Greater than one weekI love these locks! They were a little complicated to install, but other reviewers gave some useful tips which helped us install. Plus our cabinets are strange, so we had to adjust the template. Anyway, great product. We can turn them off when we dont have kids in the house and turn them on when we do have them. What I liked is that unlike normal childproof locks where you can open the cabinet a couple inches and depress the lock to open all the way, these keep the cabinet from opening at all. If you have bright little toddlers, they can figure those other ones out in a hot minute, and there goes your safety. These require the magnetic key, which can be stored safely out of reach ( we keep ours on top the fridge where it cant be seen or reached) keeping kiddos out. We opted to purchase an additional key because we have cabinets we wanted to keep locked on multiple levels of the house, and 1 key was impractical. The Amazon price, when we purchased, was right around $20 for 8 locks and 1 key. I saw a set at Target containing 4 locks and 1 key for around $14, so I feel real good about the Amazon pricing. Plus, we needed the extra key, which was just a few dollars more.

Greater than one weekThese locks are great for childproofing. We have used them in the kitchen and under the bathroom sink where cleaners and soaps are stored. -There is NO unsightly padlock device on the outside of your cabinets - you cannot tell the locks are there, so your kitchen doesnt look like a nursery -There is an off/on switch! So, if youre cooking and are going to have to open the same drawer ten times, you dont have to keep using the magnet. Just unlock it for cooking and secure it back when youre done. -The magnet sticks to the fridge, so we always know where it is Only downside is that sometimes it can be annoying having to grab the magnet to open whatever drawer I want, especially if the cabinet I want access to is across the kitchen from the magnet. But - Id rather have that inconvenience than have to stare at giant white, plastic locks on the outside of cabinets. You also have to learn where the magnets are, because theres not really any way to see where exactly you should put the key. Install them all in the same basic spot on each door so that the lock is easy to find each time. I just scoot the key until I hear a thunk if I didnt catch the magnet on the first try. Overall - I am very pleased.

> 3 dayWe love these locks!!!! The very best child locks EVEr and we have used so many! You install by screws, not hard, but a necessary piece of info. The nicest feature besides the absolutely effective child locking is that they have a switch which allows you to disengage the locking mechanism. This feature is so nice, especially for those who may only have children around sometimes, grandparents, friends, or in between stages on kids... and you dont always want t deal with a safety lock. Imagine having your granbabies around and not having your DVD cupboard exploited, or your Tupperware drawer I will never be without these again. I even lock the toy cupboard with them giving my only one toy at a time rule some needed backing. I keep the magnetic lock on my fridge and having a few extras isnt unhelpful. I have a few different brands trying or a better price after loving these, and while the others are work fine, these certainly feel the highest quality. Take note, if you do different brands they may use opposite ends of the magnet, making the various keys less compatible with the other sets. Once again love these, and thus is the brand I will buy more of if I need them. If this was helpful, please say so, it makes me happy to know Ive helped someone.

Greater than one weekThe locks seem to hold the doors to my kitchen cabinets securely closed. And the magnetic keys work to unlock the locks through the thickest part of the cabinet doors (probably about 1/2 inch of solid wood). However, even with the provided template, they were not particularly easy to install. Alignment was a little more difficult than I thought it needed to be, resulting in a few extra holes on the (not visible from the outside) inside of the cabinet. I should have measured 3 times, not just twice, before drilling.

> 3 dayI bought these because I could not stand the latch locks. The installation template made it very easy to install. They seem to be very secure (my son hasn’t messed with the cabinets today). So far I love it.

> 3 dayThese work great for keeping little ones out, they do get annoying for adults at times though. I find myself using the key to open a drawer, setting the key down, closing the drawer, only realizing I need something else, then picking up the key again and unlocking the device. Sometimes this happens over and over. It sounds like I am being absurd for being annoyed with this minor inconveniences, but it gets a little annoying having to get the key EVERY SINGLE TIME to open a door. That is not the fault of the product, that was by design and there is nothing they can do about it. It still is good for what it is intended to do. Install was not the easiest, the instructions and little sticker guides for drill holes were just confusing for me, so I just eyeballed the mount points and that worked fine for me. Can my wife install them? Doubt it, but she is not very handy either. So you need to have basic hand tool experience I would say to install these.

> 3 dayAfter trying the Kidco adhesive cabinet locks we decided we needed something stronger. After only a couple of weeks the adhesive on one of them gave up. We also needed a solution to the doors on our entertainment center, and these did the trick! So although I really didnt want to drill holes, Im over it now because this product feels SO much stronger. There was definitely a learning curve to installing them as many people mention. I can guarantee you that the people who have bashed this product for it being so hard to install didnt take the extra 5mins to read the instructions very thoroughly before starting. Familiarize yourself with the process and product, THEN begin. And refer often back the instructions. As long as you go into the process with the right tools and PATIENCE, youll be fine. I did end up using a drill bit to pre drill holes to save time, but it is doable without that (unless you have really hard wood cabinets)...just be patient :) So I LOVE the product and how much sturdier it feels than the other adhesive products, but HATE the installation. I wish it were easier as many others agree, but Im not even sure how Safety 1st can get around that...thats for them to work on.

> 3 dayWorks pretty well. My boy was not happy when he found that he couldnt open the door any more. The reasons it got 4 stars instead of 5 are two folds. First, 1 out of 8 locks doesnt work. The locking tongue doesnt bounce back after its been retracted. Second, Safety 1st needs to redo their instructions. Its so unnecessarily complicated and confusing. Read my instruction below. 1. Find the position where the lock should be installed, i.e., not interfering with handle and everything else. 2. Peel off the 1A on the marker paper. Fold over and find the holes for the catch. 3. Drill two holes for the catch. 4. Peel off the 1B side on the marker paper, close the cabinet door firmly and open again so the marker paper is transferred onto the cabinet door. 5. Drill the two holes for the lock. 6. Install the catch and the lock, adjust position of both so theres minimal play in between. 7. Youre done!

Greater than one weekany and everyone with kids should have these, if not get them STAT! They are amazing! We have been through every kind of child proofing device, and always after a few weeks the kids figure them out, then your stuck with this thing you have to unlatch every time, and the kids are still throwing tupperware all over the kitchen! Well, not with these!! We have finally outsmarted them... for now. LOL. The great thing is that you need the magnet key to open them, and you can put it up high where the kids cant get it. It is easy enough however to where they can use it if you want them to. I also love that when you dont need them anymore, like when the kids are in bed and your putting away a lot of dishes, or doing some cooking for the week, you can unlock the device so you can open the door without the key. Then simply lock it back up after. They are a bit of an investment, but all of the other ones dont work anyways, so go for gold the first time! I only wish they would come up with a dishwasher child lock... as Im throwing my computer to the side right now to grab a knife from my 2 year old who just got into the dishwasher... ugh.

12-06-2025Before buying these locks I did a lot of research, which was unfortunately why I had to rush to install them once my son started crawling. I did not like the idea of the other style of magnetic locks which solely utilize adhesive to attach the locks and catches to the door/frame. I felt that that was too cheap and could be overcome by a very determined child. The instructions were easy enough to follow, but the real reason to purchase these is the installation template. You get one for each lock and it is quite simply idiot proof. A single template is used for both the lock and the catch. It actually is designed to transfer from the frame to the door during installations. Simply put, this product is well worth the money and I plan to leave these on my cabinets even after I no longer need them. You can disengage them when no longer needed and in my opinion its a benefit when selling my house in case they have children.
