After much research, I decided on these since for my drawers they can be turned on/off. After installing, I ran into a few problems that I had to troubleshoot, and I hope this helps others. First, after installing these according to the directions, my son was able to still open the drawers. It seems that when he pulled on the drawer, he pulled up a little which pushed the part that sticks up on the lock down, allowing it to slide open. I decided to turn the catch around so the flat side was facing the lock (photo attached). This solved the problem and he cant open the drawer, much to his dismay! Second, my drawers are the type that have the drawer face attached to a thick sided drawer. The catch part of the lock that attaches to the cabinet would bump into the inside of the drawer, not allowing it to close all the way. By turning the catch around (as I had to do for the problem above), this allowed approx. another 1/2 inch for the drawer to slide in. On another note - I have the KidCo Swivel Cabinet & Drawer Lock installed on my cabinet doors and highly recommend for the same reason (able to turn on/off) and you dont have to have a magnet. My son hasnt figured out how to open these yet and doesnt seem to be too interested, so heres hoping that lasts.

These locks are amazing! This is our 3rd try child proofing our cabinets. First we used the 3M type locks. Those worked pretty well until my little guy used all his strength to bust through them. Next we tried the cheap push down locks you screw into the inside of your drawers and cabinets. Again worked until my son figured out how to put his hand inside and open it himself. He is only 22 months so I still needed some type of safety locks on some of our cabinets. This was our last resort before moving everything out of his reach. My husband installed these locks very easily. They are very secure when locked. My son will go up to them give a tug and say locked and move on. There is no wiggle room for him to mess with them. I also like that you can turn the lock off if you dont want to use the key all the time. Such a nice feature. I actually went back and bought a second pack for our upstairs bathroom cabinets.

The lock itself works well. I have two children in the home, ages 4 and 1. Neither can open the drawer when the lock is on and engaged. I was able to open the drawer when I installed the lock on the top center. Doing so loosened the catch. I also had a lot of trouble with that first installation primarily because I trusted the measurements provided. After having installed several of the locks and seeing them in practice over a weekend, I have the following recommendations; 1) Trust your own measurements. The measurements provided with the sticky pads that come in the packaging arent exact. These locks are small and the drilling needs to be precise. If youre off by a 1/16th of an inch the catch might not be effective. 2) Put the catch on first. Its easier to start with the catch then measure where the lock goes after that since the lock will need to clear under the catch in order for the drawer to close. 3) Place the catch in the top corner or on the side. I initially put my first lock top center the way you usually see those cheap plastic catches installed. It did not work nearly as well as it could have. All in all, the locks work very well, but the installation instructions werent very good. If youre reasonably handy dump the instructions and make the measurements yourself. Youll save you some time. That said, I definitely recommend this product.

This is an acceptable product for basic uses, and it has a couple strong points worth mentioning. The magnet strength is excellent. Both the key and the latch have magnets, this is smart. I found a potential and safe working depth/distance of up to 1 thick piece of lumber (1x4 ideal), with optional 3/8 drywall over the top of that as well. Most cabinet doors are a 3/4 maximum, usually about half inch, so these are strong enough indeed. Floating in air with no obstruction, i was able to operate the magnet latching from almost 2 apart. Also, the key is easy to find, just keep it where you expect it. Having its own magnet allows a variety of storage options. The product loses a star for a couple reasons. First, mounting versatility - i didnt use them in a open air cabinet door with no obstructions like most people will. Also, the small screw hole tabs - these proved to be a mounting challenge, and the base that attaches to the door is bowed (convex) on many of them. No screws came with, youre on own with that one as well. I still would recommend this product.

My ten month triplet boys will figure out how to open up the kitchen cabinets sooner rather than later, so I ordered these from Amazon and was able to install them today. I have read a lot of people complain about installing these locks, and while it takes some effort, its not that hard. I did it all by myself, an extra pair of hands would have been nice! After installing the first set of locks, you get the hang of it and the rest are actually pretty easy to install. You need a drill and a 7/64 bit to pre-drill for the screw holes, the hardware is can be installed with a screwdriver and all of the screws are provided. An installation guide is included with the locks - you get one guide for each lock that will temporarily stick to the cabinet frame and then again to the door. You dont need to mark the holes first with a pencil to drill - I just used the paper as a template. When I ordered these, I was concerned that they would not work for our installation since our cabinets have no center dividers (there are two doors, side-by-side with no wood piece in the center), but the locks are actually very versatile and can work with the locking mechanism facing up or facing sideways. Keep in mind that each door and drawer will take a single lock. Eight locks came in the package that I ordered, so I was able to finish four cabinets (with two doors each). I did run out of locks before I could try these out on any of our kitchen drawers, but I will order some more and secure the kitchen drawers as well. I recommend these for any parent that needs to keep their infants out of drawers and cabinets. 1 tip - Leave one drawer accessible with stuff in it that the kids can play with. That way they will get easily sidetracked and forget about trying to get in to the other cabinets / drawers that have been secured.

    Greater than one week

any and everyone with kids should have these, if not get them STAT! They are amazing! We have been through every kind of child proofing device, and always after a few weeks the kids figure them out, then your stuck with this thing you have to unlatch every time, and the kids are still throwing tupperware all over the kitchen! Well, not with these!! We have finally outsmarted them... for now. LOL. The great thing is that you need the magnet key to open them, and you can put it up high where the kids cant get it. It is easy enough however to where they can use it if you want them to. I also love that when you dont need them anymore, like when the kids are in bed and your putting away a lot of dishes, or doing some cooking for the week, you can unlock the device so you can open the door without the key. Then simply lock it back up after. They are a bit of an investment, but all of the other ones dont work anyways, so go for gold the first time! I only wish they would come up with a dishwasher child lock... as Im throwing my computer to the side right now to grab a knife from my 2 year old who just got into the dishwasher... ugh.

These things Im sure work fine on some cabinets, but definitely not on all. Our cabinet doors have that standard recessed area about an inch from the outer edge, that frames the center part of the door, for a nice decorative look. I thought we could screw this lock into the thick part of the door that goes around the edges - as it appears in the product shot. Maybe it was just us, but in our case, if we put the lock there, then it would end up too close to the door frame, making it impossible to close the door. So, we had to mount it a little farther away so it wouldnt hit the door frame and so that it would meet up with the latch plate when the doors were closed. Unfortunately, this meant having to drill a hole into the thinnest part of the cabinet (see attached photos). And yes, this did cut a hole all the way through, and the screws that come with it did pierce the exterior of the doors. Now the doors are ruined and one of the two locks I installed still doesnt work properly. The first one I put on works fine. It latches when you close the door. I put the other one on the door right next to it, and when you close the door, it appears to latch, but if you pull the door with just a little extra strength, it comes completely open without the use of the magnet key! Making it totally worthless. Another problem is that we have small round rubber bumper on the bottom and top corner of each door so that closing the doors is completely silent. With those bumpers on, you have to push the door really hard to get it to latch. And to unlatch it, you have to put the magnet up to the lock and then push the door hard to relieve the pressure on the lock so it will unlatch. I took the bumpers off the two doors I installed these locks on and it worked much better. It latches instantly and easily now, but we have to listen to the loud noise of wood banging wood every time one of the doors closes. In the last photo, you can see where I initially tried to mount the lock on the thicker part of the cabinet door. However, that put it way too close to the latch plate and the door frame and the door wouldnt close at all - the lock bumps into the door frame preventing it from closing. Where you see it in this photo is the exact distance it needs to be away from the door frame and the latch plate in order to work. It cant be any farther to the right or left - it has to be exactly here, and that puts it directly over the thinnest part of the door. It might have worked better if I had installed it so that it would latch from the top or bottom of the door (as shown in the product photos), but the top of the door is too high for my wife to reach, and if we installed it on the bottom, it would take up precious cabinet space as wed have to move a few things away to give the lock room to fit into the cabinet as you close the door. The cabinets are so full though, we didnt want to waste any unnecessary space. I didnt bother putting the rest on. No need to ruin all the cabinets, especially if theyre not all going to work. I dont know why the second one wont latch. Its installed EXACTLY the same way as the first one. But the lock just slips right out of the latch plate, when you give it a little extra tug. For me, this product just isnt designed well for some of the most common types of cabinet doors.

Easy to install and the templates included are brilliant but I did find the screws to be so short they were really hard to work with...now I understand that you dont want them going through the cabinet but I would have liked them a hair longer. Buy an extra magnet. I love that I can turn off the magnet when my grandson is not here. Good value Addendum: I have read that everyone says you must drill a hole in the inside of the cabinet to screw in the screws...they do have a pointed tip but its not sharp enough. I used an awl to get a hole started and did not have to drill one hole. The unit has been up a couple of months now and Im very pleased. One lock comes open at times but I think its my fault and I need to adjust the unit up a bit which is not a problem because the screws are on a track that gives you leeway in either direction. Im still very pleased with this purchase. MAKE SURE YOU BUY A SPARE MAGNET! I put that off and then mine went MIA. Had it not been for the powerful magnet on the base of my power drill I would have had to wait for a replacement to access my cabinets.
