Purchased to replace the crappy Toshiba HDD that came with my computer. the constant lags and freezing were maddening. Happy to report that there are no such problems with this SSD-it boots in seconds. Install was fairly painless-EXCEPT- Samsungs proprietary software to clone your disk DOES NOT WORK WITH WINDOWS 10!!!! This despite the fact that Windows 10 has been out for at least 6 months. Its pretty pathetic that Samsungs sells a premuin product with defective unusable software. I downloaded and installed the free program Macrium Reflect--it works a dream. Use it instead of Samsung Magician.

Pro: Its working. Cons: Depending on your system and software, there are some issues. 1> Software install - minor detail - the choice to install both applications, only installed the first one. 2> Drive copy - The data migration appears to use up some system space. In my Windows 7 system, it reduced the free space in the System Partition (100 MB, at the beginning of the disk). It also renamed that partition to DATA. One of these actions created some later problems. Otherwise, this works OK, and the PC boots with the new drive. 3> Magician (drive configuration application) - This seems to turn off the System Restore and Volume Shadow Copy features of windows, for drive reliability. In my opinion, that reduces the system reliability. Also, the loss of free space in the System partition broke my backup software, with errors (incorrectly defined) about lack of drive space and sharing violations (since the System partition was no longer big enough). 4> I resolved these issues by moving the main partition and expanding the system partition - a painful process, dont do it unless you really need to do so! 5> Ive reactivated the System Restore and Volume Shadow Copy features of windows. Well see if it affects the drive life...

This is a fantastic drive, not just in terms of value for the dollar, but is very competitive in terms of absolute performance as well. The included software is quite useful as well, it includes benchmark tools that test not just the drive itself but any other drive connected your machine including flash and network drives. Beyond that it jas one-click tools to setup different modes like performance or longevity and has various metrics for keeping track of yhe status of your drive such as open space, total amount written to the drive and error reporting. As of now I was unable to test rapid (which uses a user determined amount of ram for caching) as it has not yet been updated for Windows 10, however I was told it is on the way, when I contacted samsung support. Currently the 850 EVO exists in a class of its own in the space of mainstream sata 3 drives. This and the intel 750 nvme drive really are the only two serious options for drives at their respective price brackets.

Longest-lasting SSD of this form of technology. Its tested to last longer than my lifetime, and what more can you ask of data storage? If I was building something to last for a billion years then Id be working for NASA not playing video games all day.

My son loves it. It has made his computer much faster at start-up and improved his video gaming experience.

Put this in my 2007 MacBook Pro. Worked perfectly right away. Formatted it for 1 partition and after the initial install I was left with 499.25 GB out of 500. Laptop is much faster than before. I highly recommend this SSD.

I love the Samsung SSD line. This is my second SSD purchase with Samsung, and I couldnt be happier. There is software to make sure you have the latest firmware for the SSD and will keep track of your device health. If you have the money for a premium SSD, this is the way to go.

Great starter SSD loads games and files like 100 times faster than a normal hard drive

Does what one would expect. Fast boot times. Though one should expect that about 50gb of the drive are reserved, so its more like 453gb drive, but you probably knew to expect that. All ssd can be expected to be that way.

After around 3 and a half years this is still awesome. Highly recommended.
