Blood Lust (The Sentinels Book 3)

A Book Obsession..
> 3 dayI really enjoy this series. It has all the great parts of a strong urban fantasy with a full plot and plenty of action while also having all the yummy romance parts of paranormal romance. Each book moves the overall plot of the series while still having such a large focus on the romance, and I love it. BLOOD LUST was no exception. In fact, Im pretty sure its now my favorite book in the series. It combines two of my favorite tropes, enemies to lovers and reunited lovers into one super tension filled yummy read. I knew from the first time Bas stepped onto the page in the previous books I HAD to read his story. He had broody scorned lover written all over him, and yet I just knew there was so much more to the mysterious Myst than Bass anger showed her to be. I was right and boy do the sparks fly in this one. Its one of those books where you just immerse your self and settle in to watch the sparks fly. Seriously if you love a good enemies to lovers book with a fierce attraction between the pair, this one is for you. Romance aside, there also was a really great plot in BLOOD LUST that kept me more than hooked. Theres a big threat looming over not only Bas and Mysts heads but their entire race. What made it even more suspenseful was that it all revolved around a prophecy and no one really knew what it meant, only that it was so terrifying that Myst was willing to sacrifice everything to prevent it. I have to admit that I did guess early on what the prophecy really meant, but that actually made me enjoy it even more as I was able to savor the read a bit more rather than frantically turning the pages just to get to the reveal. Another great thing about this book was the inclusion/foreshadowing of another couple, Lana and Wolfe. Or at least I hope they will become a couple. One of the reasons I love enemies to lovers books so much is all the oh so yummy tension that they bring, just like in BLOOD LUST. However theres plenty of tension between Lana and Wolfe, it practically sizzled right off the page, and they werent even the focus of this book! It made everything all the more enjoyable the way future and past couples were weaved into the story seamlessly, making the series all the richer for it. All in all if you love a tension filled romance with one heck of a plot, BLOOD LUST is the book for you. And if you havent read the previous Sentinel books, make sure you check them out too as they are all entertaining reads.

> 3 dayBook three was as good as book two. I liked Bas in book two so I was excited to read about him and the mother of his daughter, Molly. Their story was both passionate and sweet and at times emotional. They had a lot of secrets that they needed to reveal (or at least she did) in order for them to move forward. Their search for an understanding of Mysts vision that foretold that she would create a weapon that would destroy Valhalla took them from Kansas City to France and then to Valhalla, so they had an adventure. Throw in the Brotherhood as the villains yet again; this time, run by a psychotic woman, kept the story moving along nicely. It wasnt dull or slow and I liked watching the cold mercenary/assassin Bas go from cold and angry to warm and protective of Myst. Molly played a role in this one more than in Blood Assassin. She ends up going to Valhalla to keep her safe while Bas and Myst seek out answers about her vision. She wins over the Mave and the Tagos, and she becomes a hostage to the psychotic woman who was the leader of the Brotherhood when she was arrested and thrown into the prison at Valhalla. She escapes her cell and finds her way to the nursery (accidentally) and when she meets Molly, she uses her to get Myst to come to her to give her the weapon she was supposed to create. I enjoyed the story and how it unfolded.

Dark Faerie Tales
26-11-2024Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales Quick & Dirty: A dangerous prophecy and assassin with his family in danger. Opening Sentence: It has been over a century since the high-bloods revealed themselves to the norms. The Review: Bas is still reeling from the kidnapping of his daughter Molly. Her mother, Myst, dropped her off right after her birth and disappeared. But now that Molly is home safe she tells Bas that Mommy is coming for a visit. Bas is beyond shocked when Myst strolls right into his office. He not as shocked to find that he reacts to her exactly the same way as when he first met her. This time he is determined to hate, but keeps it in check because Molly is so excited. After a few a days Bas finally gets Myst to reveal her story, not all of it, but why she dropped Molly off and why she is on the run. The Brotherhood is hunting her because she had a prophecy that she would create a dangerous weapon that would kill high-bloods. Bas contacts the Meave to make arrangements for Molly’s safety and to meet with Boggs in order to find out more about Myst’s prophecy. The meeting goes very wrong and Bas is knocked unconscious and Myst is taken by the Brotherhood. Soon Bas is racing against time to not only stop The Brotherhood, but rescue Myst as well. Will he be able to keep Myst and Molly safe? Will he finally have the love he has been waiting for? I give kudos to this series because I haven’t read the first two books and I was able to read this one and not feel confused at all. I am sure some of the characters, events, and story tie in with the first two, so I do recommend you start at the beginning. I loved Myst, I don’t know that I would have been strong enough to make the choices she did, but I always enjoy seeing a character that loves their child and is willing to make sacrifices for them. Bas is total bad boy, but his love for Myst and Molly was just so nice to see. I couldn’t stop reading the story. It was fast paced and action packed. I don’t see another book listed, but that can always change. For now there are two more before this as well as two novellas.

> 3 dayAlexandra Ivy never disappoints. Her characters leap off the pages, and her world building is so realistic that chores will go undone and the family will be unfed while you try to squeeze in just one more chapter. While Blood Lust is the most recent in The Sentinels series, it can be read and enjoyed on its own merits. On the face of it simply a paranormal romance, the underlying themes are as basic as time itself: a mothers love for her child, betrayal by trusted comrades, and the raw pursuit of power. Read, enjoy, recommend.

Greater than one weekBas is a Sentinel who turned mercenary. He has been raising his little girl by himself since her mother dropped her off as a baby. Myst is clairvoyant and a group called Blood Brothers want her. They think she will make a device that will destroy the high bloods. She returns to see her daughter and Bas wants her to leave until he finds out the real reason she left their child. Bas and Myst go to a doppelganger to see if he can tell them the weapon that she will make. Now they have the Blood Brothers after them and theyll do anything to get their hands on her. Exciting. Sexy. A little slow to start but it speeds up toward the end. Leaves you on the edge of your seat. I debated whether to put 3.5 stars or 4. It is really in between them two. What really bugs me is Myst is supposed to have silver hair with a little curl. The girl on the cover has red hair. That drives me crazy.

> 3 dayBas and Myst have alot of history its called Molly. Love the great interactions with other characters. Alot of heat between Bas and Myst. They work thru things and get happy ever after. Cant wait for the next story in this series. One last thing love can change some of the most ruthless people.

Greater than one weekSo I totally rationed myself on this book, since I didnt know when the next Sentinels book was scheduled. I was lucky enough to read the other books pretty much back to back. I have to say, this is one of my favorite worlds. Alexandra does an amazing job of creating these rich, complicated and complex characters, and then surprises you every time. You meet Bas in Blood Assassin, where he should have been a Bad Guy, but in reality, just because he has flexible morality for many things, deep down, he is a Sentinel and understands what is important. Once again, the theme of the family make and overcoming less than ideal families is strong in this story. Myst is an interesting character. I wanted her to be silly and frivolous and selfish, but shes none of those things, even from the beginning. Together, Bas and Myst are able to find what they are looking for. And of course Molly, I hope to see more of her too. In addition to Bas and Myst, we get even more insight into Wolfe and Lana. Ivy did a great job of balancing both stories. I didnt feel cheated on either story. AND if we dont get Wolfe and Lanas story soon, ok I dont have threat, but I am hoping we will get it sooner rather than later!

> 3 dayThe Sentinel Series has been one of my favorite by Alexandra Ivy but in Blood Lust I just had trouble warming up to Bas and Myst. That really has never happened in the past with characters from Ms. Ivy’s creation so I guess it was time. The writing is as solid as ever filled with plenty of different places and people. In some ways it is a pure fantasy delight. My only reason for not loving it is the two main characters. Myst never confined in Bas but now she does several years after Molly’s birth. Of course, Bas is still attracted to her and he loves his daughter so he helps her mother. Basically they do what they do for selfish reasons. These are characters who have different moral compasses from what I like in my heroes. The villains in this story are much worse so I was glad of the ending. Liked but didn’t love as I have the previous books. Copy provided by the publisher through Net Galley for an honest review.
