Great product. Could use a RJ45 female-to-female coupler in the box to connect the provided RJ11 plug to an Ethernet cable for troubleshooting Ethernet networks.

The speaker is very loud. The probe will pick up tone from a couple of feet away then be blaring when you touch the copper of the cable. It will pick up some cross talk so make sure youre hitting the copper. Ive use it daily on both shielded and unshielded with no issues. Works with previous models and other tone gerators. If you need a new tip its less than $10 on home depots website. Replacement Tip for Probe-Pro Tracing Probe Model #VDV999-068. My only wish is that the probe had a lock button or a push for tone button rather than always on.

It works. It does what it claims to do and it does it fairly well. The problem I have with it is that usually climb tools are better than the offerings from other manufacturers, and in this case their tool is not as good. The gold standard for cable toners is the 200EP, but the name of the manufacturer escapes me. There are tons of Chinese clones but the original manufacturer was always the best. The reason the 200 EP is better is because it includes a nylon loop which you used to hang it from the phone board youre working on, or anything anywhere so the strain is on the nylon loop instead of the cables are clipped to. The button on the inductive amplifier isnt a permanent on off button, its on when youre pressing it and off when you release it. Im worried this client tool, since its always on once you press that button, will turn on in my bag and start chewing up batteries. The 200 EP also has like 10 different tones built into it. This thing only jumps back and forth between two frequencies, it doesnt make fancy music like the other ones. It wouldnt take a whole lot to make this one of the best toners out there. With Klein just added the two features, or three that I mentioned, It would definitely be my choice for the toner I carry in my kit. Oh, and the cables on the 200 EP are much higher quality. And thats the proper name brand one Im talking about, the one thats made in America. There are a lot of Chinese clones of the 200 EP and they are all garbage. Also, it requires eight AAA batteries to run this damn thing. The 200 EP requires two 9 volts that last forever. So Klein, get with the program man! If you need some help just give me a call, I can steer you in the right direction!

Works good but toner probe has a problem detecting signal after about 100 feet . It’s the wand itself. I used my fluke wand on the Klein signal generator and works much better.

This toner works exactly as advertised. Lost power to several places in a house we recently rented. The landlord had three different people come to try and fix it. No luck. I hooked the toner up to the dead socket at the end of the line. Checked all the dead outlets, switches, and lights. Got a good signal at all. Started checking powered outlets in the general area. Found one with a signal. Turned off power disconnected wires and toned out to make sure. Reconnected wires to screws on outlet instead of back slide in connections. Turned on power problem solved.
