I have tried three different 4k monitors and this one is hands down the only usable one (probably the best under $400). Its totally compatible with my M1 Macbook Pro, and give good use experience when plugged in. Picture quality is really nice and I have nothing to complain about it.

Great color and clarity. Connects quickly and easily with my M1 Max Macbook Pro. I knocked off one star because the included USB C cable is pretty short and the monitor doesnt work with anything but the included cables. I tried 2 different USB C cables from Apple and a generic one and neither worked. I called LG and they said they dont make a longer one and that is the only one that works with the monitor. I use 2 of these monitors with my laptop so a longer cable would make it much more convenient to connect the one thats furthest away from the computer.

I bought this model LG because this is the model that I read that was used in a lot of Apple iMac models. I wanted a display that had excellent color accuracy since I do photo and video editing. The first one I bought was FANTASTIC! I could see that the colors, contrast, etc. were SPOT ON when comparing to my iMac 27. I give my first monitor 5 stars in all categories! I purchased a second monitor of the same model. I wish I could say the same. The second was HORRIBLE! I made sure the settings were the same on the new monitor as the first one and the picture quality was terrible. I promptly sent the monitor back. Im worried about buying another one and it being just as bad as the second one.

Per se, its a good monitor. Decent picture quality, very high resolution, sharp image (its 4K after all), easy to mount and set up. Huge panel with a lot of real estate which is always welcome. If you dont compare it with anything else, you will be quite happy with the monitor. BUT: I was expecting it to replicate the LG ultrafine sold on Apples website for me. I already have one of those monitors in my office and was hoping to have the same experience at my home office too. Same manufacturer, apparently same technology, similar specs, good to go, right? But its where the disappointment began. The image quality, the sharpness, the brightness, and the color delivery come nowhere near like that. Even the build quality is inferior: The plastic frame, cables, stand, everything feels less premium. I have no idea if theres any fundamental technological difference between the two panels, or its mostly a matter of firmware/software, but Id go for that Apple-overpriced ultrafine LG panel any day. MACBOOK PRO USERS BEWARE: This monitor has problems with MacOSs HDR. Right off the bat, its activated, shocking you by a pinkish downright garbage image quality once you turn on the monitor and connect it to your Mac. Either Apple or LGs fault, youll need to disable it to get a decent image profile. Thats all I came across through my hours of googling to fix it. (What? I didnt buy a half-a-grand HDR monitor only to disable it!!) VERDICT: Quite disappointed since I expected more based on reviews etc. Still debating between returning it - as much as I hate returning stuff due to the environmental impacts etc - and going for an LG ultrafine from Apple, or keeping it and trying to be happy with it. UPDATE (1 month later): Decided to keep it and give it time so it has a chance of growing on me. Im now quite used to the image quality. No big complaints anymore. The HDR problem with MacBook is still there, even after MacOS 11.4 update. No big deal though as long as you keep it off.

I connect this monitor to my M1 MacBook Air and it works great. I keep the MacBook in clamshell mode and it charges nicely while using the monitor. There also seems to be a battery health think going on because it will go down to 80% and then back up to 100%. I think this is Apple keeping the battery moving and healthy. Would not hesitate to recommend this monitor to those in my situation. The con is that the speakers are not great - they are OK. Other than that - wonderful monitor.

Purchased after reading a multitude of reviews for this model and the prior year versions of the same monitor. Went with this newest version. Out of the box connected to a 2020 13” MacBook Pro via the pass through USB-C. One cord- that’s it. I run the Mac on a vertical stand cover closed only using the new monitor as my primary display. No issues with the Mac running with the lid closed at all. Mac immediately charged fast over the included USB-C cord which was a big selling point for me- video and pass-through charging on the included cord. Out of the box the only settings I changed were to increase the brightness to full, increase the sharpness to full, enable the “Super Resolution”, and dial back the audio volume to 20. Unlike a lot of reviews, I found the adjustment joystick easy to use and intuitive. Took all of 5 minutes to adjust the settings, adjusted nothing on the Mac at all. Colors just plain pop. Graphics are crystal clear, tack sharp, and amazing. I agree with other reviews I dislike there is no audio control from the Mac keyboard like I’m used to, but it’s easy to get to from the joystick on the bottom of the monitor to adjust if needed. Audio sounds quite good for a monitor, can’t complain much about the quality. Music sounded just fine. I purchased to use for photo editing, not video, so audio is secondary to me anyway. Very large power brick, plastic construction minus the stand- which is sturdier than it appears. Tilt adjustment, height adjustment, very nice! Virtually no bezel- awesome. Very happy- great pairing to the MacBook. My previous computer was a 2011 27” iMac, and this screen blows that screen away- obviously technology has improved. Would purchase again for sure.

EDIT: There is On-Screen control for Mac users on newer models its just that LG kind of dropped the ball on making it easy for Mac users to find and install it. On LG.com go to Support, then Software & Drivers. Don’t use the search field they provide because for many model numbers it will say there is no matching product. Scroll down, click on monitors and search for your model manually. If your model doesn’t have a Mac download try the next closest monitor to your model. Also, worth pointing out is that 27UN850-W is the newest model and 27UL850-W is the previous model. They are both practically the same with very minor spec differences but the newest one is currently cheaper by almost $100. ---------- Heads up, their advertised On-Screen Control including Screen Split is not available to MacBook users with this monitor. In fact basically only ONE model is supported! And apparently according to other user reviews that one doesnt even have the basic functionality advertised. So just keep that in mind when purchasing an LG monitor if you are a Mac user. With that said, if that is not a deal breaker for you this is still an excellent monitor.

I purchased this after returning the Samsung M80B as it gave me a headache. This thing had perfect color (for my needs at least) out of the box. Pros: Easy to set up Tons of connections options Stand has the perfect tension for going up and down Picture looks great even if the blacks cannot get as dark as a VA panel Very easy on the eyes Cons: I dont like the control button placement on the bottom. I have a controller that I have to move every time I need to get to it Contrast is not quite as rich as the Samsung VA panel I returned Not a native resolution to my Mac Studio although I dont have the wallet for the 5k version

Upgrade to an LG UltraFine IPS 4K screen, delivering ultra HD resolution with supremely accurate colors, even when viewed off-angle. The 27-inch display offers versatility of USB Type C connectivity (60 Watt power delivery) plus the benefits of HDCP 2.2 compatibility, so it will seamlessly display 4K content from a variety of sources. Experience smooth gameplay with AMD FreeSync (used with supported video cards), virtually eliminating screen tearing and stuttering that occur as a result of the difference between a graphics card"s frame rate and monitor"s refresh rate. Dynamic Action Sync reduces input lag and elevates your gameplay, allowing you to respond to your opponents quickly. Keep visibility even in dark scenes—LG"s Black Stabilizer senses dark scenes and helps make it brighter so that you can find the enemies hiding and waiting to attack your player in the dark. *Software download required to enable OnScreen Control.
