I bought this for my adventuresome 9 year old who loves everything outdoors. He has been able to easily use this tool to start fires (under supervision). He loves it and it teaches good survival skills.

Ive used a lot of ferrocerium rods. This one works amazingly well. Finally a rod that is long enough to hold and strike. This is perfect for learning to light fires. I am going to buy these for my Webelos Scouts so they will be prepared for Boy Scouts.

Effective! I handed it to my wife to start a wood fire. She has never used one before. Despite her protest, (she was a good sport) she reluctantly agreed to try with some minor coaching. She got the tinder burning on the second strike and started her first wood fire with a ferro rod! If a novice with no experience can start a fire on the second strike, that has to say something about the product.

Great ferro rod. Not too soft, nor too hard.

Easy to use and the paracord makes it so that you can get a good spark without too much effort. I like that there is a tool for striking vs. having to use your knife. I bought this so that I could be prepared on long hikes or backpacking trips if I ever needed to spend the night in the woods alone. Was trained by a mountain man on how to use this and it delivers exactly what it should! Came in less than a week. Overall happy with the purchase. Ill practice by starting fires in my fireplace this winter.
