SENNHEISER HD 660 S - HiRes Audiophile Open Back Headphone

Great value for your money. Really good sound quality and flat response great for mixing. A little tight for my big head at first, but after a week or two they fit perfectly.

Great sound, good build quality, needs an amp to sound loud.

I bought these for gaming and they sound great with my GSX 1200!

Wanted to loved them but the sound signature is not for me. Fairly airy and precise but no bass whatsoever! Fairly flat sounding - accurate? Perhaps. But the overall sound didnt speak to me. Very lean sounding with little meat on the bone. Perhaps a great vacuum tube headphone amp can help here but I am way pass that.

They were not comfortable enough for me, I had to return them. The sound quality was good but the clamping force was off the charts. I have not had an issue with any other headphones (DT-880, MDR-1000X, B&O H6, HD-280 Pros).

The Sennheisers 660S are fantastic for classical music, big band jazz such as Count Basie and Ellington. Lady vocals are more upfront then men vocals. I really liked my 650 headphones but the 660S are phenomenal. Highly recommended from a 78 year old audiophile. The mids are excellent and the highs sound great to me and the bass is there if the recording has a little or a lot of bass. If you buy Reiners Beethoven 5 and 7 CD you will find really deep bass. Also Tchaikovsky symphony 6 especially by the Cleveland Orchestra conducted by Dohnanyi. This is a Telarc recording from 1986. I have a lot of Beethoven box sets from different conductors and you can always here bass and cellos if they are playing lightly. I started with Yamaha headphones like back in the 70s and then went to Sennheiser 555 and then to the 595 before going to the 650. After the 650 I have a DT 880 SE Beyerdynamic headphone before buying the 660S 2 weeks ago. Love them. Happy Listening. The other day I listened to Eric Clapton UNPLUGGED live CD recording and I was amazed at the improvement in sound. If you demo this CD you will never return the 660S headphones. The sound is amazing especially the piano player among the acoustic guitars. With the 650 the piano was there but not very loud....like in the background. With the 660s the piano player is upfront and with great clarity. Clarity and soundstage are excellent for 660S. It is pure delight listening to them. A Onkyo C7030 runs the 660S headphones just fine with superb sound. NO amplifier needed.

A nice tool for trying out hifi headphones without diving too deep into the audiophile price range.
