Greater than one weekPoor technical support team. I purchased the product at 2015 May. Two years now, the company want to promote its cloud software service, stop to support the hardware software. I bought a new computer, but once I installed into the old one. Even I uninstall the software from the old computer, I could not allow to transfer to a new computer. And I could not get a technical person to help me with the software installation. They repeat and repeat say the company policy. Dont like the company to push customer for paying more and more. I am going to look for other solution for this product.

> 3 dayI very hesitatingly bought this product considering that I have a scanner as part of my printer. However I have used this more often since I purchased it than I have used my regular scanner. The portability has allowed me to take it with me all the time and I feel my efficiency has gone up several fold because of it. I would strongly recommend this to anybody needing a regular scanner plus portability.

11-06-2025After various attempts to tame the mounds of paper that threaten to engulf my office, this package has the best chance. The scanner is a thing of beauty in itself. The software is very, very stable (Readiris take note) very cocoa yummy, mac OSX friendly. There is a capability to produce SEARCHABLE standalone OCR/image pdfs independent OR file within the neat office ecosystem, which is excellently designed, and probably the best way to manage receipts. In truth, the OCR is only about as good as anyone elses, so that means that receipt or business card scanning still requires quite a lot of hands on manipulation. That said, its stable (did I mention that?), the data management is elegant, receipt scanning/analysis is still reasonably efficient, and Ive been able to pressgang my 12YO into handling it.. in lieu of her running wild with my itunes account. Neat appear to have a commitment to upgrading the software - my WISHLIST for future development includes: Evernote integration (Im sure they are working this as I write) Batch applicable editing (eg Tags, categorization etc Tonal adjustment of scans (to reduce background noise and cruft) TWAIN for third party image photoshoppery (assuming this doesnt exist somewhere already) Generally smarter OCR. But all in all, this (after a seriously disappointing experience with IRiScan and Readiris), is the first practical solution Ive experienced. Incoming paperwork that might be needed is efficiently scanned, OCRd, and recycled.. (now coming to an egg carton near you). Neat is highly recommended.

> 3 dayI purchased the Mac version of this thing after someone told me that the 5.5 software version was actually useable. Well, the Mac version only goes to 4.1, but I understand there could be a different version scheme for Mac and Windows. No big deal. However, the Mac software is crap. Im running Yosemite on a 1 year old fully speced out iMac. Theres no issue that my hardware isnt up to the task. I tried to install the Neat software off their included CD; it crashed. I downloaded the latest software from their site, ran the installation and it crashed too. I tried again and was able to install the Neat software. Cool. I opened it up and tried to watch the introduction video. It wanted Flash. Ok, not really secure, but what the heck. After installing a new version of Flash, it still wouldnt play. So I found the video on YouTube and watched it there. Its almost entirely a commercial for the product I just bought, so pretty useless. I decided I was going to calibrate the scanner before I started on the pile of documents I wanted to scan. Open the Calibration window? Crash. Great, try again. Did it calibrate? Well, I have no idea if it calibrated or not because it crashed again. Fine, lets try scanning some documents. I did an ok job, but not as sharp as my 2 year old, 80 dollar Epson all-in-one flatbed scanner. I turned all the sharpness setting to max, and still not that great. Whatever, itll be good enough. Twelve scans in it developed a solid black line about 4 mm in width, running the length of the document that appeared in every scan. I took out the cleaning cloth and tried to run the cleaning program. Crash. So Im left with a $100 scanner that wont scan, software thats not intuitive (seriously, how do you edit the description field?!) and constantly crashes. So like my Mama always said about my girlfriends, you dont keep trash. I sent this thing back. I dont have a better scanner suggestion for you, but take heed of my pain and dont waste your time on this junk.

> 3 dayI have a stack of receipts - say 12 inches high and needed a way to scan them in. I thought this would be easier than typing them in. Well, it scans them BUT most of the data does not go automatically into the right buckets and you cannot read the scanned image of the receipts. So for EVERY receipt I am wasting time scanning in, editing all the missing fields and honestly I would have been better off just typing them all in anyway. Also, at least in an Excel or Numbers spreadsheet I can add all the fields I need for describing the receipts. You are limited to fields in the receipts database of the software. DO NOT think this was worth the purchase price. Would have sent it back but used reward points to buy it.

> 3 dayExcellent item! The reviews seems to be 5 star or 1 star, but look at the dates of the 1-star reviews. Most of them are from 2008,2009. In 2008 phones were still used mostly for making phone calls. Obviously Neat Company have made huge strides in the technology and software since 2008. Im an IT consultant and travel almost every week. Invariably, I will lose one or two receipts by the time I get home. With this, while on the road, I can add the receipts to my laptop when I get back to hotel, and already have made my money back within a month. Great that it reads the receipt and fills in most fields(not a 100%, but considering the millions of different type of receipts, what product could?). Anyway, for the ones it does not pre-fill the information, takes me literally 5-7 seconds to do it. I thought the $225 price(bought a case) was steep, not a single regret about the price. Probably what really makes this product work is the software, taxes will be much easier to do next year. I have two regrets 1. That I spent $125 about six weeks ago for a VuPoint Magic Wand Portable Scanner 2. That I havent purchased the Neat Desktop Scanner(yet)

> 3 daySo a good friend of mine who is a producer/ DJ told me that I needed to be up on this Neat scanner & Id always wanted one so I decided to take him up on it. Im actually happy I did. The quality of the scanner is fantastic... I actually dropped it a few times now on a hard wood floor & it hasnt broken yet which is a big deal for me. The quality of the scans are good also & installation for my compy (MacMini) was simple & super easy. I ddint have a CD drive though so I had to go to Neat.com to download the software. Scanning receipts is also extremely easy as is the organization set up in the Neat program. The ONLY issue I had with this is the number recognition which Ill get into below... Most of the time this scanner seems to get all of the numbers just blatantly wrong. A 6 will be an 8, a 1 will be a 7, or a 5 will be a 4. It seems to really depend on the FONT the receipt is written in. Long receipts like Best Buy for instance it will always get wrong. Completely abandon the idea that this thing will read your chickenscratch you call handwriting. All restaurant receipts will have to be entered by hand. Which, to Neats credit, is amazingly simple & not very time consuming at all. After a while because not many receipts are read the right way, you get used to it. Whats upsetting is that when this thing does it right, the whole process from feeding the paper into the machine to moving on to the next item, is less than 30 seconds. Most of the time though, if youre thorough & adding the business name & taxes paid ect... that turns into 1:00 of time easily. Im an actor & a DJ. I can write off QUITE a bit so even if this thing doesnt get it right all the time, it still saves me TONS of time because of the sheer amount things I can write off. The sheer fact that this thing will allow me to throw away all that paper is a blessing. The only place where Neat can improve this scanner is the resolution to be able to scan numbers more clearly. Besides that, not a bad effort at all.

> 3 dayThe scanner is a great size, compact and easy to carry around with my laptop. I really like that it doesnt require any external power too. The quality is great for receipts and documents. As for the software, I often find that I have to crop my receipt scans because they show up with a giant black box around them, and generally speaking I have to edit every receipt because the OCR is good but not perfect. The software also seems to be more tailored for business professionals, and not just a regular home user like me. Something like tags or custom fields for each scan would be a great addition to the software. I know you can buy other programs that are supposed to work very well with this scanner, but I feel like if I am going to pay almost $200 for this package, I shouldnt need to buy extra things to make it work.

Greater than one weekit is a great asset for the traveling business man, however, it is a bit slow. I upgraded for the desk top edition that is faster and easier to feed documents into. The software is fantastic and my CPA loved how organized I was -- at last.
