My gecko loves his new hide

This hide was a lot smaller on the inside than expected. The plate on the bottom has ridges that take up space on the inside, so the outer dimensions are not a great indication of the size. My juvenile leopard gecko fits in here just barely. Otherwise, it is great as a humid hide because it retains humidity and theres no mess.

My Leo loves it. The fact you can pull the top right off makes it stupidly easy to clean and get my lizard out. Packaging was good, it feels pretty sturdy, and the material itself doesn’t naturally get cold like most rock hides. It tend to stay room temp which is good for having a hot hide. Good stuff overall, wouldn’t recommend it for any lizards over a foot though cause the hole to enter is rather small but inside, it’s actually rather spacious. That’s good news for my lizard’s comfort

I use this hide for my African Fat Tail. I put sphagnum moss in it and mist it down once a day. He loves it for his humid hide. No issues with shedding.

The small is very small and the large looked to big. But my baby leopard gecko liked the big one just fine. Glad I kept with the larger size as he has grown fast and would have already out grown the small one.

I have 4 leopard geckos living with me (3 of my own and a foster) and I have tried basically every kind of hide/cave out there. All 4 of them absolutely love these caves, I couldnt get the two oldest ones to use any other kind of moist hide but they popped right in to these. Toss in a little wet eco earth and theyre just happy as clams - my youngest one loves to dig in his.

Im actually using this for a juvenile rosy boa rather than a gecko, but it works great for him. Most of the time I dont use the bottom of the hide, but its nice to have it available to use if I want to make him a moist hide during shedding without getting his bedding damp.

First off, my gecko is a full grown, 14 year old male. Hes recently been having trouble lifting his back legs, and its most likely the beginning stages of metabolic bone disease (common in some reptiles, but can be prevented with proper care). I used to have a Zilla Medium Rock Layer for him, but that was way too small and cramped for a full grown gecko. And I honestly believe that the Zilla moist hide I was using before is part of what caused my geckos back problems too. This Exo Terra Cave is perfect for a COOL, MOIST hide! And its spacious inside for my gecko to turn around without hurting himself! If you use it as a moist hide, just be sure to spritz it often as the moisture will evaporate eventually. Its essential to have 2 caves for leopard geckos, one moist and cool, and one dry and warm. This one traps in moisture so its good. Dont recommend using it for a warm hide though because if you use a heat mat under the tank, it wont heat all the way through the tank, the substrate, and then the bottom of this cave too so it wouldnt get warm enough. I love this brand (Exo Terra) because their items are smooth (no sharp edges to file down, nothing to hurt your pets), easy to clean, and the shape of them is very well thought out so that these caves will be perfect for any reptile, amphibian, etc. The lid as shown is detachable for easy cleaning, and easy to spray to keep moist. The Pop Socket in the picture is for size reference. The entry hole is big enough for a leopard gecko and similar sized species. I wouldnt recommend for a ball python or snakes of that size because the entry is an O and the snake may get stuck if it is too big to fit through the hole. Could probably DIY and take off the bottom part of the entry though if youre careful. Sphagnum Moss is better for this cave, but Im all out so using moist paper towels for now. Its awesome, highly recommend it!
