As others have said, can be extremely difficult to get the old cartridges out. Mine seemed like they were welded in place! I was afraid I might damage the sink by applying too much force to the wrench (faucet was moving in the sink). Here is what worked for me. 1. Disconnect the faucet from the supply hoses and pop-up drain, you will probably need a basin wrench to do this. 2. Remove the faucet from the sink. 3. Wrap plenty of duct tape around the thread pipes at bottom of faucet (to protect threads from damage). 4. Put the faucet in a vice in a work bench, held in place by the pipes wrapped in duct tape. 4. Try again with the wrench. Took a lot of force, but even without any penetrating oil both cartridges released and came out. New ones are a doddle to put in and dont need much tightening.

Ive ordered this twice, once from D P L and once from Amazon.com. I installed the cartridge received from D P L, and it is working just fine. However, D P L appears to be providing an aftermarket product rather than a Kohler Genuine Part. The cartridge received from D P L was packaged in a plain plastic bag, without label or instructions. Receipt was very quick via First Class Mail, and I needed that quick service for my leaking faucet. No spline was included with the cartridge and an 11/16-inch socket (possibly a deep socket, depending on your faucet) is required to install or remove the cartridge. The cartridge received from from Amazon.com was in packaging clearly labeled Kohler Genuine Parts and included instructions for installation. A new spline was included and a 5/8-inch socket (possibly a deep socket) is required to install or remove the Kohler cartridge. Im currently satisfied with either product, and may not know for years whether one or the other provides better service. D P L offers the best price if you dont need a replacement spline. Instructions for installing new valves (i.e. cartridges) in a two-handle Kohler faucet are available on the Kohler web site.

Picture looks like it is silver plated but it is brass. Cold side. Works well.

Works great. If you have trouble getting the handle off the faucet valve then wrap around 2 feet of duct tape the chrome handle base and use a channel lock pliers to twist them off. This works on my Koehler faucet.

The only part you can use to match the original Kohler equipment, so a good value here on Amazon, especially with Subscribe and Save, but 2 of of these started leaking after 5 years. Valves shouldnt go bad that quickly especially if they arent used very often.

This was to replace the cold water valve for Kohler faucet K454-4S-CP. It was a perfect match AND included the black spline to be used at the top for attaching the stem extender (87466). My faucet was crusted over badly, and it took some PB Blaster penetrant and time to loosen the gunk. I was too feeble to remove it with a ratchet wrench and needed a stronger person. Thankfully, the old valve was removed. If youre not able to remove the valve cartridge, youll have to buy a different models valve and casing assembly (Ultraglide). Hopefully, youll be as lucky as me and can preserve the old parts. I could not remove the old stem extender for two handles, and another handle had an ill-fitting stem extender. So, i bought new stem extenders to go with the new valves. If you mistakenly bought the wrong sides valve, you can modify it by removing the clip and changing the orientation. Good luck with fixing your leaky faucet.

Product as described. Harder to install than expected but thats based on the design and not the replacement part.

Fit fine but the old one was made with Brass and copper. This appears to be chromed steel or maybe stainless. I replaced the hard to turn unit with this, then soaked the old unit in vinegar overnight before disassembling, soaking parts in vinegar again to get the calcium out of the insides. Lubed with pool lube and re-assembled. Ill keep it on-hand to replace the next one that gets too difficult to turn. To rebuild, remove the clip and bow-tie stopper from the top, pull the washer off the bottom, and push the top down through the base. But unless you have extra time to do this, its cheap enough to just buy a new one next time. Use Teflon tape when replacing to make it much easier to take out next time. As others have noted, it really doesnt matter which side you buy. The only difference between hot and cold is a little bow-tie stopper on the top held in place with a clip. If you want to switch it, pull the clip and rotate the stopper 90 degrees. Pictures are of the old one rebuilt to show the clip and stopper.
