NeatReceipts Mobile Scanner and Digital Filing System for Mac

The scanner is a great size, compact and easy to carry around with my laptop. I really like that it doesnt require any external power too. The quality is great for receipts and documents. As for the software, I often find that I have to crop my receipt scans because they show up with a giant black box around them, and generally speaking I have to edit every receipt because the OCR is good but not perfect. The software also seems to be more tailored for business professionals, and not just a regular home user like me. Something like tags or custom fields for each scan would be a great addition to the software. I know you can buy other programs that are supposed to work very well with this scanner, but I feel like if I am going to pay almost $200 for this package, I shouldnt need to buy extra things to make it work.

IMPORTANT WARNING: Ordered this scanner and travel case for a project & trip but the software product key was non-functioning on arrival and as a result, could not load software or use the scanner. Neat offers no telephone support so I diligently read through the online knowledge base and than submitted my support question/ask for help to Neat via their support website. Next day, no response so I sent another email and submission request. Third day, no response - so sent another email/submission request. Fast forward -- a full week later, and I still have not received a single response (either email or call) at all to my more than seven inquiries. Unfathomable & shocking. Judging by other reviews, its clear my experience is sadly, not unique. Neats tech support and customer service is simply non-existent and its clear that NEAT doesnt care about its customers or support reputation. A truly horrible experience. I urge you to avoid this type of pain -- DO NOT BUY THEIR PRODUCTS!

I bought this product, and instead of a new scanner, what I received was a PREVIOUSLY USED and DEFECTIVE scanner that was placed in new packaging, and shrink-wrapped to appear as a new product. This scanner even had somebody elses receipts entered into the software that accompanies the product, including all of the personal information from the prior owner of this device. The scanner never worked from the first time I tried to use it. My big mistake was not opening and trying the product immediately when it arrived, because the thirty-day window in which you can return a purchase had just expired before I realized what I was up against. I am still holding out some hope that this company will provide a replacement scanner, after hours and hours with their so-called technical support. Under anyones definition, this company has engaged in fraudulent behavior, as well as violation of privacy laws. Buyer Beware!

Have been one of the first adapters of this scanner. From the beginning, this product malfunctioned, outputted poorly scanned receipts, with mediocre recognition for autofill. The customer service is horrendous, at least it has been when I attempted to get support last time 2 years ago. I have thrown away this product eventually, after giving it a last shot, for about 5 years and when I received another request to update the software, not being able to revive it after the install. Newer iterations might be better, but has been a truly poorly made product from its inception.

Did not work. Would not connect to my airbag. Called Neat several times and they said the device was broken. I would not recommend this product. My boyfriend has the larger model and it works but he has run into many problems with the eat software. Save your money. I would also not recommend this seller - He made me jump through hoops to get my money back and I had to open a case through Amazon before he responded.

After looking for an good scanner I finaly decided to purchase this one. It was the only one that could support Mac & Windows sofeware which comes with the scanner. It works great and does the job very well in black & white as well as color . However if you want to save your documernts on an external drive it will do so but will not put it in order . I had to find this out myself , I did call the company and emailed there Help Desk for advise , but there customer service may as well not be there, they are not helpfull at all. Please do not get me wrong the product is great but the customer service needs to be looked at again, you are better off getting the answers yourself. Please keep in mind that this scanner does pull power from you computer, and thus when using a laptop it will eat up battery power faster, so plug in your computer to AC when using the scanner.

This is not the top of the line, high end, high performance piece. It is a lightweight, compact unit that efficiently scans up to an 8.5x11 sheet. If you need something more, than perhaps review your needs, before you buy. I had one of these for a few years, it had been knocked around as we moved cross country and back and it finally quit. I bought another one! Like I said, for the money ya cant beat it. The Neat software is user friendly. It is not very fast, so if you have many documents to scan on a consistent basis, you may want to look into another product. It will take maybe 5 min to scan in 10 pages. For my application that is ok, you may need something faster. It would take quite a bit of time to scan in many pages with this unit. I use this little scanner to get documents into my computer and then email the docs or file them. No need to keep a fax or internet fax, i scan and use email. This one does the job just fine. I have had flatbed scanners, all in one print-scan-fax, and this one does just a good as the expensive models, although slower. One drawback is that that is does not handle legal size documents. Only up to 11 inch long. So that may be an issue if you have the need to scan legal size. Otherwise, if your need is to scan into your computer a document 8.5 x11in or less, are not in a tremendous hurry, and file the doc or email, message, print, or whatever, you should be very happy with it.

This is a great little scanner. Emphasis on the Little. It is about the size of the remote to my TV. That is the first part of what I love about it. The other bigger Neat Desk scanner is very cool in that it scans 30 Pages Per Minute. I prefer this little one as, instead of a whole bunch of scanning once a week, it is small enough to keep handy on the desk at all times. Every time I get a card or receipt I simply scan it the moment I get back to my desk. The software aspect of the system works great. I am on a Mac and the integration with Address Book works very well. If you are just a bit diligent and scan each day this little system can significantly reduce paper clutter as well as keep you very organized. Just being able to export quick and easy expense reports with scanned images is a great boon. I highly recommend this whole product suite.

Ordered this from Amazon and have spent the last two days with online support from the mfg only to determine that I have a defective product. It is really unfortunate because I fly back to Germany on Tuesday and so wont be able to replace it as no one seems to carry this product in stores anywhere. If you are thinking about buying this item...I would wait until they have worked out the bugs. Mine would not display any images....just black lines for receipts and completely blank for regular paper. All of the documents were inserted according to instructions (which by the way are opposite to the online video guide)and tried the way shown on the video as well just to be sure. Both garnered the same result. Great idea as I need help getting my receipts in order for biz trips and this is light weight and easy to pack but it just doesnt work.

Like any portable scanner, you must carefully guide the paper through. But the software works fine and its convenient to use. Ive started using my full-size scanner more when there are lots of documents to scan but this is fine for casual on-the-go use.
