I havent even used these pencils yet. Im actually quite afraid to because they are so expensive and they are much lighter than I expected too. ***update 2017*** After a year and a half of buying these, I decided to finally give them a try. I changed my 5 star review to 3 stars. Although they sharpen well, even the tiniest bit of pressure will break off the sharp tip, at least the leads dont break like prismacolors. They do blend with prisma which is great, however, I prefer prismacolors color variety over these. I dont feel that these lay down as smooth as prismacolor. Maybe its just me, or maybe I used these on the wrong type of paper (Bristol), but these dont seem like they are worth the very high price. I do advise watching YouTube demos of these pencils. I sure need to go back over a few to make sure Im using these pencils to the best of their abilities. Do t want to waste these babies.

I thought prismacolors were super smooth, but these pencils go on like butter. They are expensive, and don’t have a huge assortment of colors, but these are the cream of the crop.

Wow! These are the most luxurious colored pencils I have ever used. They are buttery soft and creamy and glide on paper without any effort. I actually bought them because I was tired of my Prismacolors constantly breaking in the sharpener and I was using a manual good quality one. Prismacolors are more affordable and have bigger color selection, however, a large part of pencil is wasted, so in the end they are not a good deal. And the wax bloom with Prismacolors was so annoying. I have not had Luminance pencils long enough to vouch for no breakage, but so far so good. And another reason to buy these pencils is their high lightfastness. I spend a lot of time on my drawings, so I want them to last for many years without losing color. I would have bought this set just for this reason alone. Yes, Luminance pencils are quite pricy but they are worth the high cost. After trying them I will never go back to Prismacolors again.

I truly love the colors, these are by far one of the best colored pencils out there.

I find these an utter pleasure to work with, especially due to effects achieved with the Luminances creamy layering and blending properties. The colors simply melt into each other, without losing the integrity and glow of the individual colors. I believe in painstaking use of multiple layers, but the results of layering even as few as three colors of these surprise me with each experiment. Lately Ive been enhancing earlier finished illustrations (in ink, watercolor and/or other pencils) with overlays of Luminance, and am thrilled with the resulting depth and vibrance -- my meh feeling about these earlier works has been radically transformed. As other reviewers have mentioned, the names of individual colors on the pencils are not easily read, but I personally dont find this an inconvenience, and the cap colors are true to actual colors. Certainly beautiful artwork can be made with less expensive tools. For myself, the unique qualities of Luminance add so much to my joy in creating art, Ive not regretted my investment for an instant. I thank other reviewers here for the thoughtful assessments that encouraged me to try them.

These are a wonderful set of pencils. Expensive - yes, but if you can afford them, well worth the money.

These and their watercolor partners, the museum aquarelles are a must-have for anyone wanting to do colored pencil art. These, Holbeins for pastels, and Faber Castells for oil based, and the three top brands for the most beautiful work one can do. I also like Derwent inktense for special effects. Derwent has some colored pencils made for detail work and Caran dache Pablos and Supracolors are great to have on hand too.
