I looked at the product dimensions in the details section, to buy a shelf for this switch. The dimensions given were for the box not the switch. The box has extra packaging as it should. I bought a shelf based on those box dimensions. Product details should have the dimensions of the actual device, not the packaging.

Due to working from home, Ive increasingly been getting frustrated with wifi drops - not a problem anymore! I bought this to run Ethernet to my bedroom and plug in three devices - work laptop, personal laptop, and Xbox, and they all work flawlessly. Since this is an unmanaged switch, it basically acts as an extension of the Ethernet ports on your router. It does not have a management interface, and doesnt interfere with your network at all - it also is not a security vulnerability being another device to configure/setup/manage.

I purchased this so I could connect all the gear in my entertainment center.

Ive used several Netgear products, including this 16-port 10/100/1000 switch as well as the Netgear 4-port 10/100/1000 mini-switch, and Ive never experienced any problem. I suspect that some of the failures youre reading about have to do with inadequate ventilation. This is a fanless switch, and if you dont have it located in an area where it can dissipate heat, youll see that it gets very hot. This can also occur when you pile stuff on top of the switch, as might happen if you locate it in a closet, or put another heat producing device on top of it, like a cable or DSL modem. This caveat is also included in the setup instructions, so its ultimate location should be taken into consideration prior to your purchase.

Ive purchased several of these for client homes and offices, and they work great. Good speed and communication with network connections. Built strong and very reliable.
