> 24 hourMy little one is 14 months and like other toddlers her age, she is beginning to get into everything. I knew we had to do something when I took my eye off of her one day and found her in front of the cabinet under the sink with the cleanser paper tab in her hand (nothing bad happened). I searched amazon and stumbled across these locks. When they came, I thought installation would be a pain, but I was wrong. The kit comes with templates that ingeniously make this a tough job to botch. You simply stick the template on one side, mark where the latch goes, peel the sticker and transfer it to the other cabinet, again marking your screw holes. While a drill is recommended I didnt use one and still have good results (and no accidental pokes through - I wouldnt be writing this review if that was the case). As far as function, these works great. We even had a cabinet that wouldnt stay closed which annoyed me and of course attracted the baby. Now, shes a bit confused as to why she cant get in. Shes tugged and tugged until she fell on her bottom and just doesnt get why they no longer open, so they are fairly strong. I would warn you that you will likely forget that the cabinets are locked, so dont be surprised when your baby proofing works on you. Id also caution that you put the key on a string and hang on a knob/hook, as my only fear is losing it and locking myself out of the cabinet. The fact that you can keep these unlocked is good when you are working in the kitchen and need to get in and out of cabinets. In case you are wondering, they do work on drawers as well. Safety first has thought this product all the way through so I have to give them credit.

> 24 hourThese are great childproof locks. I bough them because I now have two granddaughters, and needed to secure some areas. My husband installed them, and said that the template that came with it was very helpful. They work best on the cabinet doors. They work on my thicker drawers as well, but Unlocking with the key, isn’t as easy as on the thinner cabinets. We couldn’t make them work on our lazy Susan cupboards though, and we have two of those. I wished I had known that at the time I ordered them, even though I would have ordered them anyway. Maybe someone said in a review that they didn’t work on rotating cupboard. But I didn’t see it. These are so much better than the plastic ones we had when I had my children 40 years ago. When locked, they don’t open a bit. No little fingers are going to get pinched. Great price, and arrived when expected. If anyone knows of similar locks that do work on lazy Susan cupboard types, I’d be interested in hearing.

> 24 hourWithout a doubt this is the best cabinet door locking system for RV cabinet doors that tend to pop open from vibration or movement while travelling down the road. There is some work involved in installing them (4 holes to drill for each door assembly and screws to install) but the effort is well worth it. We had always had a problem with doors popping open due to pressure of heavier items inside pushing against the doors as we travelled on bumpy or uneven roads. This has completely eliminated the problem. You only have to lock/unlock them before or after travelling. You leave them unlocked when stationary in a campground. We only installed them on the 6 doors that were causing the problem because of the material in those cabinets. There is no visible clue that you have a lock installed when the doors are closed and they can be removed and installed on different doors later. Any strong magnet will open the doors in case you lose the original magnet. When you apply the magnet it simply moves the lock latch while you open the door and then you can manually lock the latch in the open position. When you want to re-activate the locking mechanism you just open the door and flip the switch to allow the latch to engage when you close the door. We are fulltime RVers and in the 6 months weve had them theyve worked perfectly.

> 24 hourBefore buying these locks I did a lot of research, which was unfortunately why I had to rush to install them once my son started crawling. I did not like the idea of the other style of magnetic locks which solely utilize adhesive to attach the locks and catches to the door/frame. I felt that that was too cheap and could be overcome by a very determined child. The instructions were easy enough to follow, but the real reason to purchase these is the installation template. You get one for each lock and it is quite simply idiot proof. A single template is used for both the lock and the catch. It actually is designed to transfer from the frame to the door during installations. Simply put, this product is well worth the money and I plan to leave these on my cabinets even after I no longer need them. You can disengage them when no longer needed and in my opinion its a benefit when selling my house in case they have children.

> 24 hourI know these are probably made for young children, but I bought them because my son has autism and he is no longer little - he can reach all the same cabinets I can because hes almost a teenager. He thinks he can do more than he actually can... such as experimental cooking in the middle of the night :-( So I bought a pack of these to test them out. Figured if they didnt work, Id give them to someone with smaller kids to lock them out of lower cabinets. Installed one and tried to pull the door open afterwards - I am a very big, tall woman - door didnt budge. Id have to literally rip it off the hinges to open it. Have not had any trouble as of yet with my son opening any cabinets now. Might install them on drawers too, havent decided yet. Of course this means I have to wear the key on my person (even in my sleep, or hide it well) but small sacrifice for a kitchen that doesnt look like a cyclone hit it.

> 24 hourWow, how nice to have the cabinets locked now! These magnetic locks are nice and strong...my little one cannot get into the cabinets when these locks are engaged. They dont budge at all! Its a little annoying to have to grab the magnet off the fridge to get a door open, but much less so than constantly worrying about what shes grabbing out of them. I would recommend buying an extra magnetic key, although we havent yet. My older daughter accidentally locked the key in their bathroom cabinet, but a magnetic clip we had on the fridge was strong enough to open the lock. Installation wasnt too bad. When one is finished the rest go quickly, especially if you have someone working with you. We only used a couple of the templates. Its easy to reuse them and we wanted to save a couple in case we needed them later. The only cabinet that was troublesome was the narrow one that stores baking sheets. Youll want to consider the width of the opening when planning use of the tools (finding a smaller drill for example...we had to borrow a neighbors for the one cabinet door). I love that they can be engaged or disengaged easily...just push the red/green button. When baby is napping and Im cleaning I dont have to keep reaching for the key. We havent placed these locks in the drawers yet, but Im sure that will soon be necessary as she is growing so fast! Overall these are great little locks and way more effective that those that allow the doors to open a bit (you know the ones...where you push down the plastic tab to open the door the rest of the way). No chance for pinched baby fingers with these :)

> 24 hourWe installed these today. It took about 2 hours to install all 8. 6 on cabinets, 2 on drawers. The two drawers took about 30 minutes each (the bulk of the time), because it is very difficult to mount them in such tight quarters. I suppose the ease of installation will depend on your cabinetry and tools available. It seemed my drill bit was a little dull, and thus a bit harder to drill the pilot holes. We also dont have any of the fancy drills that can go around corners and tight spots, so the drawers had to be removed to place the catch, then put back to measure for the lock, then removed again to drill the lock in. The little sticky templates that come for installation do help - but they arent exact, so you will need to do some eyeballing around and maybe trial and error on the first lock until you figure out how they fit. The locks for the drawers, being mounted vertically, seem to be much more finicky to line up. At first we thought they would be unusable, but were able to find a way to mount them to work. However, Im not sure how confident I am in their holding strength. I would caution that these wont work on all cabinets. The instructions state that inset cabinetry may not work. Luckily, our inset cabinets had enough to mount. I tried to link the instruction manual from the Safety 1st site - but cant look it up there by product number. I would recommend you e-mail them: [email protected] and request an instruction manual before purchasing to ensure they will work on your cabinets. An interesting note: Placing these on my granite counter top caused the latches to unlock. I had thought the key was a magnet, but apparently any large enough piece of metal serves as an unlocker. There must be a bunch of ferrite or other metals in the granite which serves the purpose. I suppose this could be a risk if a child was holding a metal toy within an inch or so of the lock, while attempting to pull open at the same time. Im a first time parent, but with the way my 8 month old is picking things up, Id be surprised if she doesnt figure out how to open this stuff within another 4-6 months. -1 star for what could be an easier installation, especially for vertical mounted -1 star for being able to open with a large piece of metal, and not specifically a magnet as I had thought.

> 24 hourThese are great if you dont want your child locks to be visible or leave small openings for cabinets to close on little fingers. You do need to drill them in to the cabinet, but everything is done out of sight, so we are able to use them even though we dont own our home. Yes, they are a little bit of a pain to deal with, but I dont think there are child safety locks out there that arent at least somewhat of a pain. Once you get the hang of opening them (you have to hold the magnet in EXACTLY the right spot and open the door while its still positioned there) and remember to grab the key before trying to open the door (it does take a little while), these work perfectly. Theyve made our cabinet doors so uninteresting to our very curious and active 7-month-old that he no longer even bothers trying to open them. I am giving them 4 stars only because one of the locks didnt work properly and we cant use it. Fortunately, we didnt need that one so I let it go.

> 24 hourI purchased this to keep my 1 year old out of all our lower cabinets. They have worked flawlessly! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Pros - Completely baby proof - Without a key, they can NOT be opened. It also keeps fingers from getting squished. Disable feature - You can disable the locking mechanism. Baby asleep? Need to empty dishwasher? Just disable and open without key. Extremely adjustable - They provide some wiggle room when getting the positions just right to ensure a tight and secure fit. Reusable - Sadly I installed one of them in the wrong location. I was easily able to remove and reuse everything. Even the templates. Secure hold - If you install them properly, they have no wiggle room and can take a 1 1/2 year old yanking on it. Pictured directions - Being able to see the parts and placements REALLY helped. Cons - Pricey - Worth it if you can afford it. Longer initial install time - The first few took a while to figure out. Once I had about 4 or 5 under my belt, I started moving through them pretty fast. Instructions kinda confusing - Instructions were almost too detailed. A bit overwhelming, but I figured it out. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I installed a total of 16 of these things so I feel I have a good grasp on setting them up. Here are some tips: 1) Set aside enough time to do them all at one time. I wouldnt want to do these 2 at a time. You get in a rhythm after a few! Keep going. 2) PLAN WHERE YOU WANT THEM BEFORE YOU START DRILLING! The first set I installed werent where I wanted them to be. Be sure to put them all in the same spot so youll remember where they can. You cannot see where they are once you install them and close the cabinet. 3) Have both a power drill with small drill bit and phillips screwdriver. You will need the power drill and drill bit to make the initial install holes. Then youll use phillips to install the screws. Youll want to hand tighten the screws. 4) Tighten the screws just enough for the pieces to hold their position. Then test it out. You will want to slide each piece into just the right place before really tightening them. If youre patient, youll get a lock that both falls into place with a normal close AND that doesnt give any slack. 5) Be aware that if you are not careful, the locks will move around as you screw them tight. Hold them steady to keep them in the right place. 6) Buy extra keys if you need too. We have one for each of the 3 rooms we have these locks installed. We purchased 2 8-piece sets and 1 extra key. Totally worth the investment. Keys stick to anything metal... Higher up on a fridge is a really good place for the kitchen one. Just be aware that they are extremely powerful and could scratch a surface if you just slap it up there. I would buy these again and highly suggest them to you if you are in the baby proofing business!

> 24 hourWe looked at just about every cabinet lock out there. I didnt want ones that were a pain in the butt to unlock every time I had to open a cabinet door. We have six cabinet doors in our kitchen that the little guy can reach so I put one on all six. They are awesome and perfect! First of all, you cant see them at all. They install on the inside. We keep the magnetic key on the fridge so its close by when we need it. My son gives these cabinets a workout and theyve never failed. Im so used to using the magnet now that I literally dont even think about it anymore. If hes not in the kitchen and Im going to be opening the door a lot, its easy to set the lock to unlocked so you dont have to use the magnet at all. Weve used these locks for about 4 months now and I cant imagine a better solution. They just work. About the installation... Ive seen a few bad reviews with folks saying the lock didnt work or failed. The locks absolutely work. The way that they are designed, they cant not work. But they do need to be installed correctly. Once you install the lock, then you need to test it and make ever so slight adjustment (loosen screw and move back & forth) until its perfect. If you patiently install and test each lock, Id be hard to not be successful.
