SENNHEISER HD 660 S - HiRes Audiophile Open Back Headphone

UPDATE 10/11/2021: Pushing this up to five stars. I used to think this headset lacked some treble but this is because I came from a VERY bright and tinny headset. After listening to many songs across many genres of music and listening to non-headset audio systems I now know that this is a phenomenal product. Thank you, Sennheiser for showing me how amazing music can sound!

With any music with some bass at medium volume cracking sounds begin to be heard, when you turn it up a little it becomes totally distorted! And Im not talking about volume at high levels, only those of us who may like to listen to our favorite songs. With the same equipment and several headphones including the Sennheiser 500 and 600 range, this had never happened to me.

I bought this after using audio technica ath-m50x for about 5 years. 660s sounds much better for me. Its kind of similar sensation I felt when I heard the sound from floor standing speakers after replacing book shelf speakers with them.

The amount of detail in these are very impressive. A punchy but balanced sound signature will keep you engaged in all kinds of music. Open-back design creates very immersive sound staging, but sound VERY easily bleeds through as a cost. For gaming, these are great headphones, just keep in mind that your mic may pick up noise if you play on high volumes. For music, I have no complaints. No discernible distortion at various volume levels after first few days of listening, and these arent even broken in yet. I highly recommend if you have not owned high-end headphones yet, and if you enjoy hi-fi audio. I also recommend a quality amp to unlock the full potential of these headphones.

Ive been using Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro 250 OHM for almost 10 years now. I bought these 660S to upgrade my sound and comfort. After an hour or so the ear cups would start to hurt my ears on the Beyerdynamic headphones. I finally took the jump as I didnt want to spend the money, but am so glad I did. They sound fantastic and I can barely tell they are on my head. I bet they get even better after some burn in time too. As noted by others, as an open back headphone there will be a lot of sound bleed in to the room. Since I live alone this is not something I care about, however, for others it might be. 5 stars, would buy again.

Im honestly shocked I grabbed these beasts on sale. 10/10 audio, just make sure to EQ cause by default it lacks lows.

The steel band on the top clamps the ear pieces too tight on my head. Who cares about sound quality if they are uncomfortable?

These sound absolutely fantastic and are very comfortable. Youll want to order the short 1m cable, though, because the included cables are loooooong. Works great with iphone, too.

I really liked the sound and would have kept these if they werent so horribly uncomfortable. Everything about the sound was great. These could have been an end game pair of cans based on sound. However, the comfort level was awful, within minutes I was getting a dull ache around my ears and 15 minutes in the discomfort was unbearable. I returned these and went with Focal Clear OGs.

Ive been using these with a portable DAC and Ive had nothing but pure pleasure. Just so... Yeah Im all out of adjectives. 500 is a lot. But for me worth every penny!
