> 3 dayThis scanner has made submitting receipts and expense reports much easier. I work for an overseas company, and am required to turn in monthly receipts. I was always putting it off, because it was such a chore to find the receipts, put them chronological in order, and then tape them to paper. On top of that I was creating expense reports in word documents- it was just a big hassle. With Neat Receipts I simply scan whatever receipts I have whenever I think about it- and the program that comes with the scanner saves them in an inbox. When I am ready to submit them to my company, its very easy to sort them by date and create an expense report. The expense report includes images of the receipts and then an itemized listing of whats there. I email the whole thing to my company. Where I was once spending several hours I am now only spending A FEW MINUTES! But the scanner and program could definitely use some improvements. For one, I wish I didnt have to restart my computer to get it to recognize the scanner- I wish I could plug it in and it would be ready to go. And while the software program is certainly fine- there are a lot of things that would make it great. For one, you cant choose which data fields show up in your expense report. This means a lot of data fields are included which I dont need and have left intentionally blank. It also means that the report cuts off some of the data fields I wish to include (specifically notes about each receipt- they are cut off from view half the time, but other fields which I left blank are still there, visible.) Luckily, my company doesnt mind so much what my expense reports look like, but if this program were great, I could tailor the expense reports to fit my needs. As it stands now every expense report is the same and you cant edit it. All in all I am very happy with it- I love not having to tape and staple physical receipts anymore!

> 3 dayI would give it 5 stars but i think they still can improve speed a little bit ... putting receipts is tricky at the beginning but youll get the hang of it quickly. Reports are amazing, presentation is top-notch ... i carry the scanner everywhere ... this is a very nice tool for those of us who cant easily get organized.

Greater than one weekPoor technical support team. I purchased the product at 2015 May. Two years now, the company want to promote its cloud software service, stop to support the hardware software. I bought a new computer, but once I installed into the old one. Even I uninstall the software from the old computer, I could not allow to transfer to a new computer. And I could not get a technical person to help me with the software installation. They repeat and repeat say the company policy. Dont like the company to push customer for paying more and more. I am going to look for other solution for this product.

Greater than one weekI have had this system for nearly a year now and stopped using the Neat Scanner just a few months after buying it. This unit is simply a waste of money; it scans single-side pages (which usually need to be held manually as it goes through so it doesnt twist) at a very slow, inefficient speed. For those considering Neats hardware, look to their upper-end unit. Later I bought the vastly more efficient Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M, which is light years ahead of NeatCos equipment (even their higher-end NeatDesk model which Ive also used at a colleagues. Highly recommended instead of this brand.) The software is useful, but as others have pointed out there are limitations (See later UPDATE below). One of the most troubling is that, according to NeatCo Tech Support themselves, their software only supports FIVE scanners! Lets face it, scanning isnt rocket science, and OCR has been around for a long while. How hard can it be to at least try to adapt to the most popular scanners? This company seems to put very little effort into Quality, and far more into Marketing. While Fujitsus software leaves much to be desired, their hardware is the real choice if you want to track receipts and such. Sadly no software out there yet matches the potential usefulness of Neats. If only the two could play well together... UPDATE MARCH 2011: Neat just released a vastly improved software update and it is now nearly perfect. They really listened to users. The low-end scanner review, and my recommendation for Fujitsus in its place, still stands.

> 3 dayI really wanted to love this product. I have been seeing the ads in magazines for a while - the little white machine with orange advertising. I was sold. I finally ordered it one day and followed the instructions. Calibrated and then ran a test scan with a form I needed to scan. All I got was weird spots. Tried to calibrate and trouble shoot. But gave up. I am a Mac user and I am used to being able to troubleshoot things after 2-3 tries. I emailed customer support and I got no response. Was really hoping for it to be awesome. I have to say I am really sad. Worst - I dont even want to bother putting it back in the box and returning it to Amazon. Am I alone?

24-11-2024I was so excited about Neat Receipts when I got it. I scanned a bunch of items, and was thrilled to have such a small, portable scanner. However the scanner broke within 2 weeks of my using it. It now has black lines through every scan I make. Ive contacted customer support and they are not helpful. So I ended up returning it. Other issues: the report format is not customizeable so, while I was excited to use this for my expense reports for work, the software wont print or export the categories I need for my expense reports. The OCR capability is mediocre at best so at the end of the day, this just didnt live up to expectations.

24-11-2024it is a great asset for the traveling business man, however, it is a bit slow. I upgraded for the desk top edition that is faster and easier to feed documents into. The software is fantastic and my CPA loved how organized I was -- at last.

Greater than one weekHate having little pieces of paper receipts that road warriors have to deal with. I prefer to track my expenses as they happen instead of dealing with them all in one shot at the end of the month. This scanner is portable enough and has great resolution for documents. Has the added benefit of scanning to PDF files without necessarily importing them as a receipt. With respect to the program itself, Ive had no issues with it. In some ways I wish it was more customizable and more intuitive but for the most part it does exactly what I need. I know my accountant appreciates the tax categories assigned to the receipts. If you keep up to date on the versions, you shouldnt have any problems. Customer service was responsive when I had issues with the original scanner (1 yr warranty). In short, this does what is purports do do well and is the best game in town.

> 3 dayThe scanner is a great size, compact and easy to carry around with my laptop. I really like that it doesnt require any external power too. The quality is great for receipts and documents. As for the software, I often find that I have to crop my receipt scans because they show up with a giant black box around them, and generally speaking I have to edit every receipt because the OCR is good but not perfect. The software also seems to be more tailored for business professionals, and not just a regular home user like me. Something like tags or custom fields for each scan would be a great addition to the software. I know you can buy other programs that are supposed to work very well with this scanner, but I feel like if I am going to pay almost $200 for this package, I shouldnt need to buy extra things to make it work.
