SENNHEISER HD 660 S - HiRes Audiophile Open Back Headphone

HD 660s compared to HD 820 that I also own it is one step below sound wise, but this is acceptable when priced at one fifth of the hd820.

Sounds nice with the source from my MacBook pro, but is even better with external DAC & AMP

The way these things get reviewed and talked about, youd think they were actually worth the large entry fee. I found them to have virtually zero high end. I realize they are not meant to have sparkly highs, but holy crap - it sounds like youre wearing them over a ski mask. Build quality is good, comfort is good, weight is good - I just couldnt EQ them enough to sound reasonable. Returned them immediately. And dont start with the they werent broken in crap. There was no recovering from that. So, bottom line, try before you buy.

These headphones are great. Pinpoint imaging and detail with a really black background. Very comfortable. High bass through high midrange is about as good as you can get. Very even sounding and enjoyable. Im using a Schiit Heresy, Modi 3+, Loki+ stack with Amazon HD source and the latest Oratory 1990 EQ settings.

SENNHEISER doing the nice job on over ear headphone, very enjoyable sound for long time listening. I like open back over-ear headphone for home use and in-ear headphone for outgoing now.

I personally use these for gaming, mixing, and just plain listening to music. I personally can’t stand hearing my voice with closed back headphones, so these make gaming much less distracting for me. Obviously these are expensive if you’re just gaming, but if you also care about audio quality then these are the ones for you.

This is my 2nd set of overear open back headphones and the sound quality is great. Im falling in love with tracks Ive know my whole life just because of the detail these headphones present music with. Sound stage is excellent, and depending on how you set up your play back it can produce stereo or surround sounds perfectly. Ive watched movies with complex sound effects and these headphones put me right into the movie. I was listening to a 3d sound sample to test the headphones and in one part there is someone knocking at a door. I immediately paused the track got up and checked my door. No one at my door, I played the track again only to realize it was a sound sample from the 3d sound from the track. Great headphones. Love them.

Ive only just had my headphones for an hour and while they sound amazing from all the tests I preformed, the cable that connects to each side of the heads phone, in this case the left, will cut out the left channel if i move my head. Ive reconnected and Im pretty careful, just seems like a broken wire within the cable since i just have to move it a little to get it to work again

Sounds amazing. I’ve been in the process of re ripping my whole music collection in lossless and these headphones play everything clearly and with great detail. I don’t have any other high end headphones to compare too as this is my first foray into audiophilia but I think it was an excellent first step that will keep me satisfied for many years to come.
