Engineer SS-02 Solder Suction Device

...at least in my hands. I bought this to help with through-hole soldering on vintage tube amps. Some of the connections, even from the factories of well-known manufacturers can contain considerable blobs of solder. The good thing is that the little silicone tip can stand direct contact with molten solder pools without major damage. The bad thing is that a big blob of solder often stops up the mechanism, necessitating partial disassembly of the sucker. Taking the thing apart fairly often isnt terribly difficult, but its aggravating.

This thing is great, solid construction, great suction, and easy to clean, works well for its intended application. Like any solder sucker, it takes some time and practice to get it done well. This is no exception, but the soft nose tube really makes creating a seal so much easier and I often have a perfect result first shot. What I would like is a thumb hook to make resetting easier. I think I could adapt something, but I dont use it enough to bother. I understand why they dont have one, as this would cause some people to hate it. Probably just easier for me to push it against the bottom of the bench to reset it. Anyway, good luck to anyone finding something better for the price, if you do Id like to know what it is.

I tested it as soon as it arrived. Removed 5 of those little 4 pin tactile switches, an LED and a 5 pin connector. They all came off easily, and the LED fell out of the board. Cleans easily, one handed operation is a plus. Im probably getting 1 for work because its easier to use than the desoldering station there.

This thing sucks. I melt the solder and this thing sucks it up. Nice tool to clean up extra solder or remove old solder from a hole.
