Blood Lust (The Sentinels Book 3)

> 3 dayBlood Lust is the third book in The Sentinels and I think this series is actually getting better as it goes along. This book centers around Bas and Myst. Bas was introduced in the second book and was actually one of the villains. I actually enjoy a complex villain and his deep love for his daughter made him a lot more than a card board villain so I was curious to see where this book would go and I hoped that Bas would remain a grey character and not be too thoroughly redeemed. Myst and Bas had a one night stand and then she disappeared only to drop off a baby to Bas nine months later. Bas raised his daughter and although he searched for Myst after a while he began to think of her as selfish. Myst stayed in telepathic contact with her daughter and had her own reasons for leaving Molly with Bas. This book takes place shortly after the second book when Bas has rescued his daughter from the kidnappers. Myst has suddenly shown up to spend time with her daughter and while Bas and Myst are still attracted to each other, Bas doesnt want Myst in his or Mollys life. Bas soon finds out that Myst has been on the run from the brotherhood (A group of humans who want to destroy the high bloods) and desperately trying to stop a vision of the future that has her creating a weapon that will destroy the high bloods. We are taken on an adventure with Bas and Myst to stop the vision and the brotherhood. I enjoyed both Bas and Myst. Bas never apologized for what he was and what he was willing to do to keep his daughter safe. He isnt a good guy and yet he isnt a bad guy either but somewhere in the middle and I enjoy the complexity of those characters. Myst has had a tough life and doesnt trust easily. She is strong and yet at the same time doesnt have the skills/ability to take on the brotherhood alone. Neither character is shown as indestructible (which was great) and yet both are willing to do whatever it takes. I enjoyed the romance between the two although it happened a bit too instantly for my tastes and I wold have liked it to grow at a slower pace. The plot was interesting and although it was fairly obvious what the weapon was going to be by the half way point I still enjoyed it. I also loved the scenes between Wolf and Lana and cant wait for their book! Thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for gifting me this book in return for an honest review

Greater than one week3.5 stars! This is an engrossing tale that moved along at a very quick pace, a very easy to read book! It seems much shorter than it is. The characters are likable, I just wish we had more Bas, Myst and Molly. While this can be read as a standalone, I suggest starting at the beginning. I think I would have gotten more out of it had I been up to date with the series. After finishing, I am still not exactly sure what a High Blood actually is, other than it can be anything from a psychic to a witch. The plot was not as predictable as I thought it was as I was reading, or I at least half way predicted it. All in all, an enjoyable read, I just recommend you start at the beginning. > 3 daySo I totally rationed myself on this book, since I didnt know when the next Sentinels book was scheduled. I was lucky enough to read the other books pretty much back to back. I have to say, this is one of my favorite worlds. Alexandra does an amazing job of creating these rich, complicated and complex characters, and then surprises you every time. You meet Bas in Blood Assassin, where he should have been a Bad Guy, but in reality, just because he has flexible morality for many things, deep down, he is a Sentinel and understands what is important. Once again, the theme of the family make and overcoming less than ideal families is strong in this story. Myst is an interesting character. I wanted her to be silly and frivolous and selfish, but shes none of those things, even from the beginning. Together, Bas and Myst are able to find what they are looking for. And of course Molly, I hope to see more of her too. In addition to Bas and Myst, we get even more insight into Wolfe and Lana. Ivy did a great job of balancing both stories. I didnt feel cheated on either story. AND if we dont get Wolfe and Lanas story soon, ok I dont have threat, but I am hoping we will get it sooner rather than later!

> 3 dayAll Things Urban Fantasy BLOOD LUST is another excellent, bold, action-packed installment of The Sentinels series. I love when we are given the opportunity to see interesting side characters from previous books get their own book. For BLOOD LUST we get Bas, a mysterious assassin who caught my eye earlier in this series. I liked how there was a role reversal of sorts with the man being left with a baby and the woman leaving only to return some years later. Bas comes off as a very dedicated and protective father which is an interesting contrast to his assassin career. Myst, the mother of Bass daughter Molly, is a puzzle whos backstory is central to the riveting plot. The conflict the had to overcome in their relationship was obvious. Who wouldnt be upset if the mother/father of your kid suddenly reappears after leaving for years without reasons. Luckily they do sit down and talk out the reasons for their emotions and actions which seemed pretty realistic. And as Myst actually explained her reasons for being essentially a dead-beat mom I warmed up to her a lot and took back my dead-beat mom thoughts! Now, the book wasnt talking a dispensing of feelings. The plot revolves around a prophecy involving a humans-only cult who fear the powered individuals. As Bas and Myst try to rekindle their feelings they are thrown head first into a world ending plot full of close calls, twists, and tons of wonderfully tense moments that had me wondering if theyd make it in the end. In the midst of this plot Bas and Myst are able to rekindle their romance which was a touch too much of the insta-love trope. But they fit so well together that I didnt really mind. BLOOD LUST was a very enjoyable read filled with action, suspense, and romance.

> 3 dayIve never read anything by this author before this book, so I wasnt up to date with the previous novels in the Sentinels series. Nonetheless, the overall background story is pretty easy to grasp and follow. There is a lot of chemistry between Myst and Bad as well as an established previous history together that produced their child. I like the previous history aspect - it made the swooning &, obsessing over each other easier to believe. There are a lot of things going here between the base line romance, the High Blood political machinations and the Brotherhood plotting. The story moves quickly and the characters jave a variety of quite interesting magical abilities.

> 3 dayRating: 3.5 to 4 stars After book 2, I was really looking forward to reading more about Bas, our villain sort of from book 2, or at least not on the good side of Valhalla. His 4yo daughter was being held hostage, in book 2. In book 2, he just has gotten her back when the mysterious baby mama, Myst, pops back into their life. She has kept in psychic contact with her daughter all along, but Bas only knows she left and believes her to be a selfish person who didnt want their child. This doesnt actually turn out to be the case. Myst left because she believes her future puts high-bloods at risk via a prophecy. She gave her daughter to Bas to protect her. This prophecy is coming closer fast, and Myst and Bas join up to see if they change the future essentially. With that kind of plot, I expected to be on the edge of my seat but just wasnt. In fact, some of just dragged on and on to me, and I was completely bored. Not even tensions Wolfe and our lovely Mave of Valhalla could pull me out of that boredom. Myst and Bas? They were cute, but I kind of expected more from him after book 2. So, my final verdict is 3.5 to 4 stars. The story arc moves forward, they work as a couple, but it was a bit bland. I still look forward to whoever is next and really enjoy the series. My thanks to the publisher via Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book to read and give an honest review.
