Some rasps grab/bind up mid-stroke, but you can almost always push through each stroke with this rasp, giving great control. It is a joy to use. I may try to fashion a top handle so I can told it both on top and bottom to work even faster with more forceful strokes. The fine tooth side gets you ready for finishing sandpaper if you finish with a gentle stroke. At $16, this thing is an absolute steal. Best $16 Ive spent in a long time. I did slip and skinned my thumb and finger. It will take your skin off quick, worse that other files. Id recommend wearing gloves every time. SUGGESTION TO MANUFACTURER: a removeable upper handle to give two handed strokes would be great (Id pay for it). Also, a rounded version of this to help get in crevices would be welcome, and Id buy it right up.
