Continental GatorSkin DuraSkin Tire

I bought this product because of its reputation...but just like that, it cracked on me.

I’ve never owned these tires before and after many recommendations I decided to buy a set. I was very surprised at how well they perform. Id expected sluggish performance as a sacrifice for puncture protection, but I was very happy with the performance and grip. Ran these (700 x 23) at 95psi. I highly recommend this tire as a great road bike tire. Edit: Did a 50mi group ride yesterday and had a flat on rear tire. Was riding a very rough road with plenty of small potholes at the time so it may have been that. And likely a small puncture from the side. Didn’t seem to be a pinch flat.

Best all around road bike tires. Use these for commuting and racing.

Good long lasting mileage.

I got these to replace the original (which was also largely without tread) and a replacement (which had a moderate thread) on my Specialized Hybrid bike. These are pretty much a slick tire without tread (although there is a small pattern which may provide a little extra grip). Very easy to install. I have found them very smooth (my average speed over a ride has increased by about a mile an hour) and still sufficiently grippy. I recently got some wrong information on a rail trail and was advised it was paved for 13 miles. It ended up only being paved for 1.3 miles (someone forgot the decimal point). The rest was gravel and dirt. I decided to stick with it since I had driven an hour to get to the trail. I was concerned that it would damage the new tires but no problem. Since they cost about 1/2 the price of similar Specialized tires I am so far very pleased.

I like these tires. Fit well and seem to have very good rolling resistance.

2013 Giant Defy 4 Road Bike bought used, needed tires; I bought Continental GatorSkin DuraSkin Clincher Bike Tires (folding) 2-Count, plus Continental Race 28 700x20-25c Bicycle Inner Tubes - 42mm Long Presta Valve - 2 Pack. The bicycle rides very smooth and much faster. The old tires were hard and the ride was jittery due to the old Gatorskin 23mm tires. The race tubes inside the tires make the ride very supple (folding 240 grams) 25mm tires absorb the rough surface of the streets. I would advise against puncture proof tubes that would make the tire combination too solid. This is as close to a tubeless setup without the price and tire-slip of a tubeless setup. Racing tires are too soft for street riding. The wire bead version of this tire is 315 grams vs 240 folding Gatorskins; tire unfolded very well; take care to keep the tube inside the tire during install; mine slipped once; check after inflating, deflate, then inflate fully.

The road bike tyres are indeed light, strong, fast, and tacky. It rolls well, grips the tarmac without issue, and fends off punctures. After any ride, being the set of tyres are so soft and tacky they pick up all granular dirt, sand, etc - perhaps change name and call them Geko skins - LOL. Continental Gatorskin tyres are great and performs as expected - smooth, quiet, fast, grippy tires - definitely my go to road bike tyres.
