Liquitex Professional Gesso Surface Prep Medium, 237ml (8-oz), Black

I am almost out of it already, I used this stuff like I drink water...it is a great surface prep...if you havent tried it try it now!

Perfectly preps canvas..what a difference from when you dont use it, even on supposedly triple-primed canvases!

During quarantine, several of my friends and cousins purchased paint by numbers to get together virtually and chat and paint. The paint-by-number canvas isnt always a nice painting recipient. I read a review about this product and went all in. I crisscrossed a layer onto the canvas to help the paint have something to grip. It has worked very nicely as Ive gone through the year with two different projects.

Overall, its a great product. So far, it dries quite evenly as long as you follow through with each brush stroke. My only criticism, if i had to pick one, would be the smell. I dont recommend using it in a confined or compact space; wear a mask or with a fan and good ventilation. From bottle to canvas, it doesnt go as far as I was hoping; but I think a drying retardant will do the trick without diluting or fading the color. That being said; i think this is a must-have for any intermediate or pro level canvas painter.

Mix with acrylics for dynamic underpainting

Great stuff for priming canvas. Best to use a rubber rib/scraper to evenly coat the canvas and use the gesso efficiently. It generally take two applications before youre ready to paint (which is normal). I was able to prime a 42x21 canvas and barely made a dent in the gallon of gesso. I highly recommend it for any artist wanting to save money by priming their own canvas instead of buying expensive store bought canvas in a limited size range. Happy painting.

Liquitex that is non-student grade is the best type of acrylic to work with. I am a full time art student, and only work with the best instructors who also recommend Liquitex!
