Ive installed numerous TP-Link Kasa smart plugs and switches to integrate my home lighting with my Alexa Echos and Show 8 as well as my Ring doorbells and cameras. Im amazed at how well all these different systems work together. I needed an outdoor smart plug to control both some outside Christmas lights as well as a bird bath heater. This Kasa Smart K400 Outdoor Smart Plug works perfectly. Since the two outlets on the plug can be controlled independently, I plugged my heated bird bath into one and my Christmas lights into the other. I especially like the Kasa Android app, which allows you to easily set what time you want the lights to come on and go off. You can also set it to come on at Sunset (or a prescribed number of minutes before or after sunset) (similarly with Sunrise). You can set different times for each day of the week if you want. A very nice and easy to use app. Installation of the Smart Plug was also very straightforward with step-by-step guidance from the app. For my heated bird bath, I set up a routine using the If This Then That (IFTTT) app. I set the heater to turn on if the outside temperature drops below 35 deg F and turn off if the outside temp goes above 35 deg F. One thing to be aware of - the Kasa outlet must not be limited to Local control if you want outside apps such as IFTTT to work with it. For some reason, my outdoor smart plug reverted to local control and there is no obvious way to get out of this state using the app. After researching this on the web, the one solution that seemed to work was to assign the smart plug a reserved DHCP IP address on your home router. I did this and then reset the switch. All works fine now. Bottom line is this is a waterproof outdoor smart outlet that works well, has an easy to use and very flexible controlling app, and integrates nicely into the smart house ecosystem (at least with Alexa, Google Home, and IFTTT which are the ones Ive tried). I would gladly buy this again if I need another one.

I love the functionality that these provide. Easy to setup, configure and use. But this one lasted 8 months before crapping out. It had exposure to water, but it is outside and IP64... theyre using that rating loosely I think.

Got this to run some outdoor string lights. It was easy to connect via the app and Alexa. It will turn on the lights and dim them as expected. I dont really use the app but it seems ok. Alexa voice control works perfectly. Seems well built but if you it is out by the time you read this I would get the KP401M for the Matter support. But this works well enough on my current Smart home setup.

Update: Bought 2 of these about a week or so apart. 2nd unit failed within 6 weeks. Kept outdoors underneath a deck. It wasnt in any direct water contact. Re-ordered it. Lets see if my original lasts longer. Ive had the original Kasa plugs left outdoors that arent even rated for outdoor use last me several years in an enclosed electrical box. Hopefully it was just a fluke. When I came across this products page. I immediately got intrigued due to its ability to natively control dimming of dumb lights. I wanted it specifically for my outdoor string lights in the backyard. Well, i went immediately to KASAs product page and started a chat with support. KASA support gave me false information. They stated it does support dimming in SmartThings, Alexa, or Google Home. Only controllable via Kasa app. Well that agent was completely wrong. The plug controls dimming natively in all 3 platforms including the KASA app. I was able to setup routines in SmartThings (webcore) and Alexa that controls dimming functionality. All in all, this is a fantastic smart-plug to control outdoor lighting. And its outdoor rated.

My Christmas tree has over 800 incandescent bulbs and when I set up the tree in November over 80 bulbs has burnt out. Tree looks great and the wiring is tie wrapped to each branch so replacing all the lights would be very difficult. I wanted to dim the lights on the tree this year to prevent them from burning out. So, I used this plug-in lamp module and set the brightness level to 80%. The module ramps the brightness up and down on a schedule or voice commands to Alexa. Getting ready to pack up the tree and not one bulb has burned out! The ramp up and down and limit to 80% brightness worked. Next year I will not be spending a whole day fixing the little %^$&# bulbs.

Works good as a timer. There is no dimmer feature.

Works like in the description. I even have it controlled by alexa along with a routine.
