19-11-2024Just stumbled apon this game, and after researching it I had to have it. The pocket name is fairly truthful it fits well inside my pocket But I think it would be more at home inside a backpack

Grim Trigger Strategy
> 3 dayI love, love, love this game. Ive always been into abstract strategy games (e.g. chess, Gobblet, Go, Lines of Action, Phutball <33, etc.) and studied computer science/game theory in college. The game of Hive is certainly one of my favorites. I enjoy how its a game with perfect information but youre not certain where or when that information will become relevant. I recently spent some of St. Patricks evening playing this game with a nine year old girl and she picked it up quickly and I was able to teach her the basic concepts in only a few minutes. I let her play as white without observing tournament rules and she intuitively decided to play the queen first (shes an aggressive, assertive, intelligent little lady). The game ended in a draw (SUPER DENSE HIVE) with me struggling against her aggressiveness as black. She also suggested a game that was more like checkers sans board using the hex pieces and I helped her polish that idea. Its essentially hive with the pieces flipped to just black and white using a queen and a spider to represent key pieces while using your other pieces as hoppers. My older friends and coworkers also enjoy playing this game with me and they know I carry it in my coat/hoodie pocket. Ive been in quite a few games where the tension feels much higher than in chess and have loved it win or lose. If you arent playing and teaching Hive you dont know what youre missing. Also: to iterate, flip the tiles upside down and you can make your own boardless abstract strategy game using hex tiles; the possibilities are truly limitless.

> 3 dayMy new favorite game to take when there will be downtime. I love that it doesnt take up too much space on a table and that the game can be tailored from casual to super serious depending on the time and how competitive your opponent is.

> 3 dayThis game is perfect to travel with. I used this game during my honeymoon, we played it constantly in our tent. It is a great size, can fit in a jackets pocket. The game itself isnt hard to understand. At first I was a bit scared because I had read reviews that said it was like playing chest, but turns out it is very easy to get the hang of it!

> 3 dayThis game was recommended to my family, but we had a hard time buying it because the original was so big and we were looking for things that we could easily travel with and store in a small space. We bought this one and are really happy with it. First, the pieces are plenty big for comfortable play. Second, you get TWO expansion sets with it. And third, its a great strategy game that anyone can learn, but that takes a bit of brain power to play, so its really great for many ages to play. I would say 6-7 wouldnt be too young if the kiddo was interested in games. Overall, I would recommend the pocket version over the larger version with less pieces.
