I know it costs more for a MAC user than a PC user, but totally worth it. Youre paying for the peace-of-mind that it works on Mac. Software works great -- has cool database functions. Spits out PDFs easily. Good for taxes! Works on my MacBook Pro (Intel) 2.6Ghz .

I bought this to get myself organized. The software is great (once you figure out how to use it, which isnt easy). The scanner works well with heavy paper such as business cards and some checks, but is virtually impossible to use with thinner paper, especially letter size sheets. I have yet to get a single piece of paper to feed straight. No matter how meticulously I align the paper, the scanner will twist it and turn it so by the time it is half way through it is at a 30 degree angle. It comes out twisted and the resulting scan is distorted. It installs easily, but is impossible to use. About every third or fourth scan, it will no longer feed or if it does, the software will say that the scan cannot be completed even though the entire document has been fed through the scanner. The only solution I have found is to quit NeatWorks, unplug the scanner, plug it back in, and then restart NeatWorks. Then after three or four scans, repeat this process. Obviously the hardware has lots of bugs that the company needs to fix. The concept is great, and I had high hopes for it, but clearly it is going to require way too much work to scan most documents. Instead of being a time saver, it has become a time waster.

This is not the top of the line, high end, high performance piece. It is a lightweight, compact unit that efficiently scans up to an 8.5x11 sheet. If you need something more, than perhaps review your needs, before you buy. I had one of these for a few years, it had been knocked around as we moved cross country and back and it finally quit. I bought another one! Like I said, for the money ya cant beat it. The Neat software is user friendly. It is not very fast, so if you have many documents to scan on a consistent basis, you may want to look into another product. It will take maybe 5 min to scan in 10 pages. For my application that is ok, you may need something faster. It would take quite a bit of time to scan in many pages with this unit. I use this little scanner to get documents into my computer and then email the docs or file them. No need to keep a fax or internet fax, i scan and use email. This one does the job just fine. I have had flatbed scanners, all in one print-scan-fax, and this one does just a good as the expensive models, although slower. One drawback is that that is does not handle legal size documents. Only up to 11 inch long. So that may be an issue if you have the need to scan legal size. Otherwise, if your need is to scan into your computer a document 8.5 x11in or less, are not in a tremendous hurry, and file the doc or email, message, print, or whatever, you should be very happy with it.

Despite the information on Amazon stating that this product is compatible with OS 10.4.11 it is not. When attempting to install the software I received a message that it could not be installed. After contacting Neats customer service via email (the only available option) I received a download for an older version. After downloading and installing the older version I plugged in the scanner only to have the computer unable to see the scanner. After another email to Neat and waiting 2 days for an answer due to a weekend I was notified that this scanner is not compatible with the old software and I would have to upgrade my operating system. I would have thought they could have told me that in the first customer support email where I clearly stated which scanner and operating system I had. At a cost of $100 I upgraded my operating system to Snow Leopard (which I had wanted to eventually do for other reasons this just made me do it sooner). After the upgrade and installing the supplied Neat software I could see the scanner. However it was ignoring the sales tax part of the receipts. After reading comments I realized I had to download the software update. After downloading the update be aware you need to turn off the scanner and restart the computer otherwise it will scan receipts but not documents. Now that I have it all working I do like the scanner. I just wish Amazon had not shown it to be compatible with OS 10.4.11 which would have saved a lot of frustration.

This is the third different make of scanner I have purchased and for the purpose of records keeping it is the best. It is fairly accurate in reading and placement of my required data. Since I have had it 2-weeks, there have been several updates and improvements in the operations that you can choose to do. I would recommend this to any Mac person who wishes to be able to quickly log and retrieve information from their documents or receipts.

Excellent item! The reviews seems to be 5 star or 1 star, but look at the dates of the 1-star reviews. Most of them are from 2008,2009. In 2008 phones were still used mostly for making phone calls. Obviously Neat Company have made huge strides in the technology and software since 2008. Im an IT consultant and travel almost every week. Invariably, I will lose one or two receipts by the time I get home. With this, while on the road, I can add the receipts to my laptop when I get back to hotel, and already have made my money back within a month. Great that it reads the receipt and fills in most fields(not a 100%, but considering the millions of different type of receipts, what product could?). Anyway, for the ones it does not pre-fill the information, takes me literally 5-7 seconds to do it. I thought the $225 price(bought a case) was steep, not a single regret about the price. Probably what really makes this product work is the software, taxes will be much easier to do next year. I have two regrets 1. That I spent $125 about six weeks ago for a VuPoint Magic Wand Portable Scanner 2. That I havent purchased the Neat Desktop Scanner(yet)

This is a great little scanner. Emphasis on the Little. It is about the size of the remote to my TV. That is the first part of what I love about it. The other bigger Neat Desk scanner is very cool in that it scans 30 Pages Per Minute. I prefer this little one as, instead of a whole bunch of scanning once a week, it is small enough to keep handy on the desk at all times. Every time I get a card or receipt I simply scan it the moment I get back to my desk. The software aspect of the system works great. I am on a Mac and the integration with Address Book works very well. If you are just a bit diligent and scan each day this little system can significantly reduce paper clutter as well as keep you very organized. Just being able to export quick and easy expense reports with scanned images is a great boon. I highly recommend this whole product suite.

Loved this at first but turned out to be junk. I have had it for almost 2 years and I only use it around tax time. It sits in a desk drawer and has very few hours on it. The first year the software lost all my scanned receipts after I did the recommended update. Hesitant to update again, a few weeks ago, I did after it could not locate my files. After the update my scanner started scanning black pages. Technical support logged onto my computer and tried to fix the problem. Conclusion: your scanner is broken and you need to replace it. So for $200 you can buy a scanner that doesnt last 2 years.

NeatReceipts is a good idea nicely packaged, but the product simply doesnt live up to the sales pitch. The software is limited and buggy, and when something doesnt work, support is -- as others here have complained -- just not there. Early in my experience with the product I found that data I had entered was regularly disappearing. Id close the program, and on re-opening later, it would be evident that scans and hand-entered data had never saved properly or had otherwise been lost in the programs processes. I made an inquiry with Neats tech support and received a reply inviting me to explain what Id experienced in more detail. I did that, and then I waited. After more than a week I sent a message asking if any assistance was forthcoming, and then waited again. After about three repeat inquiries over a period of weeks, I gave up. I have never received any further reply. The scanner itself is cheap but not useless. But I find that 8.5 x 11 docs have to be re-scanned about 25% of the time, either because the scan came out crooked (no correction of edges can be made once the paper is scanned) or because the program simply doesnt capture the scan. I would like to be able to give a more positive review. Im continuing to use the product in a limited way, with hopes that the company will eventually make it more reliable and complete. But I cannot recommend buying it.

This is a useful tool to stay organised. It does not always recognise the totals and other fields automatically so a lot of manual editing is required. Different receipt formats stump Neat. The soft ware should allow the user to recognise the different types of receipts. The promise of excel lists is not quite as advertised. This should be automatic. The software should also be more international , currently its set up for American tax only and oct is not multi lingual. You can however change and add new fields so with a bit of work it will be useful. Overall once you have adapted the software it will be useful and just to get my receipts saved and logged is worth it. Completely automatic it is not. May be in the future Neat will update the software to allow the user to teach the software to recognise and remember different receipt formats. May also in the future it would be good to be able to switch with between excel and neat files at the click of a button.( just a suggestion)
