I try to stick with Norton for one distinctive function...backups. I am ensured that I have a good backup if needed. However, It is very annoying that Norton will try and force you into auto renewal.

9/22 update and new 3 star review - I just wasted an hour screwing around with a logon to a long time financial site on my iPhone due to the Norton VPN. I was at the gym and I activated the VPN (at Nortons urging) and I set it to turn off automatically when using a safe wifi like the one at home. The VPN did NOT turn off automatically and it prevented my logon to the long used financial site. I uninstalled and reinstalled the financial app, restarted my phone and tried a few other tricks. The App would NOT work. Then I remembered the Norton VPN and once I shut it off, the financial app worked fine. The Norton VPN slows data down to a crawl and can cause issues like I just described above - it can be very annoying to use. Original 4 star review - For a new account, this Norton 360 Platinum product key from Amazon is a great deal, no issues or complaints. For $30, it’s awesome and thanks Amazon for the opportunity to get a great deal. I like the Norton password vault, most of the features and functions but there is one part that of the Norton experience that is challenging - adding this key card to an existing account. My review for this key card for a new account is 5 stars but I give it 4 stars overall because as I mentioned, the process for adding this key to an existing account is annoying and can be time consuming and the VPN can be a pain. I’ve had Norton since 2008 and the renewal “game” has become increasingly challenging. Norton wants you to auto renew your existing subscription and then upcharge on the auto renew - by a LOT. In this case, this product key is $30 and the Norton subscription renewal price is $114.99 as of the writing of this review - September, 2022. Norton used to have 2 and 3 year subscriptions. That’s all gone. They also had a far easier way to renew years ago months before the end of the subscription and that was right on the Norton account page. Not anymore. I suspect Norton relies on folks to forget about their auto renewal agreement and they get charged full retail price. There are all sorts of tricks and games required to buy this $30 key card from Amazon and use it as a renewal for an existing Norton subscription renewal. Read the reviews and you will see all manner of approaches to avoid getting hosed by Norton. It can be done but it’s not easy or quick. My process is to go online with the chat folks on the Norton site who will assist you entering this key for a renewal. There is no pricing squabble because you already have the Amazon purchased Norton key in hand - that saves some time. I was very polite with the overseas service folks and very careful not to click on any link too fast even when the service person asked me to click on them. I asked many polite questions along the way and after about 20 minutes, we had it sorted out and my existing subscription got renewed by 12 months with this Amazon purchased key which saved me about $85 over the “auto renew” price. You really don’t have a choice - either buy this key from Amazon for $30 or get “auto-renewed” by Norton for 4 times as much, your choice. Hope that helps! PS - Norton also tried to upsell constantly. They want you pay list for Lifelock, constantly send out fear sales notifications that your account is at risk from the dark web, any and all data incursions worldwide and spammers. Its a constant attempt to grab cash. Be prepared.

First the good: N360 does a good job of keeping the bad stuff out. The bad: The installation protocol has been changed and NOT for the better, nor for the benefit of the buyer. Ive been a faithful customer of Norton for at least 10 years, but this new system is a pure-blooded Charlie Foxtrot! It took me 3 1/2 frustrating hrs to install the update on two windows PC, an IPad, and 3 android devices. In addition (in case you havent read any of the negative reviews), despite the fact that you have already purchased a prod key card from another vendor, youre now REQUIRED to provide your credit card in order to activate the new subscription. Dont miss the fact that this unavoidably enrolls you in the Automatic Renewal program, under which Norton will be happy to roll over your subscription in a yr, charging your card of record at FULL RETAIL PRICE (about 2-3 times higher than Amazon). After wasting yet another 40 min. searching the site in vain for a way to unenroll in the auto renewal, I learned that you are now required to get a Tech support person to turn the feature off. You no longer will can deselect this feature yourself, and they wont do it for you until they first try to bribe you with a free 3 mos. extension to remain in autorenewal. No thanks. Another change in the last couple years concerns Nortons never ceasing emails and spam messages trying to convince you to spend more money to get additional premium features. You should check this list of extra costs to see if theyre things you require and then see if they are included with other vendors base offering. I guess, like Microsoft, Norton has decided to pad their bottom line by trying to upsell customers into paying for all sorts of optional extras. If, after checking to see if my dissatisfaction with N360 - and the new Norton in genl - are unique or widespread, you still decide to buy it, then go in peace and never say you werent warned. B. Nortons a good product. It does what to has to do without getting in the way. Thats a given. Subscription renewal is easy but pricey. So its nice to be able to buy Norton from third parties and save some cash. The problem is that its not so easy to use a new activation to extend an existing subscription. Well, its only a matter of waiting for the old one to run out before activating the new one. Thats fine if youve only got one or even a couple of subscriptions to extend. But as the number of seats climb that becomes impractical. What I do is activate the new subscription and then give Symantecs support line a call. I politely ask them to cancel the new, unused subscription and add it to my existing subscription. It takes a few minutes, but then all of your seats are extended. I wish they would include an option to do that without a call but then I guess they wouldnt sell so many renewals from inside the product. At least tech support is always helpful when you ask.

I certainly would not buy it again. Everyone is different when it comes to PC protection but I didnt like Norton 360 and it was like pulling teeth for them to return my money because they automatically charged you for the next year even though I canceled as soon as i joined. What a hassel. Would not do business with them again.

Have been using and trusting Norton Anti-virus for over 20 years. Great technology, seems to work. That is the key reason I have renewed every year. Indeed, the top three reasons is that their anti-virus software seems to work. However, I hate their idiot user approach. Tells me I have a possible virus in one email out of thousands in my Thunderbird email folder, and do I want to quarantine the entire folder? Absolutely NOT. Can not toss away thousands of messages. They should provide info, such as the message sender, subject, date & time. hate the renewal policy. After installation, if you allow them to auto renew another year, the cost is several times higher than a new purchase with a new serial number. Just buy new, get a virtual credit card from your bank with a $ limit, and use that for the required auto-renew data. Mixed feelings, but overall recommended because their anti-virus software works. The bonus feature of cloud backup is nice. Recommended as part of a safe computing strategy.

I have been using Norton for years as it offers a decent set of anti virus apps. However, the annual renewal process has always been very annoying in one way or the other. Their current scheme goes like this: - To purchase Norton 360 online you must have auto-renewal set to on. - More than one month before your license expired, they auto renew for a much higher price than if you would purchase the app suite new (~3 x more! - $115 instead of $35) - I did not get notified about the impending auto renewal a month ago, but only found out today, when I wanted to turn off auto renewal I think this is not a great business strategy, because it seems borderline like a scam. Instead of rewarding long time customers, Norton is deceiving and taking advantage of them. So if you buy a license only make sure that you pretty soon after turn off auto-renewal.

Ive used Norton in some form or another for over 15 years. It seems to get more and more complicated to activate a new subscription every year. This year was the worst yet. Youd think you could just provide the new product key and it would be applied to your existing devices. That would be too easy. What a f*****g pain in the butt. Thankfully I was finally able to add my 2 computers and 5 android devices (I had to remove every device then add them back one at a time ... WTF ???). Norton used to provide internet security - thats what I buy it for. Not all this other crap that I never use. Too many ads. Too many pop ups. Too many gyrations to unsubscribe from the mandatory auto-renewal. Too much aggravation. No more. Im done.
