These are a little difficult to install (I think most saftey latches unless the stick on, but those dont work very well when toddlers are yanking on them), but once I got them all installed, they worked great! I babysit twin 12 month olds every week, so I needed to babyproof my kitchen, but I didnt want to have to deal with annoying baby locks all the time. I love that I can flip them on as needed and turn them off when the kids arent there. The keys are easy to use go through really thick cabinets. I had to add a block of wood under the lock to get them to work in my drawers that have an inset panel and the magnet works just fine. When Im not using the key, I just stick it on the bottom of the cabinets and stays magnetized to hidden screws. I have two key to make it easier to grab without always walking across the kitchen. Note:: I thought that a strong earth magnet work to open these in case I lost the key, but those arent strong enough. Only the key works. Its a good idea to have at least 2 keys.

It may sound weird, but I kind of love these things. When our son started walking at 10 months he got into everything and caught his fingers in drawers several times. We installed these all over the kitchen and in the bathrooms and they work great. The downside to these is that its a pain to find the magnet every time you want to open a cabinet. We solved this problem by buying a pack of neodymium magnets and fashioning them with a little handle to make them easier to grip (or you could just buy extra magnet keys). We put one key on the sink (metal) and one on the fridge, which was just about within arms reach of every cabinet in the kitchen. I liked these so much I build a bookshelf with secret compartments that have no handles and can only be opened with magnets. If you screw the magnetic piece down to hard it could cause the lever to bind up an not release. If this happens back off on the screws a little bit until it pops out. Theyve been in for 2+ years and havent had a single issue yet.

Once installed properly, they work well. The template to line up the catch holes with the lock holes is a little tricky to use the first couple of times. If youre a little handy that shouldnt be a problem. Make sure you properly mark and pre-drill your screw holes before you install so you dont split the cabinets/drawers. Its also nice to be able to switch them to unlocked mode at any time. They have been installed on brand new cabinets and drawers without any problems. One negative: They only include one magnetic key. Otherwise, solid product. And ive used other child locks.

We bought these locks about 18 months ago because our toddler was starting to experiment with opening all our cabinet doors and getting everything out, making a mess, but we didnt want to ruin the look of our brand-new kitchen. So... I installed these just when we received them and theyve held up perfectly. The first day with them on, she tugged and tugged on the doors and had this priceless puzzled look as to why she couldnt open them. Over these past 18 months, she already has learned how to unlock them (we need to keep the key out of her reach) and they still hold up really well. This added the safety we needed to our kitchen without messing up how everything looks. Definitely would recommend it to anyone with a small child and a nice kitchen. By the way... if you ever lock your key inside the cabinet, you can open it with any other strong magnet. Also, these are magnetic (as stated), dont even try them on metal cabinets, it wont work. But they do work well with wood and fiberboard.

We installed these today. It took about 2 hours to install all 8. 6 on cabinets, 2 on drawers. The two drawers took about 30 minutes each (the bulk of the time), because it is very difficult to mount them in such tight quarters. I suppose the ease of installation will depend on your cabinetry and tools available. It seemed my drill bit was a little dull, and thus a bit harder to drill the pilot holes. We also dont have any of the fancy drills that can go around corners and tight spots, so the drawers had to be removed to place the catch, then put back to measure for the lock, then removed again to drill the lock in. The little sticky templates that come for installation do help - but they arent exact, so you will need to do some eyeballing around and maybe trial and error on the first lock until you figure out how they fit. The locks for the drawers, being mounted vertically, seem to be much more finicky to line up. At first we thought they would be unusable, but were able to find a way to mount them to work. However, Im not sure how confident I am in their holding strength. I would caution that these wont work on all cabinets. The instructions state that inset cabinetry may not work. Luckily, our inset cabinets had enough to mount. I tried to link the instruction manual from the Safety 1st site - but cant look it up there by product number. I would recommend you e-mail them: [email protected] and request an instruction manual before purchasing to ensure they will work on your cabinets. An interesting note: Placing these on my granite counter top caused the latches to unlock. I had thought the key was a magnet, but apparently any large enough piece of metal serves as an unlocker. There must be a bunch of ferrite or other metals in the granite which serves the purpose. I suppose this could be a risk if a child was holding a metal toy within an inch or so of the lock, while attempting to pull open at the same time. Im a first time parent, but with the way my 8 month old is picking things up, Id be surprised if she doesnt figure out how to open this stuff within another 4-6 months. -1 star for what could be an easier installation, especially for vertical mounted -1 star for being able to open with a large piece of metal, and not specifically a magnet as I had thought.

This is my second set that I have purchased. I had to replace a few from the other set as something happened with the mechanisms and the “thumb” part was sticking. But I do have to say, I have been in many houses and have had to get past a number of child safety locks for the job I have. And this one is pretty easy to use compared to the other ones. I know not everything works perfect all the time and some things just don’t last. But I bought this second set because I like the ease of use. And once the door is locked it takes ALOT of muscle to force it! I mean to the point of almost breaking a cabinet door. Plus my children are 4 and 7 years old and as long as I keep the key hidden/ out of reach I don’t have to worry about my kids safety.

The locks seem to hold the doors to my kitchen cabinets securely closed. And the magnetic keys work to unlock the locks through the thickest part of the cabinet doors (probably about 1/2 inch of solid wood). However, even with the provided template, they were not particularly easy to install. Alignment was a little more difficult than I thought it needed to be, resulting in a few extra holes on the (not visible from the outside) inside of the cabinet. I should have measured 3 times, not just twice, before drilling.

Perfect for keeping our toddler out of the cabinets and it keeps the irritation of the constant no or please shut that to a minimum. For anyone that has a small child that is starting to become curious about things this the one and only locking system you need to buy. It does take a little time to install theses on all your cabinets and I only installed them on a few of the major concerned areas, but I wish I would have done the whole house. Originally I thought having to have the key to open the cabinets would be a huge hassle, but after a few weeks it becomes second nature to reach for the key and open the cabinets. I do suggest guying to your local hardware store and buying a strong compact magnetic for two dollars, or you can spend nine dollars and get a duplicate key, to keep as a back up for those times when you might accidently set the key down in the cabinet before shutting it. This almost happened to me and I went out and bought the backup the very next day.

Best cabinet locks we have found--unlike latches which will eat your wood work, these locks are able to be disabled with a simple click when not needed. The one caveat to this is--of course--ensuring the locks are enabled whenever kiddos are around. If you have a forgetful family member or older child, this could be a problem. The magnet is STRONG. Even though we have a stainless refrigerator, were able to keep the key on it because it adheres to the metal beneath the stainless. Installation is involved and not a quick process, even though fairly straightforward--just takes some time. We did have some issues with placing some of the locks due to the magnets being attracted to the screws of the drawers themselves, not the lock, so locks may have to be placed in an off-center location to avoid interference. In addition, on some cabinets, due to the placement, the magnetic connection, while strong enough to unlock the mechanism, is NOT strong enough to hold the key on the cabinet face while operating it, making one-handed operation (which most parents are reliant upon) impossible. This seems to be an issue on drawer fronts more than cabinet doors. And also--if you think you only need one key, youre nuts. Theyre easy to set to the side and inconspicuous, so make sure you dont get stuck locked out of your own cabinets....

These are great. The function just as you would expect. Installation was no problem at all. The do exactly what they are made for to keep babies out. The only thing I would change about these it to make them come with more than one key. My 6 year old accidentally closed the cabinet with the key inside and I dont have a strong enough magnet to open the cabinet now. :( I guess we will be headed to the hardware store to find a strong magnet. I really like that the locks have an on off type switch. This makes it so you can keep the cabinet unlocked if you choose and lock it back when you need too. It would be great for grandparents who want to keep the kids out of certain places while they are visiting but dont need it locked all the time. Also our cabinets are kind of old and dont shut the best but these locks have had no problem working with that added difficulty. Overall great product. I would buy again. I might have to just to get another key.
