Greater than one weekThis is an essential for ANY high-quality, hand-made wooden butcher blocks, cutting boards or counter surfaces you may have in your kitchen or dining room. The Boos Mystery Oil is used to moisturize the wood and help minimize the chance of warping, separating or de-laminating that can occur once the wood begins to dry out. It spreads quickly and evenly, penetrating deeply past the wood surface. To help seal the block/board/counter surface, the Boos Cream locks the Mystery Oil into the wood and helps heal the nicks and cuts caused by use. It helps repel all liquids, helping make washing and cleaning much easier as well. Both products are completely natural, yet contain no vegetable or animal-based oils to spoil or skunk, which could potentially give wood surfaces a rotten smell. You can find other products that do the same job just as well as these two, but as set a set, the price is very good and John Boos products are known for their quality. I have several Boos Block boards and just acquired a new Top Chop block (see pics below), which I used the Boos twins on as soon as I took off the plastic wrap. The Boos Mystery Oil and Board Cream quickly and easily conditioned my new Top Chop block and really brought out the beautiful details of its Walnut construction. This Boos set is a very reasonable investment to keeping the wood in your kitchen protected and looking its best...

Greater than one weekI purchased the oil and the cream. I choose this brand because I liked the name of it. Products arrived quick and in perfect condition. After cleaning my cutting boards and letting them try, I started with one layer of oil on each side and on the edges. I let it sit for a couple of hours and put on another coat. I ended up doing four coats of oil. They were in BAD condition and thirsty!! The last layer of oil I let sit overnight. In the morning I wiped the boards with a clean cloth to just pick up any extra oil. Then I applied a coat of the cream, again to each side and the edges and let that sit for 24 hours. In the morning I took a try cloth and wiped off the excess. I had a lot of time to kill so I didn’t mind waiting, but realistically you can easily do this is a day or two if you wanted. These boards were bleach white, faded, and looked to be in their last leg. After Boos, they look bright, shiny and feel smooth. There is no oily feel left on it. The cream goes A LONG way, so I am sure that will last me forever. I did use quite a generous amount of the oil for the four coats on the two cutting boards (one large board and one small) and still have almost a full bottle.

> 3 dayOnce a month, I oil and wax my John Boos Block, since its a really large cutting board, quite expensive, and its important to protect it and take care of it. The essential mystery oil goes on easily, penetrated the wood and wipes off nicely. Whatever oil theyre peddling seems to get the job done. The board cream (wax) was tough to work with. Its hard to squeeze out of the tube (and good luck getting it all out!), and goes on thick, with a lot of wasted product when you wipe it off and inevitably go through about a dozen paper towels before the surface isnt still noticeably waxy. I switched to Clarks cutting board wax with round applicator and I have a MUCH easier time applying a thin even coat with almost no wasted product. I highly recommend Clarks over John Boos for the board cream, but the John Boos cutting board oil is perfectly fine and inexpensive and should last quite some time.

> 3 dayThere are many such treatments to protect woods from splitting, cracking and drying out. Everything from food-grade mineral oil and bees wax to branded treatments. John Boos makes a very good cutting board treatment and kit.

07-06-2025Boos oil and cream works well. After slightly sanding with fine grit sandpaper wipe the dust away with a dry cloth. A wet cloth causes the tiny wood fibers to stick up. Instructions say to rub in the oil and leave over night then do the same with the cream. Then repeat this process monthly. Who remembers to do this monthly? I do mine every few months and the wood is still great after two years

> 3 dayWow!!! This stuff seriously works wonders. I forgot my cutting board even looked like this when it’s being properly cared for. Never going without this stuff again! Would definitely recommend getting the duo of the oil and cream.

> 3 dayI used this product to refinish my wood cutting boards. I have had them for years and they started to bleach, crack and just dry out. This product has made a huge difference in the durability of my boards. I highly recommend if you love your wooden cutting boards. I will say that, it is messy! If you are someone who doesnt like to get their hands oily and greasy wear gloves. I also have learned to be very generous with the oil and really give the wood time to soak it all up. Hope you enjoy it!

> 3 dayI love that the oil and wax comes in a set! I use both about once a month on my boos block cutting board and it definitely helps keep the board moisturized and prevents cracks.

06-06-2025In general it is a product which is worth your money, gives a delicate beautiful color for your board. Just be aware, it took a half bottle to soak 3 Zwilling bamboo boards: big, middle, small.
