I had one of the plastic 5 gallon gas cans for several years but it was such a pain in the butt when pouring gas. You had to pull on a button in order to push down on the handle to release the gas. I got fed up with it and bought this metal gas can. I should have bought this a long time ago. It is so easy to use and pour gas. While it costs more it is worth it. Best thing Ive bought in a while!

This can is supposed to vent itself as temp changes. A plastic can will expand in warm weather then cave in when temps drop. I bought this to prevent that from happening. I was wrong. This can did the same thing only did not go back to original shape. It caved in where the handle attaches to can. Now handle is bent. Still works well just bent. I would not spend the Money to buy another one.

This can works perfectly with no leaks when using it. The rubber is high quality and seals perfectly. Everything about it is high quality and you get what you pay for!

I am very happy with the quality of this product. The weight when full combined with the 5/8 nozzle made it a little hard for me to fill some of our equipment so I also bought the 1 (I understand the 5/8 is required for cars and some equipment, but I was using it to fill things like lawn misers with big openings). Thefill transfers fuel much faster, so if that would work for your use I recommend it over this 5/8 one. My husband filled both cans at a gas station a half hour away and I couldnt even tell that they had been in the car. We had been using the plastic containers, which made the car stink for days. I also hated to have to unscrew the nozzle, turn it around (getting gas on my hands) and try to get the nozzle in the lawnmower tank without spilling anything. This requires you squeeze a handle before the gas is released, the same idea as a gas pump, so nothing spills. It also feels much safer than the plastic tanks. The only downside of these versus the plastic is the weight. They do weigh considerably more. Once I add 5 gallons of gas they get heavy. I am very happy with these cans. My neighborhood is geeky enough that I have had some neighbors stop by to see our new cans. Every guy has said that their wife wants the same as they also are a little freaked by the safety issues of the plastic cans. Highly recommended.

    Greater than one week

Paying over $100 for a gas can because you’re tired of leaks and issues with the plastic ones, it’s really annoying that this one ended up leaking also. Pin holes have developed along the bottom of the can. It literally mists gas and I had to replace it.

-- Update 4/19/23 - I emailed JustRite customer service and informed them about my leaking 5 gal Safety Can and provided my Amazon order number. They were responsive and emailed me back asking for the stamped Id number from the can plus a picture of the leaky behavior. After that they arranged shipment of a replacement can per the product warranty. I am updating my review to 4 stars based on their responsiveness and low-hassle warranty replacement. I am knocking a star due to having to deal with a leak at all, but may bump it back up in the future if my 3 cans remain leak free. -- Update 4/15/23 - This year one of my 3 year old red 5 gallon Type II Safety Cans started leaking from the bottom. I had it in the trunk of my car for about an hour because I drove to fill up my cans with ethanol-free fuel for my lawn equipment. My car smelled uncharacteristically of gas but I didnt really notice the leak until I set the can down on my patio after filling the mower. At first I thought I must have dribbled gas down the spout onto the ground - after all these are premium lifetime cans and a leak is unexpected. I returned the can to the shed only to find the floor saturated with fuel the next day. Not very safe for a Safety can! These safety cans stay out of the weather in my shed so abuse is not the cause of the leak. Im disappointed to say the least. Im reducing my review to 3 stars because the cans are awesome when they dont leak, but they should never leak. Ill be submitting a warranty claim but in the meantime the leaking can has 5 gallons of fresh fuel that is leaking and I have nowhere to put it. -- Original review Its silly to get excited about a gas can. Unless you use one frequently. If you are tired of the overpriced, over-complicated plastic cans with their clumsy vapor locks, look no further than JustRite. I now have three of these cans in various sizes and doubt I will need anything else for quite a while. These are high quality, sturdy and pour and stop well. The only negative might be the spring strength on the lid, which can make it difficult to hold the lid open with your hand. Go ahead and buy it, you wont be disappointed.

These cans while expensive are so much better than plastic home center cans. They don’t leak and control gas flow with the valve. Most importantly they don’t have some cheap plastic safety mechanism that somehow always squirts gas out of the mechanism all over you (for safety of course, seriously 3 different plastic cans have done this to me one of which I just accepted before I found these cans and got regular gasoline baths for a year)

I love using metal gas cans, I’m not sure why they are so expensive. If you use them a lot you know why and can see how much nice it is over the plastic containers.

They are worth the extra money over a type 1 safety can. The large flexible hose is so much easier to use when pouring so you do not get stuff all over. It emptied in about the same time as the type 1 can, and it breathed fine even when holding at a weird angle to dispense. I guess folks don t want to spend the extra money on something better made. The only downside is the hose will probably get in the way when putting in my truck vs the type 1 can you can remove the funnel, but to me it is worth it to not have to find and clean the funnel when I pour. Ill still keep my type 1 can but my plastic cans are gone now.
