I’ve spent about 3 hrs getting this setup and I found out the hard way that it does not support WPA3 security. I have about 12 Meross smart light switches and they all support WPA3 so I had no reason to think that this plug wouldn’t. Surprise, it does not. Once I turned off WPA3 on my router the setup completed. I checked for firmware updates and it says that I’m up to date. I turn back on WPA3 and it loses connection to the router. This is probably the issue that most everyone has run into who said that it would not connect to their routers. Edit: A new firmware update to ver 4.1.33 makes this outlet compatible with WPA3. You may have to revert to WPA2 in order to connect to the device and update the firmware and then turn WPA3 back on.

Spent 1 hour trying to set it up with homekit. I setup tons of other homekit devices but this just doesn’t work. Also after reading about other users having to block the outgoing traffic either their routers (to Chinese server probably since it’s a Chinese company), I decided to go with another company. If you use their app, they also force you to login as signup (which is super shady and annoying). Don’t waste your time with this one .

This was very difficult to add to homekit. I did have success with the partner brand “refoss” indoor smart plugs (after forcing our eero network into 2.4ghz mode, adding to homekit (unsuccessfully), updating the firmware in the meross/refoss app, removing, resetting the plugs and then they added to homekit in the home app. I did not have such luck with this meross outdoor plug. I tried resetting the eero network, restarting the phone, ensured I was on 2.4ghz, resetting the plug each attempt, tried scanning the code, entering the code, and kept getting the error “unable to add accessory” “make sure your iPhone is connected to wi-fi, then try pairing again”. I was about to give up then tried adding the plug using the other person’s phone who has access to homekit in the home app. It added on the first try! So, if anyone is having issues adding to homekit, try a different device and try adding with the “primary” user in homekit (the person who first set up the home in homekit) -even if it says all users have the same access and you don’t have trouble adding any other homekit devices.

This is my third outdoor plug. I have them set up to turn lights on and off at sunset and sunrise.

This is what I have been looking for to augment my HomeKit setup without breaking the bank. I have other Meross indoor plugs and bulbs and although they are cheaper than alternatives, in my experience they work equally as good or even better. The device is a lot smaller than I had anticipated but works like a champ. Setup was effortless and connectivity to HomeKit is superb. I don’t really care about this since I only control the device remotely, but there is only one button for both switches - so something to consider for those who like to occasionally use the physical buttons. Also the rubber covers for the plugs may interfere with plugs that are a little bit larger, but I was able to tuck mine aside. The pictures look like both outlets are covered up on the house outlet but it’s actually the outlet cover that needed to be flipped around - once done it only took up one outlet.

It works as advertised, not issues.

I bought this in November to add to my portfolio of IoT devices, several of which are from Meross. It worked fine for a while but the Apple Home app will report every few days that it is not getting a response from this device. The Meross app, when this happens, can control it fine and reports wifi strength of 83%, and the other HomeKit devices are also fine so it looks like it is something between this particular device and the HomeKit Hub. Power cycling the plug restores functionality but it is a pain since the device is outside and is being used with automation.

Let me start with build quality. Its questionable. I ordered two. One came with an open crack between the two halves of the plastic body because the unit had not been assembled correctly. Fortunately, I was able to take it apart and re-assemble it. It is worth noting that there are no rubber gaskets or other seals to keep water out of the main housing. The two rubber outlet covers which were black in the product photos are actually yellow. They are very supple and seem to provide a good seal when inserted into the receptacles. (The only seal in the entire product.) However, when they are not inserted into the receptacles, they hang between the two receptacles from a very, very thin strip of rubber. It is not hard to imagine them getting accidentally torn off, but thats not even the biggest problem with them. It is almost impossible to plug in two cords at the same time because the products two receptacles are placed fairly close together and those hanging covers get in the way. You have to really pull the covers out of the way with some force to insert a second plug. It seems inevitable that the rubber covers will get torn off. If the designers had hung the covers in any other direction, this problem would have been averted. Similar products all get this right. Only meross gets it wrong. (Its worth noting that meross offers another version of this product—same model number but different housing—that does solve this problem...while creating another.) The biggest design hassle for me is the plug end of this product—the one that gets inserted into your AC receptacle. This is a product designed to be used outdoors. The designer should absolutely assume it is going to be plugged in inside a weather housing, yet meross drops the ball here too. The plug points down at a 90-degree angle. This means if you plug it into the top outlet, you cant use the bottom outlet. If you plug it into the bottom outlet, you cant close the door of the weather housing. If you want to use two of these units together, forget it. You cant. Attaching the cord to the plug at a 45-degree angle would have completely solved this problem. As is, there is no solution. So is there anything good about this product? Absolutely. It was easy to connect to HomeKit. Once you switch your iPhone over to the products ad hoc wifi signal while you set it up, everything works exactly like it should. And the product allows you to control each outlet independently. In fact, functionally, this product checks all the boxes. Unfortunately, its physical design is a deal killer.
