OK, folks, here’s a little comparison from my point of view of these two different pastels. The one on top is a Mungyo gallery oil pastel and it is what are used for most of the picture. It is, I think, satisfactory, especially for beginning to play with this medium and for someone who isn’t a professional. The first layers are don’t smooth and blend as quickly or as well as subsequent layers, but as the layers build up it blends quite nicely. I was using it at 72°, but I noticed that as I held the pastels in my hand and they warmed up, they worked much more nicely. They did, however, pill up just a little bit. By contrast, the Sennelier pastels are a dream. I bought a sample pack of primary colors for $13 from Amazon just to see how they worked. Even touching the pastel itself is different. They are somewhat moist to touch, definitely tacky as opposed to the firmer touch of the Mungyos. They blend smoothly and more quickly and lay down color a tad more quickly. The Senneliers are a bit smaller than the Mungyos, too, but there’s the very real possibility that you don’t have to use as much of them because they apply the color better. I have used them enough to tell. The six pack of Senneliers was about $13 from Amazon. I’m glad I got the cheaper option to start with, but if I stick with this medium long, I’ll save up for the Senneliers.

I dont recommend anyone to buy this since its not non-toxic. Buy the one that has AP and CE logos.

Ive never used oil pastels before so I dont have any thing to compare them to. However from my experience they are creamy, vibrant and easy to blend. I use paper stumps for blending and they work great. Some people complained about them shredding, I found that it happened some if I pressed too hard. Otherwise it didnt. I feel if you are just starting out with oil pastels, this is a good product to start with.

Very smooth, easy to draw with! I reach for these just as much as my other, fancier sets. These are a fraction of the price and just as nice! Color selection is great, all 48 are included in the picture.

I bought this set because of the different colors it had. Mungyo Gallery set of 48 assorted color soft oil pastels, for $20.98. It arrived in a box with a lid and each oil pastels in their own individual place in a plastic tray inside of the box. The whole box slips into another cover box. They arrived in an amazon box that had the bubble wrap to protect it from slipping around in the bigger box. The Oil pastel box itself was cover tightly with a plastics wrapping to keep the box itself from opening. They are bigger than a regular crayon which is nice. They look to be clean. The go on to the paper smoothly. They blend well. Cant wait to use them and try them on various type of paper as well as blend them with different techniques. I would recommend these. They are very nice and of good quality. For $21 dollars with a variety of 48 assorted color I would say that it is a reasonable price to pay. Anything more would be too high. Unless it has double the colors. I believe this is a well made product. It doesnt smell like some brands. An I would highly recommend this product to not only beginners but to seasoned artists. Great for any Artists workshops/studios. Great product. Thank you.

I have pastels as cheap as Crayola and as expensive as Sennelier. Mungyo pastels are a perfect in-between, a bit firm but soft and smooth enough to spread easily with a Q-tip (which I prefer) or your finger. Theyre great for beginners because they make it easy to get favorable results with lesser skill. Not everyone can make Crayola pastels look amazing like BlackbeanCMS. So, these are a great way to start. Theyre super fun to use! I strongly recommend them. I first got them under the Hashi brand (in Japan), which are the same pastels in a different box for some reason, and I was so impressed that I ordered these from the States to be sent to me in Japan. So, that should tell you something about how much I like them.
