Ive used a lot of ferrocerium rods. This one works amazingly well. Finally a rod that is long enough to hold and strike. This is perfect for learning to light fires. I am going to buy these for my Webelos Scouts so they will be prepared for Boy Scouts.

This fire starter is awesome but I must say it doesn’t produce large amount of shower sparks. What sparks do come out they stay lit longer allowing your tinder to start burning.

Not kidding, after ruffing up the surface with sandpaper, I caught a spark on my char cloth with the first strike. Very impressive.

Excellent value for money. Makes Gobs of sparks easily once you scrape off the black protective coating. This is the best fire-starting setup I have found. The large rod gives you something to hold on to, and the scraper works really well. Make your life easy and bring plenty of good tinder material with you, and prep lots of good kindling too. Adding a few magnesium scrapings makes it even easier. Try some WetFire Tinders to make it even simpler.
