Safety 1st Magnetic Locking System (1 Key and 8 Locks)

Greater than one weekWithout a doubt this is the best cabinet door locking system for RV cabinet doors that tend to pop open from vibration or movement while travelling down the road. There is some work involved in installing them (4 holes to drill for each door assembly and screws to install) but the effort is well worth it. We had always had a problem with doors popping open due to pressure of heavier items inside pushing against the doors as we travelled on bumpy or uneven roads. This has completely eliminated the problem. You only have to lock/unlock them before or after travelling. You leave them unlocked when stationary in a campground. We only installed them on the 6 doors that were causing the problem because of the material in those cabinets. There is no visible clue that you have a lock installed when the doors are closed and they can be removed and installed on different doors later. Any strong magnet will open the doors in case you lose the original magnet. When you apply the magnet it simply moves the lock latch while you open the door and then you can manually lock the latch in the open position. When you want to re-activate the locking mechanism you just open the door and flip the switch to allow the latch to engage when you close the door. We are fulltime RVers and in the 6 months weve had them theyve worked perfectly.

> 3 dayWhile we wish it was more affordable- its certainly more expensive than regular plastic push down locks or external straps- these are the best locks we have tried so far. We were looking for something that would work well with our media cabinet; the push down type locks allow too big an opening where our LO could still reach in and grab the cables, and the straps would look downright ugly on a living room media cabinet. These mount inside the cabinet, and while locked the cabinet is completely shut with not even a slight opening, and nothing visible from the outside. The magnetic key can be stored well away from reach so no way for LO to get in. The unlocking action is not overly strong so there is no chance of damaging the outside of the cabinet. After a few days of having this installed LO has lost interest in prying this open because he knows he wont get anywhere. The mounting was extremely easy and precise due to the excellent instructions and mounting guide/templates included ( this might be what justifies the price). Eash lock/latch combo has an individual mounting template with step by step sticking /drilling stages so everything is level and aligned. I got everything lined up on first attempt perfectly.

> 3 dayThese locks are really great! I was worried if we used the cheaper plastic safety latches, our daughter could still get in between the cabinet and the door and pinch her fingers. These totally eliminate that possibility. It does take some time to install them, but I figured almost any option that would work for our kitchen (we have knob handles on our cabinets) would require installation. I also especially like that they can be turned off so if shes not in the kitchen (we also have a gate blocking our kitchen from the rest of our house) and we are cooking and need to get in and out of cabinets quickly, we can set the locks so they arent on. Our kitchen is small enough this pack did all the lower cabinets, and we have enough left over to do the cabinets in the bathroom vanity (well just have to get a separate key or just a high powered magnet as others have suggested). I have recommended these to all of our friends as we are really happy with how they work. Weve had them installed now for months and have no complaints at all!

Greater than one weekI was very paranoid about my son getting into the cabinet below our kitchen sink where we keep our cleaning supplies. After doing a lot of research, I finally decided on the Safety 1st Magnetic locks and its one of the best purchases Ive ever made. My son is a very clever two-year-old and has figured out how to unlock or break most of our safety locks in the house. Weve had these magnetic locks for over a year now and he still hasnt been able to get into the cabinet. We keep the key on a top shelf where he cant reach it, but its still easy for us to access it when we need to so we havent experienced any inconvenience at all. Installing the locks was also easy. It didnt take my husband long at all. The key also always works like a charm. I recommend getting a second key though in case you lose one.

> 3 dayWe got these tabs because the traditional tabs were not a great option for me. I am 6ft 3in so my larger fingers would need a good amount of room to unlatch a traditional tab, and because of the amount of free play required, I could then snap them too easily if I forgot and just opened the cabinet. Pros: The magnet locks install fairly easy and the provided screws are actually decent for the job. On hinged doors it is easy to setup for it to have no free play and keep the doors closed. Cons: When mounting magnet upside down (latch portion facing upwards like in picture), if the screw are not at the very top of slot in the magnet, then the latch mechanism will not spring back into place. For a pull out type drawer, this required me to use washers as a spacer for the top piece instead of just being able to side the lock portion upwards.

20-11-2024My two toddlers love to open their dresser drawers and pull out all of their neatly folded clothes. The traditional baby locks that allow you to open cabinets a couple inches wouldnt work because my kids could still reach the clothes and the wraparound locks dont work for us because my daughter knows how to get them open. These locks to the rescue. They dont allow you to open the drawer at all until unlocked which is great but this perk comes with a few downsides: 1) The key. Were always misplacing the key. Regular fridge magnets arent strong enough and without the key you cant access the contents your securing so weve had some frustrating mornings trying to find the key so I can get my kids dressed. This can obviously be rectified by having more than one key (but theyre expensive!) or not being careless with it like I apparently am. 2) Install. These wouldnt work on our dresser as is because the drawer face was extended past the actual box part of the drawer. This meant that no matter how we installed it, the magnet part of the lock wouldnt reach the piece its supposed to hold on to in order to keep the drawer shut. My husband rectified this by custom cutting pieces of wood to screw into the dresser, which we then attached the locks to. This was a time consuming process since each drawer level and size had to be different but in the end its working perfectly. 3) Finding the lock after installed. Again, really a trivial matter in the grand scheme of things but sometimes I have to slide that key back and forth on the dresser to get the right spot to unlock it. Maybe if your doing cabinets and can instal in the same lower hand corner or something this wouldnt be an issue for you but for us its annoying. Id definitely recommend these locks if the others dont work for your situation. Learn from our mistake and invest in an extra key though.

> 3 dayFinally my cabinets are truly baby proof! My son eats everything and gets into everything. Nothing in my cabinets was safe! I was finally able to move my food and bake ware off of my kitchen table and back into my cabinets because of these. We had previously tried the latches you push down to open. They took FOREVER to install just a couple and he had the cabinets open in seconds. We installed these locks on all of the cabinets in the same amount of time it took to install just two of the push down latches. The instructions are very detailed and helpful. The kit comes with guides you can stick on your cabinet frame to mark your holes. You can then transfer it to the door which makes matching up the latch and lock super easy. The latches and locks also allow for a little adjustment once you have them installed. The placement was perfect in our cabinets but we had to loosen the screws and slide the lock and latch forward or backward accordingly. We also had to do a little adjusting because some of the cabinets locked too tight and wouldnt allow the lock to release so be prepared to possibly remove a drawer to manually unlock or reach through another cabinet so you can make adjustments. I will say, keep the key out of the reach of the child youre trying to keep out of cabinets/drawers. After using these locks for about a week, my daughter left the key stuck to one of the cabinet doors. I found my son sliding the key around the cabinet trying to get it open so it doesnt take them long to pick up on what youre doing! I also recommend purchasing another key separately. I keep my key stuck to the side of the fridge to keep it from getting lost but my daughter misplaced it the other day (it ended up in the sink with the dirty dishes somehow) and having an extra one was a life saver!

> 3 dayThese locks are a bit on the expensive side, but we tried them as they got good reviews from others. They do work well -- our daughter pulls all her weight against the cabinets in our kitchen and they dont budge at all. They arent difficult to install but you have to take your time. Make sure you have the right drill bit, etc. and the template to get the locks to line up is a nice feature. Once I installed the first cabinet I got the hang of it and just kept going so it was pretty easy. Just know that the locking mechanism is pretty large, so if you were installing these in a very small or crowded cabinet they may not fit. I would say the only possible draw back is just getting used to the fact that you need the key to open the cabinets! It can slow you down in the kitchen, but if your child is not around you can unlock the locks. We keep our key on the front of the fridge, but I could easily see a piece like that going missing. They make a replacement key, though, so Im not terribly concerned about losing it. I will probably buy one more set to finish off the cabinets in our downstairs bathroom, which will give us a back-up key. Overall a nice product!

> 3 dayI installed half a dozen of these in one evening and after several weeks I can honestly say they work great and arent as hard to install as many would seem to think. First, are they secure? Weve found that they are. The only issue is that these locks cannot be installed in most pull out drawers unless theres a substantial upper lip above the drawer where the locking mechanism can be installed. We found that none of our drawers had this so we couldnt use these locks at all. The cabinet doors, however, were fine. I installed these in three different types of cabinets and they all worked fine. However, there was one one annoying issue with the cabinets - doors that were already magnetized by the manufacturer. Two sets of our cabinet doors were like this and I had to get a little creative with the installation. One of these cabinets took a good half hour or more to deal with and was quite stressful. Ive read some reviews about the screws used for these and how hard it is to screw them in. Note, these locks require pre-drilling! The people who tried to screw these in without doing that werent following the manufacturers instructions. One huge thing to remember with these locks. Do not buy the extra keys. Theyre a total ripoff. Simply purchase some strong magnets and keep them nearby. I used magnets from a game called Attraction by R&R Games. You can probably buy some magnets at your local hardware store. Either way, doesnt matter - no reason to buy the extra keys because they charge way too much for them. Overall, these are some really good locks to use with a baby in the house. I find them to be far superior to the typical plastic latch locks that are easily broken by older people in the house (ahem, teens) who dont feel like pushing down the latch to open cabinet doors..

> 3 dayWe bought these for our kitchen, but Im going back to buy more for the bathroom cabinets too. When I first opened the packaging and read the installation instructions, I was a little intimidated because it looked really complex, but the stickers they give you to help mark where the screws go make it so easy. After installing the first one, I got into a groove and the rest were easy. The locks themselves are effective. I particularly like that they dont create a gap for little fingers to get squished in. My son gives them a good workout, practically hanging off the cabinet doors to try and open them, and they have held strong. I also love that you are able to disable the lock without removing it, for times when you dont need the cabinets babyproofed (e.g. when toddler 1 is old enough not to get into cabinets, and baby 2 isnt mobile yet), or if youre doing something in the kitchen and are in and out of the cabinets all day. You can then turn them back on and your cabinets are babyproofed again. Definitely the best cabinet locks I have seen or used.
