> 3 dayI like the Tomahawk for the size and its utility is restricted by ...you guessed it...its size. I mean it will not hack through redwoods or denser bones of those crazed zombies...however it will get you out of a fix real quick. It is sturdy, the hatchet surface area is small but usable..and if you miss the target ...dont worry the other side will hit!!! Great potential. Ive used it on wood about 3-5 inches in dia. and it was great for making some caveman like spears and shaping/creating/construction activities. If it ever same down to a situation of do or die...this will be a piece to have on your holster. Sharpen it to perfection ...I give it 4* due to size but this is a great buy and a useful piece. In short-add it to your collection....aim....steady yourself....practice...for those perfect zombie head shots!!!

Greater than one weekWhen I bought this I was stoked about getting it. Great color and was what I was going for in a tomahawk. However, it took over a month to get to me. Wasnt too thrilled about that. Secondly is when I was opening it I noticed that the blade is nothing like I expected. It is super small. I mean it looks like something I would hand to a dwarf to make it look big. Dimensions are as follows the tip spans 2 inches from top to bottom. The length is about 6 and a half inches (which is okay) and the spike is 3/4 of an inch. Overall not bad but I was expecting more like 3 1/2 for the blade. But for the use as a tomahawk the weight is good and properly balanced if you ask me. I love the look of it but like I said wish it was a tad bit bigger.

Greater than one weekSpecs: 2 blade edge...3 depth to handle....spike 5/8 x 1/8 taper, 2-1/4 to handle...handle 12 bottom to top of head, x 1-1/8 x 13/16 oval of black grooved poly and hole in butt for lanyard. Head attached to handle by 4 torqex screws with a re-enforcing ferrule. Impressed checkering on sides of head for non-slip pounding. Finished in black. Sheath is stiff black cordura, hollow rivets with 3 snaps on bottom...1-1/4 belt loop. Go to sogknives.com for more specs and a short vid. As much as they want to say, this isnt a campers axe. The edge is semi-hollow ground, and only 9/16 before the hole in blade, limiting the amount of resharpening. I was able to shave my arm with the factory edge. The edge angle is such that the cutting edge starts cutting at the top first when striking. The spike is an abrupt angle edge. Handle is grooved, but it is still somewhat slick. Tried this axe out on a 55gal drum; pierced the sides easily with only marring the paint, using the spike. The Mrs. performed it easily but complained the handle was a bit slick. She chopped on some red fir firewood, but it was near impossible to split the wood due to light weight. This axe is designed with more towards Urban Survival in mind. Cutting through drywall was not a problem. It did take repeated strikes for about 4 minutes to get through a wall stud. Tried the spike on a junk vehicle side window & it shattered it easily. We had a fresh, road killed deer near our place. The spike will easily pierce the skull bone with little effort. The cutting edge will penetrate all the way through hide & meat until stopped by the handle. Long swinging slashes to the ribcage severed the ribs completely. Very little dulling of edge even after repeated strikes into bone. Axe cleaned up quickly with soap & water. Wife likes this tool. Has a good use as a vehicle tool when critters reach in through the window and breaking out windows for escape. Would be useful in cutting a last ditch exit out of a room when other exits would be blocked. Would make a great defensive tool in hands that had a bit of training. The slick handle can be overcome by a nylon cord loop or wrapping the handle with para-cord. The sheath has a lot to be desired for belt carry, but the hollow rivets allow for lashing to a bailout bag. Can be attached under the dash by screws through the hollow rivets. Great cutting tool for the price, but a poor choice for a small camping axe. Get a Estwing axe for that. Only main complaint I have is that it is Made in China. Gave it a 5 Star due to the intended design of personal defense/escape tool.

> 3 dayThe only bad thing about this is the cover. I ordered a better one from the company. The cover it comes with is just a bad design that can hurt you if you dont pay attention.

> 3 dayI first bought this hawk from another source primarily as a throwing hawk and as a light survival hawk for my wifes kit. It excels as a throwing hawk and is almost indestructible Very light and easy to use and exceeds in capability for what you would expect from a tool this size. Best buy on the market for a throwing/survival hawk. I was so impressed I bought another as a gift to a friend two days after my first one arrived. Im a retired firefighter with 28 years of service and 18 years of service as a LEO in various capacities. I highly recommend this hawk as an addition to any firefighters utility belt, manys the time I could have used it and having this tool in a squad car could save many lives on emergency scenes where minor extrication is needed fast and the police arrive first, and they almost always do..

> 3 dayAs other pointed out: serious burring on the blade from shipping this right off the press that just finished cutting some other metals. the rest is ok for the money but it is basically one of those purchases that you need to do something else with it to make it worthwhile.

18-11-2024I do not give 5s easily but there one major reason. Bought this for my sons 9th birthday and he stuck this thing within a couple of throws. It is a great size for both children and adults. The learning curve in minimal. We do not land every throw but the success rate is perfect for keeping confidence and interest up. Product: The handle does feel a bit slick but that hasnt caused any issues. This handle is tough as nails though, we throw on the end grain of logs and this handle has been taking a beating. The screws which secure the head to the handle have remained locked. If they do ever loosen Id just use some thread lock to fix the problem.

> 3 dayWorks great and i love it, but it was not exactly what I expected. My main gripe is the steel. 420J? come on SOG, thats what the liners of decent folding knives are made of. Cant hold an edge worth shit, but hey, 20 bucks...I also though it would be super lightweight but it actually does have some heft to it. sure its light weigh at only 19 ounces, but still, for a guy who hasnt used a hatchet in a while and is used to mid sized 8 ounce knives, it takes some getting used to. Another thing unexpected was just HOW SMALL IT ACTUALLY IS. This thing is small, but in a way, just the right size as well. i tried it out when i got it and was able to split small logs, chop branches fairly easily, and even bust through a couple of flat rocks with the spike. I also tried hammering with it, however i will say that it was a bit awkward. This hawk is definately a capable little tool despite its size and it seems like it will hold up through even hard use. Full tang would have been nice, but whatever, i guess you cant have everything. great hawk, especially at the price point. I mean come on, 20 bucks and a lifetime warranty? Awesome. way to go SOG. Would highly recommend this product. One other thing that might be worth mentioning is that upon closer inspection, i realized that the hawk was actually slightly crooked near the head. I only found out now so i cant say whether it was from the work i was doing (maybe the hammering?) or whether it came that way The handle is perfectly straight up until it joins the head, where it starts curving to the left as if the two prongs (I guess you could say) of the handle that sandwich the steel tang are bent and therefore the steel sits at an angle. But oh well, i dont foresee any problems coming from this in the future. and if they do? Lifetime warranty baby! Hell, even if that fails for some reason, its only 20 bucks for a new one right? I would gladly buy another, these things are great. Overall an amazing product at an amazing price.

> 3 dayWith closer inspection these axes are not true SOG axes. On the bottom of the axe it says China and SOG is an American company. If this matters to you then buy directly from SOG website for an extra 8 dollars. If you dont mind buying fake SOG throwing axes then you are in luck, I landed some pretty great throws with these and they are great. Just wanted to give everyone the heads up on them being knock offs.
