I am very disapointed in this product. There was not information as to how to install this unit on a MAC , even though Amazon charged me more for the MAC version. I had to wait almost one hour for NEAT customer support on the phone and the operator said this is a major issue with the product. Not MAC disk, No MAC installation instrucitons, Nothing even on the NEAT web site. PC product cd codes are no longer in use according the NEAT on the CDs they sent me.

I bought this product, and instead of a new scanner, what I received was a PREVIOUSLY USED and DEFECTIVE scanner that was placed in new packaging, and shrink-wrapped to appear as a new product. This scanner even had somebody elses receipts entered into the software that accompanies the product, including all of the personal information from the prior owner of this device. The scanner never worked from the first time I tried to use it. My big mistake was not opening and trying the product immediately when it arrived, because the thirty-day window in which you can return a purchase had just expired before I realized what I was up against. I am still holding out some hope that this company will provide a replacement scanner, after hours and hours with their so-called technical support. Under anyones definition, this company has engaged in fraudulent behavior, as well as violation of privacy laws. Buyer Beware!

Like any portable scanner, you must carefully guide the paper through. But the software works fine and its convenient to use. Ive started using my full-size scanner more when there are lots of documents to scan but this is fine for casual on-the-go use.

I purchased the Mac version of this thing after someone told me that the 5.5 software version was actually useable. Well, the Mac version only goes to 4.1, but I understand there could be a different version scheme for Mac and Windows. No big deal. However, the Mac software is crap. Im running Yosemite on a 1 year old fully speced out iMac. Theres no issue that my hardware isnt up to the task. I tried to install the Neat software off their included CD; it crashed. I downloaded the latest software from their site, ran the installation and it crashed too. I tried again and was able to install the Neat software. Cool. I opened it up and tried to watch the introduction video. It wanted Flash. Ok, not really secure, but what the heck. After installing a new version of Flash, it still wouldnt play. So I found the video on YouTube and watched it there. Its almost entirely a commercial for the product I just bought, so pretty useless. I decided I was going to calibrate the scanner before I started on the pile of documents I wanted to scan. Open the Calibration window? Crash. Great, try again. Did it calibrate? Well, I have no idea if it calibrated or not because it crashed again. Fine, lets try scanning some documents. I did an ok job, but not as sharp as my 2 year old, 80 dollar Epson all-in-one flatbed scanner. I turned all the sharpness setting to max, and still not that great. Whatever, itll be good enough. Twelve scans in it developed a solid black line about 4 mm in width, running the length of the document that appeared in every scan. I took out the cleaning cloth and tried to run the cleaning program. Crash. So Im left with a $100 scanner that wont scan, software thats not intuitive (seriously, how do you edit the description field?!) and constantly crashes. So like my Mama always said about my girlfriends, you dont keep trash. I sent this thing back. I dont have a better scanner suggestion for you, but take heed of my pain and dont waste your time on this junk.

The scanner itself does work decently. That being said you had better hope you dont need any customer support or have any issues like we did. Before you read further if you are just planning on using it as a scanner it will work fine. If you plan to use the additional features continue to read. We bought it for both the scanner and the additional features which is why I rated it at a 2/5. 1) The NeatCloud never worked and as a matter of fact deleted all of our contacts. We asked Neat to help and after 15 business days still have no response other than please check to ensure your scanner is plugged in. 2) The Neat company charged us twice for the same neat cloud feature in a matter of 3 days. When I called to ask why the billing representative said I dont know and we are not authorized to reverse charges 3) Technical support said We arent sure our developers will try to figure this out. We have no timelines as we dont have a large development team In summary, I promise there are other solutions out there that work just as well with better support. Again if you dont plan on using any of the features of Neat then the scanner itself will work for you. If you plan on using NeatCloud, Mobile, etc look elsewhere.

I really wanted to love this product. I have been seeing the ads in magazines for a while - the little white machine with orange advertising. I was sold. I finally ordered it one day and followed the instructions. Calibrated and then ran a test scan with a form I needed to scan. All I got was weird spots. Tried to calibrate and trouble shoot. But gave up. I am a Mac user and I am used to being able to troubleshoot things after 2-3 tries. I emailed customer support and I got no response. Was really hoping for it to be awesome. I have to say I am really sad. Worst - I dont even want to bother putting it back in the box and returning it to Amazon. Am I alone?

So a good friend of mine who is a producer/ DJ told me that I needed to be up on this Neat scanner & Id always wanted one so I decided to take him up on it. Im actually happy I did. The quality of the scanner is fantastic... I actually dropped it a few times now on a hard wood floor & it hasnt broken yet which is a big deal for me. The quality of the scans are good also & installation for my compy (MacMini) was simple & super easy. I ddint have a CD drive though so I had to go to Neat.com to download the software. Scanning receipts is also extremely easy as is the organization set up in the Neat program. The ONLY issue I had with this is the number recognition which Ill get into below... Most of the time this scanner seems to get all of the numbers just blatantly wrong. A 6 will be an 8, a 1 will be a 7, or a 5 will be a 4. It seems to really depend on the FONT the receipt is written in. Long receipts like Best Buy for instance it will always get wrong. Completely abandon the idea that this thing will read your chickenscratch you call handwriting. All restaurant receipts will have to be entered by hand. Which, to Neats credit, is amazingly simple & not very time consuming at all. After a while because not many receipts are read the right way, you get used to it. Whats upsetting is that when this thing does it right, the whole process from feeding the paper into the machine to moving on to the next item, is less than 30 seconds. Most of the time though, if youre thorough & adding the business name & taxes paid ect... that turns into 1:00 of time easily. Im an actor & a DJ. I can write off QUITE a bit so even if this thing doesnt get it right all the time, it still saves me TONS of time because of the sheer amount things I can write off. The sheer fact that this thing will allow me to throw away all that paper is a blessing. The only place where Neat can improve this scanner is the resolution to be able to scan numbers more clearly. Besides that, not a bad effort at all.

I bought this to get myself organized. The software is great (once you figure out how to use it, which isnt easy). The scanner works well with heavy paper such as business cards and some checks, but is virtually impossible to use with thinner paper, especially letter size sheets. I have yet to get a single piece of paper to feed straight. No matter how meticulously I align the paper, the scanner will twist it and turn it so by the time it is half way through it is at a 30 degree angle. It comes out twisted and the resulting scan is distorted. It installs easily, but is impossible to use. About every third or fourth scan, it will no longer feed or if it does, the software will say that the scan cannot be completed even though the entire document has been fed through the scanner. The only solution I have found is to quit NeatWorks, unplug the scanner, plug it back in, and then restart NeatWorks. Then after three or four scans, repeat this process. Obviously the hardware has lots of bugs that the company needs to fix. The concept is great, and I had high hopes for it, but clearly it is going to require way too much work to scan most documents. Instead of being a time saver, it has become a time waster.

Wow, what an excellent idea. A scanner with software that recognizes and does a pretty good job of categorizing receipts while recognizing which line represent taxes on the purchase, etc. The problem is that, at least on the Neat for Mac version, YOU CANT DO ANYTHING WITH THE SCANNED RECEIPTS AFTERWARD. On the PC version you can then import the data into Quicken or Quickbooks. Not so on the Mac version. There is no way to do it. Message boards on tech sites (and Neats site) are full of complaints about it. If you go to Neats support website you get weak apologies and no clear answer on what they are doing about this unbelievable oversight. Yet they STILL on their website list Neat for Mac as being able to export to Quicken, etc. That seems shady to me. So, there you have it. A bunch of scanned receipts and nothing whatsoever you can do with those receipts afterward in terms of importing the information into an accounting program. You might as well have used your old scanner and some cheap scanning software, because youll end up with the same thing: a bunch of pictures of your receipts. Dont let yourself be used by the Neat Company. If you have a Mac, run away from Neat for Mac.

The listing said this item was like new... I have to disagree. First, the scanner was discolored, almost as if it had been sitting out in the sun because of the yellow tint it has now. Second, each and every scan Ive attempted has a thick black line running down the left side making it extremely annoying to read any information... I just got the damn thing and even after a long and tiresome troubleshooting period, I can only assume I was sent a defective product.
