21-11-2024While most book lights for the Kindles have a clip and a swan-neck scoping out of it with a light attached, this is a more compact version that works equally well and illuminates the page but is more compact for travel. I have 3 versions of the Kindle and an ipad and it fits all 3. Better yet, there is no telescoping bendable neck that you have to mold into place each time you clip it on then reposition after you take it off and put it back on again because it would move if kept in a bag or suitcase or even during removal. This can stay clipped on and always be at hand when needed without getting in the way as my other lights have. It adjusts to the size of your e-reader, whatever it may be. And its apparently quite sturdy because UPS banged the heck out of this package and even put holes in it and it came out of the package unscathed. that is a good test for the airlines of how it will handle travel.

> 3 dayWatched the product review about the light and gave it a try. Glad I did! It is everything that the reviewer said it would be. Havent used the hi setting on the light since there is no need. The first setting is plenty bright enough and it covers the whole reading area of my kindle keyboard. I have tried so many other goose-neck clip on lights before for the kindle and they have always had a shadow and limited spray of light. Plus the clip on has always been rather bulky with the cover on. When the Kandle is clipped on there is no bulkiness protruding out by the cover being attached. The handy travel pouch is a cool feature as well. Small and compact enough to stash in my purse. A valuable tool to have when I wait in the car, reading at night, during my boys boy scout meetings.

Greater than one weekHi, I took a time to review several Kindle lights and general reading lights to try to make the best decision. My expectation is a good light that is small and portable, that the light cover all the kindles screen and doesnt be annoying, that it doesnt bothers my wife while she sleeps and I read (I dont want a light that illuminates my complete room, and to be a good quality and that doesnt costs half the price of the kindle. Kandle II filled my expectations, here is what I can point out: - Light has two intensities, which is great, some people may prefer more light or in some environments you may require it, or just your eyes. - I can easily clip it without removing or damaging my leather cover, also, has something in the clip to protect the kindle from getting scratch (pretty important) - You can set the position and direction of the light, which will allow you to point the light as you like it. - It doesnt illuminates all the place, it helps that you can choose how to position the light. - Is small and brings its own little bag to carry on. - The style is nice and is pretty similar to the gray Kindle, which is nice. - Comes with extra two batteries and a small screwdriver to replace them, that is nice as they dont assume you have one. - And the price is I think, just perfect. Im really happy with those $25 bucks I invested, I would recommend it.

> 3 dayThis little light is amazing! I just received mine yesterday and it really works great!! Its small I have to admit, but its powerful. The feel of it is so smooth and soft (really soft to the touch). Its padded inside the clip that clips to your Kindle so there is no fear of it scratching. You have 2 lighting options, low and high, and those little LED lights are BRIGHT. It lights up my page extremely well which I was very happy about. You can adjust the neck of it and the actual light as well. It comes with a really nice black pouch, batteries already in place plus an extra set. This is an awesome light for reading in low light areas, and my vision isnt the best which helps me a lot!! Kandle II and Amazon, you are always thinking one step ahead.

> 3 dayI use my Kindle a lot so when I wanted a light, I wanted one that would light the whole page, clip on easily and stay put when adjusted. So far, the Kandle II has met all my expectations. Not sure about the battery life. Ive only used it a few times but seems to be ok. I love the fact that it has 3 led lights and is wide enough to cover the whole page. It has 2 adjustments and 2 light settings which is nice for different seating positions. My only con is that it covers the on/off button on the top(I have a Kindle II), so I have to unclip it to do so, which means I forget to turn it off. But thats more of a me problem so I still love this light!

Hello Friend
> 3 dayI design high-end LED lighting, so I perhaps a bit biased. In any case, I am satisfied with the Kandle, but it has some obvious improvement areas. Lets start with the good first. The light is a very nice small size, perhaps the size of a deck of cards. Its quite light as well. The grey one has a soft touch type of paint that has an almost rubber feel. I think this is nice. It definitely feels a bit more high quality than if it were not painted in this way. The light is sufficiently bright for most any situation that I have used it in. Now for the bad. It uses three inexpensive 5mm LEDs. These are the kind you see on very cheap flashlights at your typical store checkout register. They look a bit different, because they are wide-angle, which is why they have a flat top to them. You absolutely cannot expect much from these LEDs. They are no more than a few cents a piece and have typically very loose design tolerances. They also have a very poor color output. They are very cool in color temperature, which results in a blueish, light. This perhaps is not as critical for reading text, but a warmer color temperature may enhance the perception that e-ink is almost real paper. Another problem with these LEDs and the wide angle (typically 110 degrees) is that stray light goes everywhere. The Kandle is not very good for use in bed, or an otherwise intimate setting since you will likely be lighting anything within a 10 foot radius. To get the most even lighting, you need to tip the moveable head up quite far, which only exacerbates the problem. The Kandle has two brightness modes which are, in effect, useless because the brightest is far too bright to use in most situations. Something I found distracting is that the LEDs are dimmed using PWM, which causes some high-frequency flicker that becomes perceptible if you are moving in relation to the Kandle (ie. moving the Kandle, or walking by it for example). LEDs can be dimmed with a constant current driver, which eliminates flicker, but adds some cost the the driver hardware. One last problem is the way the light clips onto the kindle. The clip mechanism just isnt designed right to hold onto the Kindle 3G securely. Obviously, you shouldnt be moving much while reading, but youll need to be cautious moving you Kindle around with this attached. It would be impolite to post a critical review without some suggestions. I have a few that I think could make this a really good light. First, improve the LEDs. Much higher quality LEDs are available, and should be used. The increase in cost would be negligible. In addition, adding directional turning film to the lens is one method to control the light leaking to the sides, while keeping a uniform illumination of the screen. This film basically squeezes the light into a more shaped pattern - long vertically and narrow horizontally in this case. A wider range of dimming especially towards the low end is badly needed. I dont like using this in bed in its current state. The clip needs a more aggressive, but sticky material. Improving the mechanism shape could allow the Kandle to hold much tighter. Adding a rechargeable battery to the Kandle would be great. If I had to charge it no more than the Kindle (which would only require a very small battery with these LEDs) I would be very happy. Im not too fond of replacing and throwing away batteries. I would also make the on/off/dimming button easier to press. The current design is a bit tough to use ergonomically when the light head is open. All things considered, this light isnt bad. It probably is one of the best out there, which is good, but say a lot about the state of Kindle lights. I would definitely recommend it, as most people will probably not be bothered by most of what I observed.

> 3 dayI bought this recently so I could stop bugging my husband with a lamp when I read after he goes to sleep. Its really great! It does clip on, which I didnt notice before I got it. Since the clip is so wide, I dont worry about it damaging my kindle like I did when I was using a regular book light. The light reaches all the way to the bottom of the page. The only thing I wish was different on it is that I wish it had a slightly dimmer setting. I think my eyes get sensitive at night, and it would be even less of a bother for sleeping partners that way. (I kind of assume a lot of people get them for that reason.)

> 3 dayIm not one to write reviews, in fact this is my first one ever, but I feel I must with a product as great as this. I was skeptical buying a book light at a hefty $25 price tag. But let me tell you it is absolutely worth the price. First off, the quality is fantastic. Im not sure about the other colors but this particular model has a nice matte finish which feel soft to the touch. The color also perfectly matches the kindle and they look like they were meant to go together. Next the size of the kandle is absolutely perfect. This thing is lite and I mean LITE. It feels like it has the same weight as a new chapstick. For something of its size its extremely thin. Unlike most other lights the clip is rather long horizontal instead of vertical. This ensures that it wont cover the screen on most e-readers. I imagine it would also work great for paperback books but I dont think it opens wide enough for thicker hardback books. Lastly, and most importantly the light coverage. Because the kandle has three, count them, three LEDs the coverage is even with no glare. With the mark II the kandle has two settings of brightness and I find even the lowest lights up the entire page more than sufficiently. Side note: The Kandle comes with an extra set of batteries and a nice soft pouch to store it in. These are only small things but it makes the experienced and product that much better. 5 Stars Well earned

> 3 dayI have used many personal book lights in my 60 + years of reading. Most of them were flimsy and poorly designed. As for lighting ones book page... mostly inadequate. I decided to try one more time when I bought my wife a new monochrome Kindle. EUREKA !! The Kandle II actually works beautifully at illuminating the reading area, it is well made and has those little refinements (e.g. auto shut-down)that please customers. In short, after many years I have finally found a book light that I can enthusiastically recommend. It is a truly 5 star product.

> 3 daythe brightness is crap! even on high. low setting is useless. too dim to read in the dark using just this light. i love the design - especially that it folds flush for travel and the graphite is a perfect match for my kindle 3 but it eats through the CR2032 (button cell) batteries and you need a mini screwdriver (supplied) to open up the battery door. very disappointed. perhaps if you dont like/need a lot of light to read by - because plenty of reviewers rave about this product - then try. but i dont like to have to strain my eyes. will have to try another type, perhaps the M edge light that uses AAA batteries (which are more easily available when travelling).
