The locks seem to hold the doors to my kitchen cabinets securely closed. And the magnetic keys work to unlock the locks through the thickest part of the cabinet doors (probably about 1/2 inch of solid wood). However, even with the provided template, they were not particularly easy to install. Alignment was a little more difficult than I thought it needed to be, resulting in a few extra holes on the (not visible from the outside) inside of the cabinet. I should have measured 3 times, not just twice, before drilling.

I was initially concerned about installing these, as the little key things are kinda annoying to have to grab. But if you can find a central place to store it near the doors, its good. Ive seen these before where the key rubbed away the finish, but i find the magnet is so strong that you dont even have to touch the cabinet to unlock - just get it close (about an inch or two) from the spot and you can hear the magnet unlock it. Pretty cool. We were forced to go with something like this as our cabinets are flush against each other and the drawers above, so there is no way to open them slightly and unlatch the push type with your finger. I wish the 8-pack came with a second key, as you might have to order another key. The keys alone are so expensive, I just ordered an extra 8-pack and have a few more latches just in case a few fail, or I find another spot to lock. Havent had that problem yet. Totally unexpected benefit - once open, you can push that little gray switch which unlocks them so you no longer need the key. This will be great when my son is old enough not to need them, we dont have to uninstall them and reinstall for the next kid. Also, if youre cooking, doing dishes, or something where you are in and out of the locked space but the kids arent around, you can unlock them and have easy access, then re-lock them all when youre done. Actually, turned out quite nice. The mounting is pretty easy. The lock on the door and the tang on the cabinet both install with a pair of screws. Pre-drill the holes so you dont splinter the wood, as the screws are short, but kind of thick. It comes with little stick on templates (enough for every mounting position) but I didnt use them A) because I didnt see them until I was 4 latches in, and B) because the plastic has wide spaces allowing some adjustment once installed. Get it pretty close, or use the guides for one or two, and you can probably eyeball it.

Wow, how nice to have the cabinets locked now! These magnetic locks are nice and strong...my little one cannot get into the cabinets when these locks are engaged. They dont budge at all! Its a little annoying to have to grab the magnet off the fridge to get a door open, but much less so than constantly worrying about what shes grabbing out of them. I would recommend buying an extra magnetic key, although we havent yet. My older daughter accidentally locked the key in their bathroom cabinet, but a magnetic clip we had on the fridge was strong enough to open the lock. Installation wasnt too bad. When one is finished the rest go quickly, especially if you have someone working with you. We only used a couple of the templates. Its easy to reuse them and we wanted to save a couple in case we needed them later. The only cabinet that was troublesome was the narrow one that stores baking sheets. Youll want to consider the width of the opening when planning use of the tools (finding a smaller drill for example...we had to borrow a neighbors for the one cabinet door). I love that they can be engaged or disengaged easily...just push the red/green button. When baby is napping and Im cleaning I dont have to keep reaching for the key. We havent placed these locks in the drawers yet, but Im sure that will soon be necessary as she is growing so fast! Overall these are great little locks and way more effective that those that allow the doors to open a bit (you know the ones...where you push down the plastic tab to open the door the rest of the way). No chance for pinched baby fingers with these :)

These work great once they are installed - however, I did have a heck of a time figuring out how to get the first one in. It probably took the better part of an hour and a half to get the lock and the catch lined up properly, with several incorrectly drilled pilot holes into the cabinet face as a result. I think the difficulty is that we have frameless (IKEA) cabinets, so I was installing the locking system to the side of the drawers. After installing 4 of these locks on the highest priority cabinets, I think we are good for now. The installed locks work well, except I think one of them needs a slight adjustment which I think can be achieved by nudging the lock within the wide screw opening so that it catches the catch a little better. Overall, these are great because you dont see anything on the outside of your cabinets, they can be turned off when you dont need the cabinets locked, and they seem to be sturdy.

After much research, I decided on these since for my drawers they can be turned on/off. After installing, I ran into a few problems that I had to troubleshoot, and I hope this helps others. First, after installing these according to the directions, my son was able to still open the drawers. It seems that when he pulled on the drawer, he pulled up a little which pushed the part that sticks up on the lock down, allowing it to slide open. I decided to turn the catch around so the flat side was facing the lock (photo attached). This solved the problem and he cant open the drawer, much to his dismay! Second, my drawers are the type that have the drawer face attached to a thick sided drawer. The catch part of the lock that attaches to the cabinet would bump into the inside of the drawer, not allowing it to close all the way. By turning the catch around (as I had to do for the problem above), this allowed approx. another 1/2 inch for the drawer to slide in. On another note - I have the KidCo Swivel Cabinet & Drawer Lock installed on my cabinet doors and highly recommend for the same reason (able to turn on/off) and you dont have to have a magnet. My son hasnt figured out how to open these yet and doesnt seem to be too interested, so heres hoping that lasts.

any and everyone with kids should have these, if not get them STAT! They are amazing! We have been through every kind of child proofing device, and always after a few weeks the kids figure them out, then your stuck with this thing you have to unlatch every time, and the kids are still throwing tupperware all over the kitchen! Well, not with these!! We have finally outsmarted them... for now. LOL. The great thing is that you need the magnet key to open them, and you can put it up high where the kids cant get it. It is easy enough however to where they can use it if you want them to. I also love that when you dont need them anymore, like when the kids are in bed and your putting away a lot of dishes, or doing some cooking for the week, you can unlock the device so you can open the door without the key. Then simply lock it back up after. They are a bit of an investment, but all of the other ones dont work anyways, so go for gold the first time! I only wish they would come up with a dishwasher child lock... as Im throwing my computer to the side right now to grab a knife from my 2 year old who just got into the dishwasher... ugh.

Easy to install. Comes with only one magnet of course, and the addition costs a fortune. Don’t buy the overpriced magnet, I’m using a harbor freight 2$ magnet set. Work like a charm. 5 stars for the product, minus 2 stars for greediness.

While we wish it was more affordable- its certainly more expensive than regular plastic push down locks or external straps- these are the best locks we have tried so far. We were looking for something that would work well with our media cabinet; the push down type locks allow too big an opening where our LO could still reach in and grab the cables, and the straps would look downright ugly on a living room media cabinet. These mount inside the cabinet, and while locked the cabinet is completely shut with not even a slight opening, and nothing visible from the outside. The magnetic key can be stored well away from reach so no way for LO to get in. The unlocking action is not overly strong so there is no chance of damaging the outside of the cabinet. After a few days of having this installed LO has lost interest in prying this open because he knows he wont get anywhere. The mounting was extremely easy and precise due to the excellent instructions and mounting guide/templates included ( this might be what justifies the price). Eash lock/latch combo has an individual mounting template with step by step sticking /drilling stages so everything is level and aligned. I got everything lined up on first attempt perfectly.

These are a little difficult to install (I think most saftey latches unless the stick on, but those dont work very well when toddlers are yanking on them), but once I got them all installed, they worked great! I babysit twin 12 month olds every week, so I needed to babyproof my kitchen, but I didnt want to have to deal with annoying baby locks all the time. I love that I can flip them on as needed and turn them off when the kids arent there. The keys are easy to use go through really thick cabinets. I had to add a block of wood under the lock to get them to work in my drawers that have an inset panel and the magnet works just fine. When Im not using the key, I just stick it on the bottom of the cabinets and stays magnetized to hidden screws. I have two key to make it easier to grab without always walking across the kitchen. Note:: I thought that a strong earth magnet work to open these in case I lost the key, but those arent strong enough. Only the key works. Its a good idea to have at least 2 keys.

This is a product that I hate to love. My son gets into everything (and has since he could move). The old fashioned plastic child locks did not cut it for us. He broke those in one week. We got desperate and ordered these. I say, desperate because we have a friend who also has them, and I swore I would never get them because they are such a pain...but we were desperate. These are child proof. These are the only product that I can safely say, is 100% child proof. They can be adult proof as well in the beginning, but you get used to them, and it becomes second nature to grab the magnet. The locks can be switched off from the inside if you need to do so. Ocasionally during holidays or family parties, I will do so, because people tend to get a little cranky when they cant figure out the locks. Its a great feature and option. My oldest messes with this sometimes, but hes not terribly interested in getting into the kitchen stuff anymore, so its not a big deal. I highly highly recommend these. *** if you lose the magnet, a strong one from Lowes or home depot works just as good***
