The first one of these I got didnt work at all. It would just make a clicking noise with a black screen. The replacement works fine, but is very inaccurate for measuring hardwood. I had some water damage to my 3/4 oak bathroom floor so i bought one to measure moisture as I dried it out. I had a floor repair guy out who had a professional model moisture meter so I compared the readings. The Klein ET140 would sometimes be within a couple percentage points but other times would be off by as much as 10%. I really wanted to like this device, but the accuracy is so poor that its not very useful.

We recently had a water intrusion in our house. We hired the pros to come in and do the dryout. Im sure this isnt the same grade tool they use. Theirs probably has some certification or something to justify the $800 or whatever price they pay for it. I dont care if this is off by a few percent or something... it told me the same spots were wet, which is what I care about. I cant tell you how accurate the numbers are, but this thing works. I just press it against what I think is a dry area to establish a baseline, then look for moisture. We are staying at my mother in laws, and there was a leak under a cabinet, and I was able to use it to test for moisture before putting things back. Very handy. I read another review where someone used it to test if their laundry is dry. Im going to try that next.

Bought this tool after the Texas Winter Storm in Feb 2021 that caused a burst pipe and flooding in the storage room below. With most plumbers booked until mid May, this tool helped me figure out which part of drywall was wet. Then I removed the drywall and used it to check the stud bays and sheathing. Sometimes on the surface, the material feels dry, but this device is able to distinguish the ones with higher %MC. Would highly recommend for DIYer or anyone trying to check for a leak behind walls. The battery isnt too great and lasted for about 4 hours of total usage (10 mins of checking per day over 3 weeks). IDK what the right expectation should be though

I have a chronic rain water problem in one exterior wall, it originates from either around a clerestory window or where the porch meets the wall. While I waited for the next rain storm, I thought I would see if this moisture meter works. I took a 1x2 foot piece of sheet rock and squirted about a third of the paper backing with water - not too much just enough to dampen it. After about an hour, I ran the meter over the plaster side around the area that I knew was dry and got a reading of 0% moisture; no surprise there. But as I moved to the dampened area, I got readings from 19 to 25 % moisture. The next day, I checked the sheet rock with a thermal imager and it indicated dampness around the edges and a couple of faint,I assumed ,damp spots - there was absolutely no visible or tactile moisture on either surfaces. I ran the Klein meter around the same areas, and the moisture meter showed positive in those identical spots. I was quite impressed. So, my conclusion is your sheet rock walls should be around 0%; this meter will indicate even the slightest bit of residual moisture.

I use this to test wood from the wood pile before using in our wood stove. I dont know about accuracy, but relatively Im sure its accurate. A heavy piece certainly shows high moisture content. Very light ones measure what I would expect. So Im guessing its accurate. But what is great is how easy it is to use. Just slide it over the end of a cut log and you can very quickly see the moisture distribution. If there is still a we spot at the center for instance, it shows up right away. Those I put next to the stove to dry for a day or two before I use them. This is really the best answer IMO for my use case. A probe meter may be more accurate, but I need quick reading across the wood. Probe meters dont do that. This does. Ive dropped it a few times, still ticking. Highly recommended. Would buy again.

After a contractor poorly installed windows causing water damage, I bought this to check the rest of my home. I found two more areas that didnt show any visible water intrusion. Both new areas had dripping wet insulation. Who knows how long they would have continued to get wet if I hadnt made this $40 purchase. Now with every rain storm I run this along my windows frames. Super easy to use and read. Its accurate as it matched the waste restorations $1200 meter.

Got this because we had moisture in some outer walls where sheathing bowed out. After sealing things I wanted to make sure it was sealed and see if some other hidden areas need work but it seemed like it either reported a low moisture level or excessive moisture with nothing inbetween. Also little context on results. Seems like it is meant for stored lumber and drywall rather than in-place materials but hard to tell if its doing anything useful.

Used for measuring moisture in my subflooring plywood after my water heater went south. Wood measured off the chart. Took close to 2 weeks to dry out so I could lay new new laminate. Nice not to have to use pins, just lay on floor and scoot.

Product received overnight. Packaging is solid and shatter proof. It is intuitive and very easy to use and read. It comes with a simple owners manual but there is no need to read it, as the product is user friendly. I recommend it.
