This is based off using this for 2D Gaming. I wont be using this monitor for 3D gaming because I think its terrible. Pros: +144hz eliminates almost all motion blur in games. If you have the computer power to push them higher frames. +60hz vs 144hz is night and day. +Anti Glare Coating is super nice. Not grainy looking at all and keeps glares at bay. + I havent noticed any input lag at all in various games. +Price is right for this tech +I love the adjustable stand +Asus OSD is easy to navigate with good options to calibrate +Very easy to fine tune using Spyder 4 elite Negatives: - Very poor luminance uniformity. Spyder 4 showed 35% difference on upper left sector. - All 4 Asus monitors purchased in last 2 months all had stuck pixels. (Three pb278q returned with zero problems because Amazon is the best in the business) -Minor backlight bleed -Worst colors out of box I have ever seen. Spyder 4 elite made this look half way decent. -TN Panel, so poor colors compared to newer IPS/PLS Panels. Most these problems point to quality control IMO. UPDATE 1/26/2013: All TN panels look bad to me after buying a Asus pb278q which is a pls panel with amazing colors, so I am probably being a bit harsh when I say the colors are bad. But 60hz is just too slow for fast gaming. Where this panel really shines is first person shooters, barely any motion blur. 144fps in Battlefield 3 has helped my aim so much its not even funny. After playing at higher refresh rate, I cannot play on 60hz anymore, it looks terrible. Im raising this one star to 4/5 after gaming on it hardcore for last 24hrs. Would be 5/5 if not for the poor uniformity and stuck pixel. This panel will have to do tell the big companies make a 120hz IPS/PLS or Oled monitor but we wont see that in the near future because you would need so much graphic power to run 1440p at 120hz and get acceptable frames. My EVGA 690 cant even max out all eye candy in games like Farcy 3, Metro 2033, etc... and keep 120+fps constant on this vg248qe 1080p monitor.

This is my 3rd ASUS monitor. The first two were purchased years ago for a dual screen setup. This was my first experience with a 144hz monitor (the previous monitors were only 60hz) and all I can say is What a difference! Games were fantastic with my GPU set to 144hz refresh rate. Fast scrolling through webpages looks like Im literally moving a long piece of paper. The page isnt choppy at all. I wish I would have had the funds to go 1 step further and get the 4k monitor from ASUS. The stand is great. Easy height adjustment with just slight pressure up or down. Plenty of tilt and rotation as well as being able to rotate the monitor vertically 90 degress which would be great for coding. It seems quite stable as monitors go as well.If you get any wobble from typing/gaming its probably due to the quality of the desk it sits on and not the stand. Mine doesnt move even a little on my desk. If it matters, the buttons are on the bottom (my previous ASUS monitors were this way as well). The big difference with these buttons is that the power button is more protruded than the others (both the buttons on this monitor and the buttons previously used by ASUS) and it lights up which combined makes it easy to locate by both feel and sight. Switching between view settings is easy. It comes with pre-set views optimized for different uses. Or you can customize it to whatever you would like. If you dont have your heart set on 4k or the AMD/Nvidia plugins, you will not go wrong with this monitor. Its a great buy and I highly recommend ASUS monitors for their price/performance.

Simply put, this is the best gaming monintor Ive ever used. I wanted a high refresh rate (120-144hz) and low response time monitor to take advantage of my computer rig featuring an EVGA GTX 670 and i5 3570K processor and the high frame rates it is capable of producing. Mission accomplished! Pros: -Smoothness: Ran through a bunch of my games (BF3, Dirt 3, Mafia II, Medal of Honor, Far Cry 3) and the 144hz smoothness is undescribeably more smooth than my HP 60hz monitor was every capable of producing. No more motion blur during quick movement, no more sreen tearing when frame rates go above 60 fps. -No more V-sync: To avoid screen tearing in the past, I would have to turn v-sync on in my games. That produced noticeable input lag in most games I played. With this high refresh rate, you no longer have to turn V-sync on. -Bright: Perhaps too bright out of the box, but enjoying the LED backlight -Assembly: Very easy and quick to assemble. Beautiful looking, sturdy stand with tons of adjustments (height, pivot, tilt, you name it.) -Matte finish: I know some prefer a glossy screen for supposed better picture quality, but not having a monitor acting like a mirror is a huge plus for me. -3D Vision 2 capable: Havent tested 3D yet because I dont own the 3D vision kit yet (sold separately) but I do plan to get it soon. -Price: 280 here on Amazon with free shipping! Nothing else like it in the price bracket. Bigger Asus monitor and 24 Benq monitors that feature similar specs are 390-500. Cons: -I dont belive you can do 3D through HDMI input (If you can please correct me) so Id dont believe I can play 3D games and Blu-Rays with my PS3 on this. -You need a high end video card to push enough frames to make this worth it. Have at least a GTX 660Ti or similar to be able to push above 60 FPS to get the biggest benefit of this monitor. Even with a GTX 670, I had to turn down a few settings/reduce AA to get frame rates in the low 100s. Might look to SLI my GTX 670 in the future to ensure 120 FPS and buttery smooth gameplay when I go 3D. -Color and viewing angles are not as good as on other forms of LCDs (IPS panels, etc) but I dont do photo editing or plan on watching many movies on this, so that doesnt bother me. Understand going into it that this is a gaming monitor first and foremost, and you are buying this for the 144 refresh rate, 1 ms response time, and 3D Vision 2 Lightboost capabilites. Only had it for 1 day, but I am very satisified with this so far. Cant wait to go 3D and enter the 3rd dimension!

Since Amazon lumps multiple models together on one review list, and search results eliminate the section which identifies which model is being reviewed: This is for the ASUS VG248QE 24 Full HD 1920x1080 144Hz 1ms HDMI Gaming Monitor. It also has Display Port (DP) and DVI-D Dual Link (although I thought it is DVI-I Dual Link, but I dont want to unhook the cable to verify, so Ill go with the listing details). Last purchased Feb 2, 2014, Style: 24 FHD 1ms 144Hz Height Adjustable | Pattern Name: Gaming Monitor After owning this monitor for nearly NINE YEARS, I am still very pleased by it. Overall, there is a lot to like, and not much to dislike about this monitor. I primarily use it for gaming, working, and other typical computer use. The image is crisp, the colors are vivid, the blacks are deep, and can be made even deeper using ASCR, there is barely any backlight bleeding, ZERO dead pixels (no green, black, or bright pixels - nothing at all wrong with the image), fast 1ms response time, high 144hz refresh rate - there really is very much to like. (Other than something I did - my own fault - to slightly damage the surface with a sharp object one time about 7 years ago) the monitor is visually and cosmetically flawless. I only have two very small complaints after almost a decade of constant use: 1. The frame on the top is just barely starting to lift off the top in a short portion of the middle, and occasionally allows a bit of the backlight to shine through - but even this issue, I think, is going away after I have worked on pushing the frame back in place and it seems to no longer have the issue anymore. It might also have to do with temperature differences due to changing seasons resulting in slight expanding or contracting of the material. Really not a big deal, and almost not worth mentioning, but I want to give an honest, fair, and complete review. 2. The height adjustment has recently (within the last year or so - i.e. after about 8 years of use) started to lose its ability to hold the monitor at its position. However, this comes with three pertinent caveats: - First, my wife and daughter very often use my computer when I am away and move the monitor down, and then I have to move it back up when I get back, so it experiences a lot of wear and tear. - Second, I have my very heavy Logitech gaming headset conveniently hanging on the back of the monitor (because it has such a perfectly shaped section which, although probably not designed for this, perfectly holds my headset in place) which significantly adds to the overall weight of the monitor hanging on the height-adjustment mechanism. - Third, even with the problem existing, by moving the monitor to the desired position and holding it in place for a few moments, it will typically hold its position, even with the heavy headset hanging on the back. So, thats it. No other cons. I havent read many of the other reviews, but I did see something about color issues: this is fairly easily addressable via monitor settings, and if needed, Nvidia Control Center settings (or the equivalent AMD settings). Also, if you have any issues with Ghosting, I suggest adjusting your Trace Free setting to either 60 or 80. I advise not using 100, as that seems to overcorrect the issue and introduce inverse ghosting, if I recall correctly from previous testing. Setting it too low (i.e. 40 or below) doesnt seem to correct it enough, but it could work for some people. The only reason I am shopping around for another monitor at this point is because my wifes monitor (different brand/model) died and so I am giving her this monitor. Otherwise, I would plan to just keep using this monitor for years to come. I highly recommend buying this monitor.

This Asus monitor, for the money, is one of the best on the market right now for a PC or Apple computer. If you are buying this for your gaming console you will only be using the HDMI connection and losing the well-defined picture this monitor is capable of reproducing, especially with a higher Refresh Rate. -- Comparison Statistics -- :: Response Time (GTG): 1 ms. :: Maximum Refresh Rate: 144hz. :: Screen Diagonal Size: 24 inches :: Screen Dimensions: 22-3/8 (W) x 13-5/16 (H) x 1-7/8 (D) :: Telescoping Ability: 16 to 20-3/8 Total Height [The number is the top of the monitor] :: Tilt Capability: Forward and backward :: Stand Dimension: 9 inch Diameter :: Speakers: 2 x 2 watts :: Ports: Display Port, Dual Link DVI, HDMI :: Headphone Output: None :: USB Ports: None -- What Is Need to Use The Monitor at HD -- :: A graphics card capable of reproducing a 144hz. Refresh Rate :: A computer graphics card with Dual Link Display Port or DVI-D connectors :: Optional: An ICC Profile (a set pre-configured values) to help you set up a balanced color palette -- The Computer System for comparison -- :: Dell Studio XPS 8100 (about 5 years old) :: Intel Core i5 CPU 650 @ 3.20Ghz. :: 8GB DDR3-SDRAM Dual Channel Memory :: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750ti Graphics Card w/ 2MB memory If you are looking to upgrade your monitor, with a 60-70hz refresh rate and a slow Response Time, this is the one. You definitely bump up considerably when you purchase this monitor. I play on World of Tanks using the High Definition mode. The difference in the colors and detail are very noticeable provided you have a graphics card capable of running High-Def with a 144hz Refresh Rate. The colors from the Asus reproduced out of the box were atrocious when hooked up to my PC. I tried using my on-board NVIDIA cards program but it never came close to what I was searching for in terms of color balance and brightness. It took too much time, so it was off to the search engine I went. I was able to find several web pages that had an ICC Profile pre-configured for my NVIDIA graphics card and all that was needed, after installation, was to tweak the brightness a bit. Many thanks for those people who put them out there. Using the ICC Profile saved me a lot of time. If you need help understanding how to load an ICC Profile once you have downloaded it to your computer just search, Using ICC Profile in Windows. I cant guarantee you will find the ICC Profile for your particular graphics card but if you do find one it saves a lot of time and experimentation. If you are a hands-on person there are also multiple web pages that will help you, step by step, through the process of using your graphics card software program to set up your monitor and then tweak it for game play. The telescoping stand and tilt works easily and can be moved on a moment’s notice if needed. The monitor feels solid on the desk, unlike some monitors I have owned. It is real nice to have a solid stand and monitor standing on your desk without the threat of the cat or child accidentally knocking it over. I have not used the speakers on the monitor because I use gaming headphones. I cannot comment on their capability. Monitor speakers I have used didnt have dynamic sound so unless you are hard-up for sound dont bother. This card gets 5 stars because it delivered, in spades, the best color and image definition, as well as some nice extras, Ive seen since using computers in the past 10 years. Are there better monitors out there? Yes, but this price point makes it a great choice for budget-minded gamers with a huge bump in definition above your normal graphics card. Just do your home- work to make sure your computer and graphics card have the capability to use its maximum settings. You will be very pleased with the results. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: Make sure you change the graphics card Refresh Rate to 144hz!

Note: My old monitor was a 24inch Samsung widscreen monitor with a 3000:1 contrast ratio. This is an absolute beautiful monitor! The colors are vibrant and everything looks so smooth and crisp. The first time I plugged it in I just started at my desktop background for a couple minutes, and then started browsing pictures on the internet. It was truly a whole new experience. My friend came over a couple days after I had installed it, and he was blown away too. Games, internet, movies, photos, all look amazing. Youre going to see a lot more detail that you missed before, even if you had a similar sized monitor. The 144hrz of the monitor means 144fps, compared with the conventional 60-75 hrz (60-75 fps). If you play the latest games, and are a huge gamer, you probably wont be able to notice a difference in framerate, since the target fps is around 40-60 with your video card. But if you play older games that support higher frame rates, or you play games at lower quality to get 100~ fps, then this will be a huge jump. MAKE SURE TO SET YOUR DISPLAY OPTIONS TO 144HRZ TO EXPERIENCE IT PROPERLY! One thing to note when handling the monitor: When tilting it 90 degrees, from landscape to portrait, If its too low you can scratch the pristine base. Make sure to lift up the monitor as high as possible before rotating it. I scratched mine sadly. :( If you want to do 3D, you are going to have to buy special Nvidia 3D glasses and youll need an Nvidia compatible video card. The glasses are around $50-$100, and the card could go well above $200. I already have the card, and I hope to buy the glasses soon.

I purchased this monitor before G-sync went live and fell deeply in love with the response rate and the 144hz speed. I am a professional gamer and play games that require twitch movement and speed. I went from a 70Hz 6ms Asus monitor to this whopping 144Hz 1ms monitor and I DEFINITELY notice a difference. From games such as Starcraft and CS:GO, this monitor provides you with the edge in game. I demand performance and this is exactly what it gave me and more. I installed G-Sync following the DIY tutorial on NVIDIAs web site. The installation was easy granted that I have experience dismantling and building computers and components. The overall installation only took 20 minutes for me and really improved my gaming performance. The twitch games such as CS:GO are the kind that I really saw a jump in improvement. The G-Sync along with the 1ms and 144Hz gave games such as BF4, Crysis, and CS:GO a great boost in fluidity and responsiveness. As stated before, my old monitor was 6 years old and this upgrade turned my whole life around. The responsiveness, cleanliness, and fluidity are very noticeable and give me more of an enjoyable gaming experience. I have even restarted various games such as Metro and Bioshock because the gameplay was that much more enjoyable with this monitor and with G-sync installed. If you are in the market for a gaming monitor that is G-sync capable, look no further. For the price you are getting a top-notch monitor with the capability of adding g-sync to really boost your experience. This is by far one of the most important parts of my gaming rig i have purchased and is one that I highly recommend to anyone who wants to get the most out of their computer and their gaming experience. Side note: I have recently ditched my 60hz 42in TV from my living room since I am no longer able to bare the slow 60Hz. I now watch TV on my Asus monitor...

Bought this to upgrade my monitors to 144hz turns out that you need to use the DVI ports to get this and not the HDMI. Its just advertised as a 144hz product description should mention that only the DVI ports get 144hz

I was doing this A TON of reviewing before buying a monitor and finally deciding on this one. To address some other reviews with the bad image quality right out of the box or dead pixels...I don’t have any of that. I think this thing looks perfect right out of the box! I do see I’ll be changing settings depending on the game I’m playing. I do see what some reviewers describe as a glossy or smudged screen look? I guess if you have a window shining on it you’ll notice it more. I honestly don’t have a problem with it unless you really look for it and stare at it. So it’s not as bad as others claim! Games look great on it, G sync compatibility is awesome and the best part it comes with two cables hdmi and display port! Honestly if you were like me Deciding between this and any other monitor, get this!! It’s honestly a bigger screen than most of the other monitors in the 24” series and despite what people say it’s perfect right out of the box!
