12-06-2025Best watercolors Ive ever used. I pour the paints into half pans and let them dry for a travel watercolor set. Gorgeous colors, and pigmentation. This is a wonderful basic set for people upgrading their watercolors.

Greater than one weekI love Daniel Smiths Primatek paints. There is just a different quality to them, as they are made of ground semi-precious stones or earth. This introductory set is a great way to try them. I normally like to mix my own secondary colors, etc. however these are so unique & beautiful I use them as is. Im hooked.

Greater than one weekIm really upset with this product. I purchased this because I know Daniel smith is one of the best on the market and I wanted to treat my self to a nice little upgrade from my Cotmans. I found this online on Amazon and was really excited about the price since dickblicks was $38 dollars or so. But this has turned out to be such a disappointment. I dont think Ive ever actually given a two star rating. When I took out the box of paints the box was partially opened and when I took out the paints it came with two New Gamboge instead of one with Hanza Yellow. This is so upsetting because k really wanted to break the set in today since this is my day off but instead I cant of I want to return it for a new one. I even went to two Blicks looking to see if I can replace it with a new one and neither carried it. Im super upset and sad since I was really looking forward to using it. :( Instead I had to replace with a winsor yellow.

> 3 dayA split palette consists of primary colors: red yellow and blue, but split between warm and cool versions. This palette has five ml tubes (small but good for trying out) and the colors are Pyrrol Scarlet (warm red, replaces Cadmium Red.) Quinacridone Rose (cool red, replaces Alizarin Crimson) Hansa Yellow Light (cool greenish yellow, replaces Cadmium Lemon) New Gamboge (warm yelllow, replaces Gamboge no longer made) French Ultramarine (warm blue, reddish) Phthalo Blue Green Shade (GS cool, greenish Replaces the less stable Prussian Blue) Some notes: The New Gamboge oozed out of the tube, this is due to chemical properties of the pigments and binders. The other colors did not ooze out. The Phthalo blue is a beautiful almost turquoise blue and its VERY strong. Its pretty close to primary cyan. It will stain. It wont lift (come off paper with water in the brush) very easily. But its a gorgeous color. French Ultramarine is the only color that is one of the oldest originals in palettes and it granulates a bit. You can get any color mixing these six; youd only possibly add two more: Burnt Sienna (or Quinacridone Sienna) and either Yellow Ochre or Quinacridone Gold (warm, earthy gold.) or raw sienna, a more transparent version of yellow ochre. Of the choices, I prefer the quinacridones and raw sienna but its your choice. These eight make a perfect landscape palette. The Pyrrol Red replaces Cadmium Red and is less opaque. I prefer it over the old Cadmium Red likewise prefer Hansa Yellow to Cadmium Yellow Lemon or any of the cadmium pigments. Not sorry to see them go.
