Philips Hue 468942 Single Premium BR30 Smart Bulb Downlight for 5-6 inch recessed cans, 16 million colors (Hue Hub Required, Works with Alexa), Old Version, White and Color Ambiance

I have had the most impossible time with this bulb. I originally ordered a used - like new condition bulb from a third party seller that was a total scam and not even an LED bulb, let alone wifi-enabled. Got a refund easily enough. Ordered again, this time from Amazon Warehouse Deals thinking it would be more trustworthy (again, used but like-new). Straight out of the box the bulb wouldnt make any blue tones. Contacted Amazon and returned the bulb, this time for a NEW bulb sold by Amazon. Four months later and it started glitching out, turning itself on and off, before totally dying out. Meanwhile my other identical bulbs that I bought back in August are just fine (and on the same circuit, so they endured exactly the same usage as my dead bulb). The bulbs that do work are great -- no issues, super fun, etc. But given how many problems Ive had Im not sure Id recommend Hue lights. I dont know if Philips has made a shoddy product or if Amazon is having an issue with quality control, but neither should be the case considering the price of these things. Really dont want to shell out another 50 and take the gamble, but my kitchen has a dim corner now!

My entire house is almost made up all flood lights. For now I just got this one and placed it above fireplace. It looks great. Was easy to setup and have had no problems with it since setting it up. Highly recommend.

Do not buy these lights! These lights are good in theory but they are not ready for prime time in the slightest. The main gripe I have is that you cannot use your actual light switch to use these lights in the way you likely want to. For example, say you want a nice blue tinted light in your room rather than the more yellow tint the bulb gives off when you first put in in. Too bad. Seriously, turning the light off with your light switch automatically resets the color back to the standard yellow rather than the color you took the time to set it to. The only work around are to 1) use the app to turn your lights on and off (cumbersome and unintuitive) or 2) to buy their light switch (which, if you ever accidentally use your real light switch to turn the lights off, still means you must use the app to get them back to the color you desired. That’s ridiculously stupid for a ‘’smart’’ light.

Out of 8 purchased, only 4 actually worked properly and one of those that works makes buzzing noise. I would not recommend purchasing these from Amazon Warehouse.

These lights are all sorts of fun. Zero complaints. Would recommend to anyone looking to upgrade their lighting to something that sets the mood and is easily controllable.

Ill admit, compared to their cheaper and seemingly similar Chinese clones, these are quite pricey especially for a very simple product. But what you pay in price you get back in quality and durability. If you are serious about going all in on the smart home scene these are a must-have. Ive tried those cheaper knockoff lights that have full RGB color range, but they both have terrible connectivity issues, awful color accuracy, and even worse durability. I had 4/5 of my cheap bulbs fail within the first 3 months. These Philips hue lights? Not a single issue in the months and months Ive had these. The color accuracy is impeccable. The software integration is seamless and super easy to navigate. The connectivity is fast and consistent. The brightness is top of its class. And the features are plentiful and super useful. Time based lighting is a must have for me now. And the ability to accurately sense when I leave my house or arrive is unlike any other app or tool Ive tried to use in the past. Every time I come home, my lights are on, set to the correct temperature, and always ready for commands or changes in scenes. tl;dr - if you are serious about smart home, but the price seems too high in comparison to others. Get these regardless. Its worth every single penny. You wont regret it
